Professor Birch is the Pokémon Professor of Hoenn. In the games he is Brendan or May's father. He lives in Littleroot Town. In the anime, he is not explicitly related to May and entrusts Ash as May's bodyguard on her journey. He is friends with Norman the Petalburg City's Gym Leader.
Appearance[]
Professor Birch is a tall, fat man with fair skin, dark eyes, short and slightly wavy brown hair, and a squarish face with a beard. He wears a navy blue T-shirt under a white lab coat, khaki shorts with a black belt, and tan sandals on his feet. He is also sometimes seen with a brown bag, which he keeps his research papers in.
Biography[]
Professor Birch is the Pokémon teacher native to the Hoenn region who specializes in the study of Pokémon habitats and distributions. He is the father of the player character's rival in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, and their remakes.
In the anime, Professor Birch rush over to Ash Ketchum due to his Pikachu's sick. He learn it was the symptom of electrical disorder when Pikachu was strapped by Team Rocket's electromagnetic while Ash is reaching the Hoenn Region.
Abilities[]
Birch's Pokémon specialty is in Pokémon habitats and distribution. He is the one who gives out the Pokédexes in Hoenn and lets trainers choose between one of the three starter Pokémon: Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip.
Trivia[]
- In the anime, he is the first Pokémon Professor to have unevolved starters in his team.
- In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire Version and Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, he is chased by a Poochyena in the beginning of the game. However, he gets pursued by a Zigzagoon in Pokémon Emerald Version.
