Poppy is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Sarah Hatoff) of the Cat Kid Comic Club book series, a spin-off to the Dog Man franchise.
She is a blue baby frog that tries her very best to cheer up whoever needs it.
Personality[]
Whilist as a toddler tadpole, Poppy had a secretive evil side after accidentally being overdosed with Supa Brain Dots. However, she along with the rest of her twenty-two siblings redeem themselves and take themselves out of the trance of being the evilest tadpoles ever.
Ever since her mind was wiped from the terrifying ordeal she and the rest of her siblings made in Dog Man: Fetch-22, she has been a loving, kind baby frog who has only one bad thing out of her personality: her obsession with death. However, this is not dark in anyway and she just thinks of death as a simple thing that could easily be used upon imagination to get themselves over with it, as shown in her comics.
Appearance[]
She resembles a blue frog with eyelashes and black freckles.
History[]
Dog Man: Fetch-22[]
She serves as an unseen secondary antagonist, as well as the rest of her siblings, who all imprinted the Fair Fairy as their mother and wrecked havoc because of it. However, along with her siblings, she was manipulated to get inside a lake where Zuzu poured some medicine inside the lake that caused them to get rid of their anger and change their personalities to ruthless tadpoles to adorable baby frogs.
Dog Man: Grime and Punishment[]
She serves as a minor character who helps defeat Munchy the Lunch Bag after he kidnapped Flippy the Fish, her newly adoptive father, by drawing what she liked on Munchy, scaring him away in embarrassment, never to be seen again.
Cat Kid Comic Club[]
The first Cat Kid Comic Club is the first book to show Poppy's true importance when she shows everyone her new comic: The Cute, Little, Fluffy, Cloud of Death. Her comic was about a cute, little, dead cloud who cried rain after the sun bullied her. However, random pedestrians enjoy the rain and befriend the cloud, before being rudely interrupted by the sun, who insults them all before setting and causing the friendly moon and stars to come out, making everyone happy.
When Poppy finished showing the book to her father, he speaks with Poppy quietly, asking if she was depressed, anxious, or bullied. Poppy states that she didn't feel any of those feelings, which relieves Flippy, before he asks why Poppy made the comic, to which Poppy exclaims that she just loved cute dead stuff. She then got an award for the weirdest comic afterwards.
She later appears briefly in the show-in-tell party handing out cookies that resembled the Cute, Little, Fluffy, Cloud of Death. She then comes and hugs her father with the rest of her siblings.
Cat Kid Comic Club: Perspectives[]
In the sequel Cat Kid Comic Club, she is seen drawing with the rest of her siblings the lessons given to them.
Later, Poppy shares out the sequel (or prequel) to the Cute, Little, Fluffy, Cloud of Death, titled Skelopup. The story was about an old dog that died and was sent up to Heaven, where he met the Cute, Little, Fluffy, Cloud of Death, who takes them to Deadville, a park in Heaven. There, the old dog, given the alias of Skelopup, played and played, until one day, she met a little ghost girl being sad. Apparently, her really old cat had 'died' again and became a mortal again, saddening the little ghost girl. Soon, the two became friends and started to not feel sad anymore.
After reading out loud the comic, Poppy was asked if that was what happened when people died, to which she responds by saying that she didn't know and that she was just using her imagination.
Later in the book, Poppy gives the idea to the other baby frogs to show out their stories to cheer up their father, inspired by the time she was cheered up listening to stories after her pet beetle died.
Cat Kid Comic Club: On Purpose[]
In the third Cat Kid Comic Club book, she has a much bigger importance to the story than her other appearances.
She appears in this book trying to cheer up her sister Naomi after she hears that her comic book would not get published. She continues this for a bit, telling Naomi that their brother Melvin had cried because of her absence to the club. The conversation then ended after Naomi said that she wanted to tell everyone that might've been offended by her comic, to which Poppy does for her.
Later in the story, Poppy shows the threequel to the Cute, Little, Fluffy, Cloud of Death, called Skelopup and the Happy Game.
