History[]
Past[]
More than twenty years before the start of the franchise, Po's mother lived in the panda village not far from the city of Gongmen City, with her husband Li Shan and their son Po who had recently given birth and lived a life happy with them and other pandas, including their nephews Dim and Sum.
However, their happiness didn't last long, destroyed forever when Lord Shen with his army of wolves came to slaughter the entire village to change the prophecy that Soothsayer had foretold to the Shen's Parents worried about their son, who would be defeated by a black and white warrior. Li managed to fend off the wolves to give his wife and the other pandas time to save themselves and she took Po in her arms still a baby and ran away to save him.
She ran through the woods hoping to save her and the baby, but when the wolves caught her, almost killing her, she knew how it would end, so managing to lose them temporarily, she found a boat left temporarily unattended carrying crates of vegetables. Selling this as the only chance to save her only child, her mother hid her Po in the box of radishes. Then Po start to cry, but his mother calms him down for a bit so she kissed him on his head one last time before tearfully saying goodbye leaving him there, hoping he'll be safe. After that tearfully looking at the son she was leaving, she returned to the woods and lured the wolves and Shen so that they start chasing her again and they didn't find her Po (presumably she drove them out of the woods) and killed her offscreen.
Kung Fu Panda 2[]
It wasn't until over twenty years after Po while battling Shen's wolves stealing metal from Peace Valley that he got back a flashback of his mother leaving him, seeing a Boss Wolf symbol on his shoulder. This caused Po have psychological disturbances, nightmares and devastating visions of his past and who he was. However, he finally manages to find out about his past and his mother's sacrifice by finding the inner peace that Shifu told them, not letting a horrible past and his parents' death determine who he was. Po's mother was avenged When Shen was killed in the final battle of Gongmen City.
Kung Fu Panda 3[]
Her sacrifice is mentioned by Li, where her last moments are briefly seen once again in flashback form, in which Shen and his soldiers pursue her.
