~ Power Pooch's first words to Bad Cat in "Cat Scratch Fervor"
(Power Pooch): Well fell-onious feline! Had enough!? I thought so! Hahaha!! As for you small rodent. Count yourself lucky to have been helped by: POWER POOCH!! My job is through!! Away little buddy, and don't forget the shoe!
(Little Buddy: Right here PP!)
~ Power Pooch in "Cat Scratch Fervor"
(Power Pooch): Little Buddy, did you hear that stalwart officer of the law?
(Little Buddy: Yeah! He told Power Pooch to stay away)
(Power Pooch): That's cold 'ol chum, he's begging for the help of... POWEEER! POOCH! The THUNDER of the absolutely! 100%! NOT guilty!
(Little Buddy: Oh! Ready to go PP?)
(Power Pooch): ALL said Little Buddy!
~ Power Pooch after a police officer to not contribute to a non-serious task in "Bank You Very Much"

Power Pooch is the titular main protagonist of the cartoon series of the same name and was once an ordinary dog until a shoe, called the Power Slipper, that fell from the sky by a superhero flying in space and caused him to evolve into the anthropomorphic, mutated, powerful hero that he is today by licking it, albeit an incompetent one. Along with his humble yet faithful cat sidekick, Little Buddy, Power Pooch fights the forces of evil, such as Doctor Hydrant and his henchman, Boney.

He was voiced by Phil Hayes, best known for voicing General Hawk and Scratch.

Personality[]

He tends to be very dim-witted, immature, clumsy and a bumbling goofball who'd spout out a bunch of heroic mumbo-jumbo when he sees crime of any sort, but he can also show moments of cunning and fighting prowess when he needs to, and is a firm believer in truth and justice, albeit he delivers it in a somewhat unorthodox manner.

However, he can become easily sad and emotional if he hurts those that he cares for, from thinking that he killed his buddy and went on an emotional drama in the episode Power Pooch No More, to even trying to bring back a mummy back to life and failing at it in the episode Wrapped Up In His Work.

Despite having the intent to stop crime, he tends to be very arrogant and thinks he sees all (which makes him too overconfident in himself and thinks he did the hero work when he usually isn't). Which causes him to be either distracted, act too moralistic, blissfully ignores what actually happened when he thinks he has solved a problem as if he knows better than others, acts sadistic towards those he considers "antagonists", has shown to be cowardly without superior strength or confidence, and has subpar problem-solving skills when it comes to stopping crime as a result since Power Pooch's stupidity and arrogance can sometimes embarrass himself, cause havoc or even aid the villains unwittingly unless his sidekick helps him or other people like the police force actually helping him indirectly stop the criminals he intended to stop.

Appearance[]

Power Pooch in his regular form is a light yellow furred, skinny canine with a peachy snout. In his superpowered form, his chest is bloated but still having skinny limbs and a hench look.

Powers and Skills[]

Many of his superpowers come from licking the shoe, anyone licking the shoe can allow them to:

  • Flight: Can fly wherever he wants to.
  • Super Strength: Solely from biting his shoe even, allows to get strong and muscle enough to carry any heavy object at will. As well as being strong enough to stop a bus, or shoving vehicles into anything, even cats!
  • Size enlargement: He can get large and stronger from biting his shoe, however, getting his foot stepped on and pulling a plug from his belly will deflate him.
  • Laser vision: Interestingly, he gets this from getting two double A batteries being inserted into his canal once he screws off his nose from his face like a light bulb as seen in "Wrapped Up In His Work".

Quotes[]

Now this is a job, for Power Pooch!
~ Power Pooch.
Well, that's! Showbiz!
~ Power Pooch after being punched and sent flying by a superheroine in "That's Shoe-Biz!"
The FIEND!! He's replaced the steroid with a exact duplicate city filled with MILLIONS of robot citizens!! *Ding!* I wonder how robo hot dogs taste...
~ Power Pooch.

Trivia[]

  • He is a stand-in for the show's lighthearted version of Underdog, especially since Power Pooch is basically Superman as a dog.
  • In fact, his characterization is inspired by Underdog and Earthworm Jim.
  • How he got his powers and personality is similar to Earthworm Jim, as Power Pooch was a regular dog who got his powers and anthropomorphism from a powered object that fell from the sky in nearly the same way that Earthworm Jim got his superpowers and boisterous persona by a powered space suit that also fell from the sky.
  • His incompetence and low intelligence rivals Hong Kong Phooey, especially since they're both dogs who often do stupid things to save the day and solve a problem, as they generally rely on dumb luck to win or succeed at anything, and they both have feline sidekicks who do a better job at saving the day despite being considered "sidekicks".
  • His mother's name is Daisy.
