Porunga (ポルンガ, Porunga?) is a supporting character in the Dragon Ball franchise. He is an Eternal Dragon created by Guru to grant any wish to anyone who summons him using the Namekian Dragon Balls.
He is voiced by late Junpei Takiguchi, Masaharu Satō, late Daisuke Gōri and Ryūzaburō Ōtomo in Japanese, Richard Newman in the Ocean Group dubs and Dale Kelly and Christopher R. Sabat in the Funimation dub.
Biography[]
At some point of his life, Guru created Porunga to be the Eternal Dragon of Namek. Unlike Shenron he is capable to grant three wishes per summon and reviving the same person anytime, but he is only capable to revive one person per wish. During the Frieza Saga, the Z-Fighters goes to Namek to find the Namekian Dragon Balls to summon Porunga and revive the heroes killed during the Attack of the Saiyans. But Frieza is there too to use the Dragon Balls to gain immortality while a now defected Vegeta is there for the same. When Porunga is summoned, he grants Gohan wish of reviving Piccolo, reviving Kami and Shenron at the same time, then he wishes for teleporting Piccolo to Namek to help them in their battle. However, before granting the third wish Porunga dies after Guru's death. However after Shenron revives all the Namekians, Porunga revives too. Then Dende uses the last wish to teleport everyone except Goku and Frieza to the Earth before the planet explodes, which he does. Before his death, Guru gives the custody of the Namekian Dragon Balls to Moori, becoming Porunga's secon creator. After some time, Porunga is summoned two times to revive Krillin, Yamcha, Tenshinhan and Chaozu and teleport the Namekians to a new planet named New Namek.
During the Majin Buu Saga. Porunga is summoned by Dende to restore the planet Earth that was destroyed by Kid Buu, since Moori used his power to revive multiple people with the same wish, Porunga revives all the Earthlings. Then Dende wishes to restore all of Goku's energy so he can defeat Kid Buu and the last wish was of restoring North Kaio's planet.
In Dragon Ball Super, Porunga is summoned to separate Kibito Kai and Shin from their fusion. Sometime later he is summoned to revive Piccolo, who was killed by Fieza. In the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga Moori turns Esca into the new master of the Namekian Dragon Balls. When Porunga is summoned, he grants Moro's wish of restoring his planets and free's all the galactic prisoners. After Moro's defeat, Porunga revives all the victims of Moro and restores the planets that he destroyed.
In Dragon Ball GT, Porunga is summoned to restore the Earth, that was destroyed by the use of the Black-Star Dragon Balls.
