The Primal Zerg are the supporting characters in the Starcraft franchise. Unlike the regular zerg, they are sometimes friendly and kind to Kerrigan, as well as Zurvan and Dehaka.

History[]

Ancient History[]

Before the events of the first game, the xel'naga created the zerg through the form of 'essence'. They emerged from the first Spawning Pool in Zerus. The majority of the zerg subspecies originated in planet Zerus. The primal zerg possesses psychic and psychological traits from the zerg swarm. The first zerg were once the most benevolent species of the Starcraft universe until they need to fight to evovle through cannibilizing and eating other zerg species. The more they consume, the stronger they become, making them evolve into a more and vicious creatures.

They come to fight in order to collect essence, gaining strength and proficiency, that grow from arms to head, and so on. Each essence they consumed, they become stronger and their strains have assimilated with the other.

However, Amon wanted the zerg so that he can use it against their former breathren of the xel'naga. He reformed the primal zerg to become aggressive. Yet, many Zerg have been made through the Overmind's control. This had caused Zurvan's weariness as a result. The majority of which have fallen under Amon's influence.

Pre-Second Great War[]

Prior to the events of the Second Great War, many rival primal packs would assume the role of becoming the supreme leader of Zerus. One of which is Brakk, whom he challenged Kerrigan for the control of awakening the Ancient One. Once she collected enough essence, Kerrigan became the new Queen of Blades (in her primal form), challenging and killing the other primals. With the last of the primals slained, Zurvan turned against Kerrigan despite her prowess and superiority. Bravely, Kerrigan managed to defeat Zurvan and the rest of the pack joined the swarm, alongside Dehaka. She promised Dehaka that he will gather his forces to find more essence in the future.

Second Great War[]

Both Dehaka and Kerrigan boarded the leviathan to begin the siege of Augustgrad. During the battle at Korhal, the primals have joined in the cause to kill most of the men. Arcturus Mengsk used his final trick on his sleeve - the Psi Destroyer which can kill the zerg quickly, but the primals are immune to this contraption. After withstanding the third activation of the Psi Destroyer, Kerrigan and Dehaka successfully destroyed it. The rest of the zerg, along with the infested and the pack begin the final assault on Korhal's palace. However, the palace has been heavily guarded by Mengsk's imperial guard. Kerrigan destroyed the entrenchments to allow his pack to invade the defending forces of the Dominion. The palace has been breached and Kerrigan finally kills Mengsk with her newfound power. Raynor states whether he can meet her in the future before her swarm, along with her primals starts to depart to the leviathan.

End War[]

Although the primal zerg did not return in the End War, there are some primal packs that have remained in Zerus. It is unknown whether Dehaka and his pack volunteered to participate in the fight against Amon.
