Princess Tomoyo is a supporting protagonist in the manga/anime series Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. She is the princess of the Nihon Country and the childhood friend of the ninja Kurogane. Like Yuuko Ichihara, she has the ability to transcend dimensions and is the one who sends Kurogane on his quest. She is an alternate reality version of Tomoyo Daidouji, the tritagonist of Cardcaptor Sakura.
She is voiced by Maaya Sakamoto in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Amber Cotton (TV series) and Trina Nishimura (OVA) in the English version.
History[]
She is a princess of a feudal country called Japan who sends the ninja Kurogane on the quest that causes him to join the dimension travelers. Tomoyo is the Tsukuyomi, a powerful miko sorceress responsible for maintaining the wards of Japan that protect the country from demons.
At one point later on, she gives up her dreamseer power to Yūko as the price for bringing Kurogane's group to Japan as she manages to see them in danger following their encounter with Ashura-ō.
The whole event is then revealed to have been made to return the feather to Sakura as Princess Tomoyo contacted her about the group's arrival.
Personality[]
Similar to her counterpart from Cardcaptor Sakura, Princess Tomoyo is quite wise and mature for her age, in some ways even moreso due to being older and in a position where she's at least partially responsible for protecting her country. She is also very kind, empathetic, self-sacrificing, and gives off a very dignified aura due to pretty much always coming off as calm and never losing her composure even in intense situations. Her kind and empathetic nature is best shown towards Kurogane, whom she sympathized with upon first meeting him when he was only a boy and she was only a young girl despite him being very emotionally unstable and violent from the trauma of losing both of his parents, even stopping him from getting into a battle with her older sister and bodyguard. She later had him taken to the castle where she emotionally comforted him upon waking up, and would go on to accept him as his bodyguard as he grew older.
In the present, while Kurogane initially believes she sent him away on his quest as an excuse to get rid of him, she did it because she was genuinely concerned he had begun to lose his way and enjoy fighting others for its own sake too much, so she hoped that through his interactions with Syaoran and his other companions, he would discover what "true strength" really is. When she reunites with him later on, she shows joy and commends him on learning this lesson during his travels like she had hoped.