The book was about the little ghost girl sad about her formerly-dead-now-alive old cat, and nowhere Skelopup, the little ghost girl, and a friend of their's named Skeleton Boy went, the ghost girl was sad. However, Skelopup got an idea and explained to the others that for thirty minutes, they would be or pretend to be happy, and for the next thirty minutes, they could be sad. The ghost girl did not want to lose the game, so she pretended to be happy, and, after a while, she wasn't pretending. However, the game came to a halt after Skelopup found the formerly-dead-now-alive old cat's memory book, to which the ghost girl thought that it was great to have the formerly-dead-now-alive old cat, despite how sad his loss was. Then, the three went to the formerly-dead-now-alive old cat's favorite park, that was now littered everywhere, so they picked up all the trash. Afterwards, thirty minutes had ended, and it was okay to be sad again. However, the three friends were too sleepy to be sad, and so they slept instead.
After Poppy showed her comic, Melvin, who was wanted to be cheered up after the loss of Naomi, states that he had an idea after reading the comic and takes her and another comic, Baby Frog Squad, and copied them to send to the publisher to see if they were going to be published.
However, when the email came about the publisher's opinion on Skelopup and the Happy Game, there was not any good news to the frogs at all, as the publisher believed that the fact that everything was dead was disturbing. Melvin then tells Poppy the idea to make it normal instead of it being dead, which makes Poppy cry about how she didn't want to be normal and she quits the club, going to the Time Out Rock along with Naomi.
At the Time Out Rock, Poppy talks to Naomi, which the latter tells her it's okay to be unique, and even states that if Naomi was as awesome as Poppy, she wouldn't change anything, motivating Poppy to rejoin the club.
Cat Kid Comic Club: Collaborations[]
In the fourth Cat Kid Comic Club book, Poppy has the most involvement in the story than she has in any book so far.
After every frog was collected money in advance (since the Baby Frog Squad was going to become published), Flippy asks the baby frogs if they could each donate five dollars to a shelter in Bedford Falls. However, while everybody did that, Poppy gave Flippy every bit of her money, saying that she already had books and toys and a warm bed, unlike the kids in Bedford Falls who had nothing.
However, everybody realized how nice this action was and decide to do it themselves, making Flippy almost cry, before listening to a story created by frogs named Billie, Corky, and Pink.
When Melvin and Naomi get back from repairing Flippy's phone (as they had destroyed it in the previous book), they learn about the good deed everyone did and feel regret for using all of their money for candy while everyone else donated it to a shelter. However, Poppy finds out and talks to them about what their purpose was, and even shows them that her purpose was to make the world a better place everyday by encouraging others and shows it by throwing a pebble into the lake nearby to them, and explaining that because of the little pebble, the lake would never be the same again. Because of it, Melvin and Naomi find out their purpose.
Cat Kid Comic Club: Influencers[]
In the fifth and so far most recent Cat Kid Comic Club book, Poppy has a major influence in the story, even if it hasn't been the most importance she's had in a book so far.
Poppy is first seen working on her comic Two Birds.
She is later seen towards the end of the book during the night showing her father her finished comic of Two Birds, and then went back into her room crying after hearing from her father that she should've been helping her siblings with Baby Frog Squad instead.
However, Flippy quickly feels bad for yelling at his adoptive daughter and reads the comic she made.
It was about two birds who had just been hatched, the blue one looking up, and the red one looking down. The blue bird sang while the red bird roared. The blue bird showed thanks while the red bird cried for more. The two birds then tried to learn to fly, but end up failing. The red bird yells and yells more, while the blue bird says to try again. After a while, the two birds learned how to fly. While flying, the red bird found mad crowds, yet the blue bird looked up and saw clouds. The red bird found mud, trash, and cars, yet the blue bird found bright stars. One day it rained and the red bird complained, yet the blue bird thanks the sky for rain. Another day the birds made nests, the blue bird happy home, the red bird still looking down. Soon, a storm brew, so the birds went to a hiding place, even though their homes were blown away. After the storm, the red bird yelled and swore at the sky, yet the blue bird states that everyone was safe, so it was the best day ever. Years later, the birds became too old to fly. The red bird felt remorse for her actions, looking down her entire life, and with her last words, she asked why. The blue bird was also dying, but unlike her friend, she felt grateful for the life she was given, and so her final word was thanks.
After reading the comic, Flippy wakes up a sad Poppy and brings her to some water while talking to her about how he felt as though he was always yelling at his children and wished to be more like the blue bird in the story, making everyone happy.
The following day, due to Poppy's inspiration comic, Flippy uncancells the Cat Kid Comic Club (as it was shut down by him because of all of the lolly-gaggin').
Dog Man: The Scarlet Shedder[]
Out of all of Poppy's appearances, she makes the least importance in the twelfth Dog Man book, only serving as a wedding guest to Chief and Genie S. Lady's wedding.
