Darnell, also known as D, is part of the Funky Family, being one of the twin princes of the Funk Trolls; because of his title, he's also known as Prince Darnell or Prince D. He first appeared in Trolls World Tour.
He is voiced by Anderson .Paak.
Appearance[]
He greatly resembles Cooper, who is his older twin brother. While Cooper normally has a wide-eyed goofy expression on his face, D has a more chilled, laid-back one.
Otherwise, the differences is that like his father King Quincy he has gold tinsel-like fur on his neck. He has shorter, thicker dreadlocks than Cooper, which appear to have rings of gold on them. D also wears an earring on his left ear, which matches the one worn by his father. He also doesn't have buck teeth like Cooper has.
History[]
Trolls World Tour[]
Darnell, later going by the nickname of "D", was born the son of King Quincy and Queen Essence, the leaders of the Funk Trolls. He was raised as an only child, and wasn't made aware that he had a twin brother until he was old enough, though D always felt something was missing in his life. Over time, he developed a love for Funk music as he entered his rebellious adolescence, but found himself also expanding into Hip hop when he was experimenting the Funk genre. He had the history of his Tribe taught to him by his parents.
Eventually, Vibe City would pick up Cooper during he events of Queen Barb's Rock World Tour, and he reunites with his brother; the two soon became inseparable. The family joyfully welcomed back their lost Prince Cooper.
When Queen Poppy, Branch and Hickory arrived, they're greeted by D, initially mistaking him for Cooper due to their strong resemblance to each other. D and Cooper then introduce them to their parents, and all goes well until Poppy suggests the Funk Trolls to combine their music with their own Pop music in order to stop Barb. D describes Scrapbooks as something written by winners, then sings and explains the history of the Strings to Poppy, revealing that that no Tribe will combine their music with each other to fight Queen Barb because of what the Pop Trolls did in the past to hurt everyone. At that moment, Barb attacks and D and the Funk Tribe prepare for battle. They easily get defeated when Riff cuts off Vibe City's power.
D, along with his family and all Funk Trolls are captured and taken to Volcano Rock City, where Barb intends to play the Ultimate Power Chord using her guitar that has converted all strings to the power of Rock, and so convert the entire Troll Kingdom to Rock music. D and Cooper can only watch as Barb begins her final riffs, before she is briefly interrupted by Branch, who protects Poppy from Barb but is the first to be converted into a Rock Zombie. D and Cooper can only watch in horror and dismay as Barb proceeds to convert all the other leaders, including their parents. Poppy tries to stop this, but is converted herself. Barb hands her the guitar to use against the Funk twins, as well as her own father King Peppy, but Poppy surprises Barb having used gumdrops to block out the effects of Rock music, so D, Cooper and Peppy are spared.
Poppy smashes Barb's guitar to prevent her from converting anyone else, but seemingly destroys all music. While every Troll is sad about their loss, Cooper beings to feel a beat within him, and D begins to make music alongside him by beat-boxing. This makes the other Trolls realize that they don't need the Strings to make music anymore. Soon, everyone has their music back and the Tribes are reunited once more. D is seen singing with Branch and dancing with his family and friends in the end credits.
Trolls Band Together[]
Prince D had a minor role in this movie, appearing as an attendee for the wedding of King Gristle Jr. and Bridget. He, Cooper, and King Peppy got Gristle Jr. ready in his bedroom. He then wished Branch and Poppy good luck as the couple left with John Dory to save Floyd.
