A man is nothing without the gods!
~ Poseidon in The Odyssey.

Poseidon is the god of the sea, earthquakes and horses in Greek mythology and a major figure of ancient mythology. He is the son of Cronos and Rhea, and the brother of Hades, Zeus, Hera, Hestia, and Chiron.

Biography

Description

Poseidon is the god of the seas, earthquakes and horses, and although he is one of the twelve Olympians, he rarely leaves his underwater palace, just like his brother Hades.

Titanomachy

Poseidon is the son of the titans Cronus and Rhea, and like all his siblings, was eaten whole to prevent them from overthrowing their father. However, Poseidon's youngest brother, Zeus, was saved, and later tricked Cronus into vomiting up his siblings. Poseidon rallied with Zeus and his siblings, beginning the war against the titans called the Titanomahcy. The war lasted for ten years, but they succeeded in overthrowing the titans, throwing them into the deepest pits of Tartarus.

Poseidon, Zeus, and Hades drew lots to see who would rule each of Cronus' kingdoms, the sky, the seas, and the underworld. Zeus choice the sky, Poseidon was given the seas, and Hades was given the underworld. Poseidon was angered because Zeus claimed the heavens, seeing the handout of the seas as patronizing. His jealousy would lead him to clash with Zeus, and attempt to out due him in everything.

Powers and Abilities

Immortality: Like any god, Poseidon is immortal and insensitive to aging.

Shapeshifting: Like any god, Poseidon can change his appearance at will.

Hydrokinesis: As god of the seas, Poseidon has full control over the seas and water in all its forms. It can cause gigantic waves, tsunamis, storms, typhoons and so on.

  • Cryokinesis: Poseidon can control the form derived from water, ice, at will.

Aerokinesis (limited): Poseidon can control the air in a limited way to accompany his storms.

Geokinesis (limited): Poseidon has some control over the land, but less powerful than his older brother Hades or his grandmother Gaia. He has demonstrated his ability to cause earthquakes and even turn an entire boat into stone.

Equidae control: As creators of equidae, Poseidon can totally control these kinds of animals such as horses or zebras.

Trivia

  • Poseidon's symbols/attributes are Trident's, Horses, Dolphin's, Turquoise's, Ash Trees, and the White Pine Tree.
