With your help, together, we can finally succeed in my lifelong mission of creating LIFE! Then I will finally take over the world! Muhahaha!
~ Professor Psychotic declaring his mission to create life.

Professor Daniel Psychotic is a minor character from Smiling Friends who serves as the client in the episode "Brother's Egg.” He is a mad scientist who was obsessed with trying to create life by injecting DNA into an egg, but this strained his relationship with his brother Doug. After failing to make amends, the hatching of the homunculus made both of them realize Daniel's potential, prompting them to put aside their differences to raise the creature together.

He is voiced by series' co-creator Michael Cusack, who also voices Pim and Allan in the same show.

Appearance[]

He is a tall, lanky humanoid figure with an elongated, oval-shaped head with sparse hair, large eyes that seem to bulge out, and a prominent, elongated nose. He has pale skin and his hands both have four long, spindly fingers. He wears blue jeans, a white lab coat that reaches down to his thighs, and a light blue-green shirt, all with numerous stains.

Personality[]

Initially, Daniel appears to be a one-dimensional character, wholly obsessed with his life-creating experiments and mad scientist pursuits with a generic and theatrical mad scientist persona. However, beneath this exterior lies a timid, socially awkward, and troubled individual. The death of his mother created a deep rift between him and his brother, as Professor Psychotic used their inheritance to chase his scientific dreams by spending it all on a lab. He often blames his brother's substance abuse for many of his own failures, but neglected his brother's potentially valid concerns about him wasting time, not contributing financially, and neglecting himself. Lacking self-confidence, he was always hesitant to express his opinions and struggled to defend himself until the Smiling Friends helped facilitate their reconciliation.

However, following the hatching of his homunculus, the brothers have mended their relationship and now show much more care and concern for each other.

Trivia[]

  • He could possibly be a parody of Dr. Insano, a villain played by Spoony on Channel Awesome. Additionally, his design may be a parody of Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty, another series produced by Adult Swim.
