Hear me, Link...! It is I, Princess Zelda... Your current weapons will be useless while Yuga is a painting. So I bestow upon you, my hero, one more gift. This bow is imbued with the light of the Triforce and can be fired only while you are merged into a wall. Yuga cannot escape its radiance, not even in his painted form. Now, for the sake of our worlds, let fly these arrows. And may your aim be true, Link!
~ Zelda giving Link the Bow of Light.
How terribly sad for Princess Hilda... to be driven to such desperation! Her kingdom was in such a sorry state. She and I aren't as different as she thought. I really do understand why she needed our Triforce. Thanks to your heroic efforts, our Triforce and Hyrule itself have been made whole again. There is just one thing left to do, Link. You restored the Triforce. Now, just reach out and touch it. Whatever your wish, it will be granted. Yet, after all that we've seen, do we not share the same wish?
~ Zelda contemplating Hilda's fall to villainy with Link.

History[]

A Link Between Worlds[]

After an incident with Seres being turned into a painting and kidnapped by Yuga, Link pays a visit to Hyrule Castle to let Princess Zelda know what happened. Horrified, the princess entrusts the Pendant of Courage to Link for safekeeping and assures Impa what she is doing is right. After the Eastern Palace is completed and Osfala is captured in the same manner, Hyrule Castle is surrounded by a dark magical barrier that barred anyone from entering or leaving the castle, trapping the princess and everyone else inside. After Link collects the other Pendants, he retrieves the Master Sword from the pedestal at the Lost Woods and uses it to destroy the barrier. However, all of the guards are trapped in walls as graffiti and Zelda is at Yuga's mercy and she is soon trapped in a portrait like the other Seven Sages and taken to another kingdom similar to Hyrule: Lorule.

Yuga uses the portraits of Princess Zelda and the imprisoned Sages to bring Ganon back into the world and fuses with the freed monster, scattering all portraits, save for Zelda, and attempts to kill Link, but a princess similar to Zelda freezes him with her dark magic to save him and introduces herself as Princess Hilda. She enlists Link's help in freeing the Sages to acquire the Triforce of Courage if he has any hope of defeating Yuga Ganon before sending him on his way. When Link completes the temples, there are cutscenes where Hilda can be seen speaking with Zelda (still sealed in the portrait) and voices her envy of her kingdom due to its existing light while her own kingdom is left in perpetual darkness and assures that what she's doing is for the good of Lorule.

After Link frees all the Sages and earns the Triforce of Courage, Hilda lets Link know that Yuga Ganon has broken loose and dispels the barrier blocking the entrance to Lorule Castle. Upon arrival at the same place where they first met, Hilda takes the Triforce of Wisdom from Zelda and tells a tale of how Lorule once had its own Triforce that brought it light and prosperity. But when the Lorulean Civil War broke out due to an unrestrained thirst for its power, Hilda's ancestors had the Triforce completely destroyed, causing Lorule to lose its light and brought it on the verge of falling apart. She reveals her true colors by absorbing the Triforce of Wisdom's power and intends to take Link's Triforce of Courage as well and sends Yuga Ganon to do so. She is eventually betrayed, turned into a portrait, and absorbed by Yuga Ganon, who had declared that he never cared for Lorule's current condition or Hyrule and intended on remaking them in his image alone and battles Link for his Triforce. Princess Zelda calls to Link and bestows the Bow of Light to him that can only be used when he is merged in the wall and wishes him luck. With the sacred bow, Link managed to destroy Yuga and send Ganon back into the Dark World, freeing Hilda and he approaches Zelda to break her out of her portrait prison. They are soon confronted by an enraged Hilda, who was still bent on taking their Triforce to restore her kingdom and refused to listen to Zelda's reasoning. Ravio, the merchant that Link met early on, arrives and reveals himself to be Link's counterpart and one of Hilda's loyal servants and offers to take it from there and lets Hilda know that she is repeating history and the same loss of control is what led to Lorule's Triforce being ultimately destroyed. While Princess Hilda is relatively vexed that Ravio would try to stop her, she is soon remorseful and horrified over what she really had been doing. Ravio encourages her to return the Triforce to Hyrule, so Lorule would not be condemned for this action in its final moments. Hilda relents and explains that she was doing it for the sake of her people and escorts them to Lorule's Sacred Realm and explains that she and Yuga discovered that Hyrule had a Triforce and they devised a plan to take it. She then uses Ravio's Bracelet (which Link used to wall-merge) and uses the last of its power to send Link and Princess Zelda back to their world. Upon their return in Hyrule's Sacred Realm, Zelda is sympathetic for Hilda and her desperation to bring order back to her dying kingdom and she and Link approach the Triforce and they have the same wish as they touch the Triforce. Ravio and Princess Hilda are startled by a sudden quake and are soon overjoyed to see that Lorule's original Triforce as a result of Link and Princess Zelda's wish; and they begin the process to restore Lorule to its former glory.
