Maybe I don’t have to be good, or other people’s versions of good. And maybe I don’t have to be likeable.

Season 1[]

Pip planned to enroll in Cambridge, the same role her late birth father went to. It was tense for Leanne to see how much Pip reminded her of Mr. Fitz, but she admired Pip with Victor and Josh all the more. The family would always work out their issues and differences with one another, no matter the time it took. Pip planned for her EPQ to be on solving the murder of Andie Bell, a missing student before her whose boyfriend, Sal Singh, was also killed and framed for the crime. What Pip told no one was she was one of the last people to see the couple alive, late at night at their school. Andie passed Pip and held a finger to her lips to shush her, and when Sal asked Pip where Andie was, Pip told him. Pip would repeatedly recall that night and worry if Sal was guilty and she got Andie killed, or if she didn't come forward, they'd both still alive.

Pip turns her marker board wall in her bedroom into her criminal investigation template, which she lays out her evidence on while she investigates. It upsets the people around her she pursues for answers, but she persists regardless. She originally wasn't favored by Ravi Singh, Sal's brother when she offered him muffins, upset she wasn't respecting his family's grief. She questions Naomi Ward, Cara's older sister, and Max Hastings, the local Playboy, both of them Sal's friends. They let slip he had an alibi: them. Pip questioned Hastings at his family's party, where she and Cara attended as waitresses in horrific costumes. Hastings made Pip take a shot for every question she had, in spite of her not drinking. While drunk, Dan da Silva, a local constable and the brother of Andie's friend Nat, told Pip she shouldn't nose around. When Cara found Pip spoke with Naomi, they loudly argued at the party and Pip left. She then returned to the Singh house and implored to Ravi she believed more in Sal's innocence, as he was nice to her. Ravi took Pip to Sal's old room, showing her his phone. When she read the false "confession" to Andie's murder in his texts, Pip realized what Ravi did: because it didn't match Sal's text speech, someone else wrote the text as part of the frame job. Ravi would later also describe with the toxic, racist press all over the case, the Singhs never had proper time to grieve, and the narrative of Sal's presumed guilt was generally accepted.

Pip then went to question Andie's friends, Nat da Silva and Emma Hutton. Starting with Emma at her workplace, Pip inquired about Andie's friendships and relationships. When she became pushy, Emma walked away and told Pip she refused any more communications. After Cara made Pip promise to leave Naomi out out of her investigation, she took Pip and their friends to Cara's tennis match with Nat, which Cara won. When Nat angrily went back to the women's quarters, Pip followed her for questioning, avoiding looking at her natural form and honestly telling Nat she never saw the nudes. Nat spoke of Andie's and Sal's relationships, but she refused to divulge info about the case, saying Pip seemed nice and to watch herself. Pip, already unsettled, was even more so when she recognized Dan as he drove Nat away.

While Pip was out camping with her friends for Cara's birthday, someone in a hoodie got near the tent before running off. Pip found out they slipped a printed message under her pillow: "STOP DIGGING PIPPA". Pip briefly suspected Nat or her brother Dan after recalling Nat's choice of words. With Ravi actively assisting Pip now, he used his phone to lie to Emma that he was Nat on a new number. She revealed Andie was dating a "Secret Older Guy", so Pip and Ravi lured out Nat for questioning. She revealed the friends fell out over Hastings, who leaked Nat's nudes. Pip suspects he's Secret Older Guy, so, with a disturbed greeting from his father, she lies her way into the estate and looks for evidence while Hastings showers. She found a tasteful selfie of Andie Hastings hid in a picture frame, which is when Hastings finds her. Pip inquires about the photo, which Hastings admits is how he wants to remember Andie. When Pip shows Andie and Sal falling out in texts over Andie's changed personality, Hastings reveals Andie was selling drugs and that Hastings himself was a customer. Trying to intimidate Pip, he revealed Calamity parties were one of Andie's primary grounds.

From there, even in spite of Leanne and Victor agreeing Pip should change her EPQ topic, Pip and her friends planned to crash the Calamity party and find answers. They got the time and address from Pip lying to another student, Dylan, she could change his video settings to better enhance his Tik Tok posts. The address was in a What3Words format, and the party was revealed to be in a cave in the woods. While Cara was off with her crush, Ruby, who she'd steadily start dating, Pip and Lauren saw Connor and Zach were at a spin the bottle game. Dylan was passing around some of his stash while snorting his share. When his spin landed on Pip, they went behind a tarpaulin, and Pip said she wanted a stronger cut from his dealer. He took her to Howie Bowers, and from there, as Dylan owed Bowers 60 pounds, Pip offered to pay it, so long as she asked him a question about Andie for every 20. Bowers revealed Andie kept the drugs she dealt in a stuffed rabbit, and he started threatening Pip when she asked for his alibi. After Pip hurried out, Dylan found her and, turned on by her being terrified, put his lips against her and tried to rape her, but Jesse Walker, one of Andie's father Jason's employees, pulled him off and sent him away.

