The "Profesor Inocencio Jirafales" (his name is confirmed by the magazine "América celebrates Chespirito", in English Professor Girafalde) (in Portuguese: Professor Girafales) is one of the characters in the famous Mexican television series El Chavo del Ocho. He is the teacher at School 8: Benito Juárez, the school attended by El Chavo and his friends; a single man by birth, deeply in love with Doña Florinda.
He was played by the late Mexican actor Rubén Aguirre (1934-2016). In the animated series, he is voiced by Juan Carlos Tinoco (from the first to second seasons), Sebastián Llapur in an episode of the first season and Moisés Suárez Aldana (from the third to seventh seasons).
Beginnings of the character[]
The character started on the show Saturdays of Fortune from the late 60s in a sketch called The Supergeniuses of the Square Table. In 1970, The Sketch became an independent series until 1971; In this program, Rubén Aguirre plays 'Rubén Aguirre y Jirafales' , an intellectual who gives his opinion on events in the local Mexican show business. His last appearance in the sketch was in 1971, in the series "Chespirito and the square table".
In 1973, when he returned to the cast, he found an accommodation in the series El Chavo del Ocho, personifying the same character as the Supergenios, but turned into a school teacher.
Personality[]
Professor Jirafales is highly educated, naive, haughty, and believed. he has an absurdly innocent love affair with Doña Florinda, whom he always visits with a bouquet of flowers and she, politely, always invites him "a cup of coffee". He teaches with all his patience to the children (something unusual for the time when El Chavo del Ocho filmed his seasons), except once, when he pulled Chavo by the ears in the episode and when Don Ramón was part of the classroom with the children. He usually smokes a cigar even in front of the children, which sets a bad example.
He is a teacher with a true vocation and always tries to explain. He knows a lot about the subjects he teaches, such as arithmetic, geography, music (even one day he tries to teach Quico), etc., he has also taught English. He has never been married because of his shyness, and he does not dare to declare Doña Florinda, so in some chapters he asks Don Ramón for help to help him. His last name is an evident reference to his height, which is 6’8” (2.03 m) ., And that of a giraffe. Children, and often adults, will give him nicknames for his height, the most characteristic being the "Master / Maistro Longaniza". He is a character that anyone can estimate and become attached to.
What to say the traditional "tá tá tá tá" came from a teacher from his childhood called Celayo Rodríguez.
Occasionally it claims to be against violence and its derivatives; However, sometimes he beat up Don Ramón or Señor Barriga for defending Doña Florinda, even if she is wrong, and even once attended to Jaimito, which shows that sometimes he acts more with his heart than with his head.
In classes, he tries to teach children about different subjects, but he almost never succeeds, either because of the silly answers that children give when he asks a question or because of the tests they suffer as a disaster. So when Professor Girafales can't take it anymore, he cries desperately or ends the class, leaving the children and then crying and hitting himself (in fact, in some chapters, he does).
Wardrobe[]
He always wears a two-piece suit, which is gray or brown, a tie and a hat. Sometimes she carries a cigar and a bouquet of roses for Doña Florinda. In the animated series, he wears the same costume as in the original series, except that in this version he does not wear the cigar.
In the Acapulco episode he can be seen wearing a white swimsuit with gray stripes.
