Pope Heyward is one of the tritagonists (alongside Cleo and Kiara) of the Netflix TV Show Outer Banks.
He is a Pudge, considered the genius of the team, as John B calls him, “the brains on the operation”. He is adventurous, but he is also the most sophisticated, cautious and calm of the team, he can be a real pacifist and is the one who usually calms down the others of the group and puts an end to the fights. Pope is also paranoid because he always thinks the worst and tries to inform his friends about any dangers, often not being listened to on this.
He has a scholarship up for grabs to go away from the Outer Banks and go to a college to be considered someone by his father.
He is portrayed by Jonathan Daviss.
Personality[]
Pope is mainly a very altruistic boy, caring and also very protective towards his family and friends. He doesn't like violence very much and hates doing illegal things, which would mean ending up in prison and he would also prefer safer things and he doesn't like revenge since like JJ he didn't want to sabotage a boat to get revenge on Barry who had made them bleed with a golf club. He shows that he doesn't like taking revenge and or blackmailing others, he also loves to respect the rules so as not to get into trouble, but this is what often happens to the Pudges, and this irritates him a lot and he worries about too many things sometimes, which makes him paranoid.
Pope is also the voice of reason for the Pogues, his loyalty towards his friends often leads him to calm the others down when they argue and are agitated. Pope is often pressured and stressed because he works hard and does his best to get into a medical school and for this reason he puts a lot of effort into his studies.
John B describes him as a bit strange and eccentric, but also the most smart he knows.
Pope is also very responsible, he takes his responsibilities more seriously than the other Pudges, and he is also determined to make his father proud of him because he often disappoints him (but this is because their relationship is quite difficult), and sometimes he is unsure of what he really wants.
Although he does not like violence, when he is attacked to a certain extent, he can become very aggressive and violent when he gets angry.
Background[]
Pope was born in OBX in the poorest part of town on the island where his father, Bobby Heyward, considered by all to be a legend on the island because he can provide anything to anyone on the island, runs a fish shop called Heywards, a strange coincidence with the surname.
History[]
Season 1[]
Pope feels that John B needs him to find the Royal Merchant and so he and the other Pogues help him, meanwhile in the act of doing this, Pope begins to have feelings for Kiara, but at the end of the season the feelings are not reciprocated. During the season John B gets into trouble with Sarah who wants to join the Pogues group, but it is Kiara who does not want her, so John B, Pope and JJ leave them on a broken boat in the middle of the river to successfully calm them down.
They find gold but are then in crisis with the police.
When JJ finds a gun, Pope is strongly against it and wants him to get rid of it, even though he often manages to save others with it. When Pope is attacked by Barry and Topper with a golf club, JJ decides that they will make him pay by sinking Barry's boat, even if Popper is reluctant and then is framed almost arrested for a theft that JJ had committed and the latter turns himself in seeing Popper hostage, much to his surprise. Then luckily he is released.
Pope is almost ready for an interview to enter a college, but knowing that they are in crisis because Ward Cameron is a murderer thief who stole it he runs away ruining everything, but saving Sarah and shortly after Peterkin is killed by Rafe and Ward falsely accuses John B and the whole island is now looking for him, but Pope and the others manage to make him and Sarah escape on a boat of JJ and then when they end up in a storm everyone believes them dead with great sadness of Pope, Kiara and JJ.
Season 2[]
Kie, JJ and Pope carve a heart on a tree in honor of John B, who they assume died in the storm, but then with an addressed photo they discover to their joy that he and Sarah are alive and are in the Bahamas, and they try to reach them. Kie and Pope write "murderer" on Ward's estate and Kie even calls Rafe a Cop murderer.
Pope during the season discovers that he is related to Denmark Tanny, the slave who escaped when the Royal Merchant sank and brought the gold to shore, this makes Pope reluctant to search for the gold, but he stays on the adventure anyway where he technically starts a romantic relationship with Kiara but then they break up and then he meets Cleo Anderson, a girl he falls in love with, and joins the group to find the cross of Santo Domingo. In the end they all end up shipwrecked on a deserted island.