Pip left shaken, leaving Cara and Lauren behind for them to briefly panic over if she was in any danger. She was visibly traumatized by that night when meeting Ravi again, and Pip told him she wanted to break into the Bell home to find the rabbit. They did so, narrowly avoiding both Andie's sister Becca and Dan when a neighbor called to report the burglary. Pip's customer list was on a piece of stationary, which was revealed to be from the prestigious Ivy House Hotel, where a guestbook revealed Andie met "Secret Older Guy" there under aliases from The Great Gatsby. Pip and Ravi pulled the fire alarm to get it, then hid in an empty room. The bathroom tile floor matched the setting of Hastings' photo of Andie, confirming the duo's suspicions before they fled.

When Pip saw Victor's name was also in the guestbook, she feared he was having an affair. It took time, but he and Leanne convinced her what happened was they took a break, as Victor's work strained their relationship, which Leanne accepted as his honest answer. Dan then made Pip get into his cruiser and go back to the Bell house. He told her he wouldn't report her, but she needed to stop investigating. He showed her a footage of Sal's emotional altercation during interrogation to shake her up into not going on.

When Pip's belief Sal was innocent was shaken, and Ravi refused to work with her finding out she was motivated by seeing Andie the night she died, Naomi found out Cara wanted her kept away. Naomi refused that option, offering Pip use Naomi's laptop leading Pip to Hastings' Instagram under the handle Tangotits. It showed a photo Sal took of the friends at the time Andie was murdered, giving him an alibi. Pip angrily confronted Naomi at her high school reunion, and she revealed Hastings ran a man off the road accidentally while he drove drunk. Hastings called someone to cover up the accident and made a pact with his friends to tell no one. They received a blackmailing letter to wipe Sal's alibi, or the accident would be revealed.

Hastings, horrified he missed a photo, was told by Naomi she deliberately kept it from him, wanting to courage to tell the truth. Hastings furiously threatened Pip he'd take Naomi down with him if she told the police, but Pip did tell Cara, promising to find the truth without revealing the accident. Pip received more threats in texts the night before Josh's birthday, so she released a video saying she had evidence on Andie's murder she'd publish the next day. The smaller then told her if she didn't drop the case, someone she loved would pay. She realized Barney was let out from the backyard, and shortly after that, he was killed by a hit-and-run driver, even after Pip posted a retraction video. In spite of her grief, she had an inkling that Dan, the first officer on scene of the accident, was who covered up the crime. Dan admitted only to that and to sleeping with Andie when she was still underage, but he wasn't the stalker or killer.

When Naomi called Pip on the number associated with the stalker, she revealed Elliot hid the phone behind a brick in the wall. With Elliot confirmed as the stalker, Pip dropped her phone in his car to track him, which led to the Ward family's former home. Pip went there and found a homeless woman named Isla who Elliot was holding captive. Elliot, denying guilt, admitted he also slept with Andie, as well as shoved her back into a countertop when she blackmailed him for money to elope with Sal, but she walked away alive. Isla was kidnapped as a replacement for Andie, presumably to rape in captivity, and Isla told Pip Elliot confessed to murdering Sal and staging it as a suicide. Ravi had called the police, so Elliot was arrested and Pip and Isla rescued.

Pip was heartbroken Ravi was leaving to make a life for himself away from the village, when when she realized Elliot had an alibi for killing Barney. She spoke with Elliot, who blamed his crimes on a "dark seed" he believed everyone, even Pip, had just to keep his denial. He, however, did admit he killed Sal after reading Naomi's diary and read about the accident. Needing Sal as a patsy, he used the accident as blackmail so Sal had no alibi, then wrote the false confession and smothered him. He said he suspected Jason due to his controlling nature, so Pip went looking for his blue van he drove that night. She did at his junkyard, but Jesse, who caught here there while she was working, told Pip he had an alibi and that Becca was roofied and raped at a Calamity party. Pip knew Andie supplied the Rohypnol, so when she read the customer was "TT", she knew Hastings was the rapist from the abbreviation being his Instagram handle. She called him in a furious confrontation, but he snarked he had consent, so she hung up, the call being recorded.

When Pip looked back at Andie's van, she realized Andie wasn't driving and was already dead. She realized Becca killed her and confronted her. Becca, mentioning she was disgusted Dylan wanted to rape Pip like Hastings raped Becca, confessed Andie stumbled back to the house, and when Becca said she wanted to report Hastings, Andie, already dizzied from her wound from Elliot, told her not to, as Andie supplied the roofie. Becca grew furious and threw Andie for the second time that night, killing her with a fatal blow. She then sank Andie to the bottom of a well in the tunnels where the latest Calamity happened. Becca drugged Pip with some of the Rohypnol she stole before Pip and Ravi found it, and she was prepared to kill Pip at the same site. However, Ravi and Cara tracked her phone and stopped Becca, who was arrested right after.

Pip successfully completed her EPQ, and her romance with Ravi blossomed into the two of them kissing at the end of the series.
