Pongo is the main protagonist in Stephen Herek's live-action remake of 101 Dalmatians. And he plays a presumably posthumous overarching role as a supporting character in the film’s sequel 102 Dalmatians. One major difference is that he does not speak as he lacks sentience throughout the movie and is able to bark and do little few actions than the original.

He is based upon the original Pongo in One Hundred And One Dalmatians novel by Dodie Smith and Disney's film adaptation on the 1961 film. However, there are noticeable changes that this Pongo in Stephen Herek's version that seperates themselves from the original while keeping the sympathetic aspects like from the original.

Appearance[]

Pongo is a grown male Dalmatian much like with the original version written by Dodie Smith and the Disney 1961 animated film of Pongo inheriting black spots that are placed a bit more around different area's of the body as opposed to the original. Along with wearing a dark collar that is blue like Perdita in the original, as the one in the Live-Action has a red one instead.

Biography[]

Pongo wakes up to start the shower for his owner, Roger, and gets him up, starts the coffee machine, activates his owner's computer and another machine that opens a door. Later, he was with Roger at the park when he reads a newspaper on the death of the London Zoo's Siberian tiger Sue Ling.

After several dogs pass by, Roger hopes to make a sale in the game business. After the pitch was rejected, Pongo witnesses Perdita walk with her owner Anita in the park and is enamored with her as she passes by. As Roger got on the bike, he rushed after Perdita while Roger held his leash.

This startled Roger as he found himself being pulled through crowds of people, when Pongo's leash broke, Roger ends up crashing into a lake. Pongo meets Anita who was playing fetch with Perdita. This is where Roger crosses paths with Anita while trying to find his dog.

After seeing Pongo and Perdita demonstrate fondness to each other, Roger and Anita part ways when Perdita starts to run towards Pongo, it results in Anita crashing into the lake, leading to Roger tending to her at his home where they find that their dogs are in love, Anita and Roger decide to marry to allow their dogs to be together.

Later Pongo was watching as Roger was making a new game when Nanny discovers Pongo and Perdita will have pups. When Cruella comes over to Roger's home, Pongo and Perdita react with hostility towards her in their presence before Roger escorts them upstairs.

After Cruella leaves, Pongo was able to calm down when that it was discovered that the fifteen pups were finally born without knowing that one of Cruella's goons spied on them. When one, Lucky, seemingly dies, Roger and Pongo examine it when Pongo discovers it was still alive.

When Cruella arrives, Pongo again reacts with hostility and Roger refuses to have the pups sold to her, leading to her firing Anita and driving off in a rage. Later, the puppies were given their collars when they gain their spots.

While Anita and Roger were gone with their dogs, Horace and Jasper make their way to their home to steal the pups. When Pongo and Perdita hear a bulldog that witnessed the kidnapping bark, they rush home to witness the kidnapping.

Later, Pongo barks to try and find where his pups are at. This leads to other dogs passing this "message" across to try and locate the missing pups. Later in the morning, one of the dogs arrives at Roger's home so that Pongo and Perdita can make their journey to find their kidnapped pups with dogs relaying them along the way.

A bird that was present with one of the dogs also aided them in trying to find the pups. Once a pack of raccoons distracts Horace and Jasper by messing around in their truck, Perdita and Pongo, with the aid of two other dogs proceed to save their puppies and a lot of others kidnapped by Cruella.

After the puppies were saved, a crow guides Pongo and Perdita into the farm where the puppies are being kept safe from Cruella and her cronies. When Cruella is seeking out the escaped puppies, the crow alerts the dogs to her presence and steals her hat.

After Cruella was tricked into pulling the tail of a pig, she ends up under its body while the dogs escape. Following the arrest of Cruella and her men, the police were able to find Perdita and Pongo as well as the ninety-nine pups and return them all to Anita and Roger who opt to get a bigger home so that the pups can have a place to live.

Later, Pongo and Perdita watch with the pups as a game about pups fleeing from Cruella was made and was approved. A year later, the couple moves to a new mansion with the 101 dalmations and their (Roger and Anita's) new baby.
