Professor Pickle is a hero appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog series, serving as the tritagonist in Sonic Unleashed. He is a human academic based at Spagonia University and a world-renowned scholar and expert in ancient literature.

When Dr. Eggman sought the power of Dark Gaia, Pickle was kidnapped and had his research stolen by Eggman due to his knowledge on the creature, but was freed by Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails and Chip. Pickle then assisted Sonic and his friends in their mission to put the earth back together after it had been shattered by Dark Gaia by guiding them to the Gaia Temples.

He is voiced by Dan Green in the English version and by Shigeru Nagashima in the Japanese version.

Personality[]

Professor Pickle is a very calm, well-educated and wise scientist professor, but he is not without his eccentricities as his mind tends to beat at his own unique pace. He is also easygoing and aloof, even in the most critical situations, such as when he was angrier about Dr. Eggman's poor sandwiches than being kidnapped and trapped inside Eggman's base.

His favorite food of him is cucumber sandwiches and he always shares his knowledge about them. In some ways, he is a perfectionist at such sandwiches, as he has a very firm and definite opinion on how they should be and will care about the smallest details. He has also acquired a variety of interests from his studies of him around the world.

Professor Pickle is a middle-aged man with light skin and has hair and large eyebrows covering his eyes both of which are gray. He's wearing a buttoned coat, brown shoes and pants, and a white T-shirt with a red bow.

Not much is known about Pickle's past before the events of Sonic Unleashed, but more than eighty years before the game he met Otto and the two became friends for life and he inspired him at some point in his life to undertake the career as a researcher. Eventually Pickle became a professor of ancient literature at the University of Spagonia, where he taught students in several classes. He also became an expert on Gaia's manuscripts and did various research on them, eventually getting to know Tails very well.

Sonic Unleashed[]

Shortly before the events of the game, Pickels was kidnapped by Dr. Eggman in his lab, who wants his research and Gaia manuscripts to awaken Dark Gaia and use the power of the beast to complete his Eggmanland project. Pickels was then taken out of his lab with his lab data by Eggman and taken to Mazuri, locked up in a holding cell at Eggman's local base.

Not long after the earth was split in two by Dark Gaia, after it was awakened by Eggman, Tails, Sonic the Werehog and Chip go to rescue Professor Pickels, who is worried and annoyed by the bad food he was coming with. fed during his imprisonment, he wanted to complain to the cook, however he was released and sentenced to leave the prison. Before leaving, however, Pickle asks Sonic and Tails to retrieve Gaia's manuscripts from a nearby vault, before accepting some chocolate from Chip as they leave. Back at his lab, Pickels explains to Sonic and Tails how Dark Gaia was responsible for the planet's destruction and also tells Sonic how he can put the planet back together to reprize Dark Gaia by restoring the currently drained Chaos Emeralds within the seven scattered Gaia Temples. worldwide.

Thereafter, Professor Pickels stays in his lab looking for Gaia's manuscripts, providing Sonic, Tails and Chip with the locations of Gaia's temples in Mazuri, Spagonia, Chun-nan and Holoska and giving them information about the state of the planet. . During his research, Pickels realizes how the Minions of Dark Gaia can possess people, so to counter him he creates "Uncanny Camera" to exorcise possessed people and gives it to Tails and shortly after sees Sonic perform his first remote exorcism. After Sonic is gone, Pickels continues his work and meets Amy and tells her everything he knew about Sonic upon his impatient request of her.

Later, Amy helps Pickels research the Dark Gaia manuscripts. After Sonic and Chip have restored the fourth continent, they go to Pickels who tells them where the next Temple of Gaia is: in Shama. This time he decides to come with them to make his analysis more efficient. Moving his laboratory to his research facility in Shamar, Pickle continues to search for Gaia's manuscripts and located the Temples of Gaia in Adabat and Eggmanland.

When Sonic and Chip are about to restore the last continent, Pickels refers to Tails on his Miles Electric about the restoration process until it is interrupted by Tails' Tornado-1. Dark Gaia begins to expand the world of darkness, Pickels and Amy go out to see the darkening sky, in which Pickle believes in despair as the world seems doomed despite Amy assuring him that Sonic will save them. However, Super Sonic and the Gaia Colossus defeat and lock up Perfect Dark Gaia, which Pickle praised as a miracle when the world returned to normal. When Pickle admits to Amy that he was right, he reflects on how Light Gaia and Dark Gaia were part of the planet's desire for balance when he was dragged with Amy to get ready for Sonic's homecoming party.
