History[]
After years of military tension, the aging North Korean President, Choi Kim, starts embracing the Sunshine Policy of South Korea, reviving hopes of peaceful reunification of North and South Korea. However, high-ranking members of the Korean People's Army become disgruntled with the turn of events, fearing a dramatic loss of their power.
Their leader, the brilliant and ruthless Choi Song, believes that his father, President Kim, was losing sight of "North Korea's true destiny". Song leads an army of insurgents into a ceremony celebrating a road map to the reunification of Korea. Both North and South Korean political leaders are shot and killed, and Song reportedly murdered his own father in the process.
After the successful coup, General Song then severs all contact with the outside world. The whole country goes "dark" for weeks, until a North Korean freighter was accidentally discovered to contain a small but potent nuclear weapon bound for an Indonesian terrorist front.
Various intelligence agencies in the world subsequently found North Korea's missile capability to be far more advanced than previously anticipated. Song's possession of nuclear weapons and ICBMs, as well as his deal with terrorist groups, prompted the formation of an Allied Nation Task Force.
The multinational troops toppled Song's government and captured the launch sites, only to discover that North Korea was building more nuclear warheads at another unknown launch site. The missiles were to be completed in three weeks, and only the elusive General Song had the launch codes. With millions of lives at risk, the AN had no choice but occupy the region and search for Song.
The North Korean military's remnants fiercely resist the foreign invaders, and the AN are repelled. The Russian mafia infiltrates the country, hoping to exploit the chaos and establish a black market. In addition, Chinese and South Korean troops move into North Korea, both intent on establishing a government under the agenda of Beijing and Seoul, respectively.
Unable to maintain control or find Song, the AN distributes a "most wanted" list in the form of a "Deck of 52" (based on the most-wanted Iraqi playing cards), consisting of key figures of the North Korean criminal underground, businessmen, weapon scientists, and military leaders under Song's leadership. At the top of the list was General Song himself, the Ace of Spades, with an open bounty of $100,000,000.
Executive Operations (also known as ExOps) is a private military company that responds immediately, by sending an ExOps mercenary (either Jacobs, Mui, or Nilsson) aboard a C-17 cargo plane, en route to a drop zone in the Korean Demilitarized Zone. As soon as the merc hits the ground in the middle of the chaos, the player assumes control, beginning their manhunt for the Deck of 52.
The merc becomes acquainted with the top brass of the Allied Nations, the South Korean forces, the Chinese forces, and the Russian mafia. The merc can accept contracts of any factions to gain intelligence, cash, air support options, and the faction's favor. With the gathered intelligence, or by exploration of the region, the mercenary comes across numerous "number cards" and "face cards" to kill/capture, claiming the bounties.
When enough intelligence is gathered, the merc accepts an Ace contract from the AN and breaks through to an enemy stronghold to verify the "Ace". After two Ace contracts, the theater of war shifts to the Northern Province, and the mercenary moves to the new region. Through various contracts, the merc proceeds up the Deck of 52, and is finally given the Ace of Spades contract.
After a long battle against defending North Korean forces at the missile launch site, the merc manages to acquire the launch codes and disable the missiles. The merc rescues the imprisoned President Kim, who was in fact alive, and seizes control of Song's fortress. The merc then manages to verify (kill/capture) General Song. If the merc uploads the abort codes in time, the game ends with a GSRN reporter stating that the missiles exploded in flight.
If the merc fails to upload the abort codes, Seoul and other major cities are destroyed. If Song is killed rather than captured, the $100,000,000 bounty is halved, leaving the merc with $50,000,000. Regardless, Song's defeat does not end the violence and unrest raging throughout North Korea, and the former nation faces a troubled and uncertain future. There are multiple endings, but the sequel reveals that the canon ending is with China emerging victorious in the conflict, thus annexing North Korea.
Three years later, the three mercs and their technical support advisor, Fiona Taylor, have left ExOps to work independently after something went wrong with the people they were working with during an operation in Montenegro. From that point on, the four agreed to work alone. However, they realised that they needed more operatives, so they opted to create their own private military company. One of the mercs is referred to a contract in Venezuela by a man from Liberia named Blanco, whom the mercs had worked with in Dakar. Blanco introduces the merc to Ramon Solano, a billionaire software entrepreneur with family ties to drug trafficking.
Using his connections, Solano had convinced General Carlos Carmona and large portions of the Venezuelan Army to overthrow the government. However, General Carmona had since been captured by loyalist army units, leading Solano to hire the merc to rescue him. Upon rescuing Carmona and returning him to Solano, however, the merc is betrayed. Solano attempts to execute the merc, but his soldiers only manage to shoot the merc in the buttock as he/she flees his mansion. Humiliated and penniless, the merc watches the news on TV as Solano overthrows the government in a coup. Fiona and the merc decide to take revenge.
Appearance[]
Chris is a biracial man with a muscular build and a light brown skin tone. Due to his father being black and his mother being Korean, Chris has some features of both races. He has black hair styled into cornrows in Mercs, but is bald in Mercs 2. Strangely, his Mercs 2 appearance is vastly different, as he now looks completely Afro-American.
Jen is a biracial woman with a slender and extremely fit build who seems to fancy herself as very physically attractive. She has fairly short black hair; one side is swept behind her ear, while the other covers some of her face. Like Chris, she is half-Asian, as her mother is Chinese, while her father is a white Englishman.
Mattias is a Caucasian man with a muscular and athletic build. He styles his blond hair in a mohawk with the sides buzzed, complemented by a small moustache and beard. In Mercs 2, he is revealed to have many tattoos littered on his arms.

Chris | Chris Jacobs is the son of a South Korean diplomat and a United States Army Colonel, with a long line of ancestors serving in the nation's military. Following their footsteps, he pushed to succeed, and applied to and was quickly accepted into Delta Force, the United States' premiere counter-terrorist agency. He was an accomplished operative, soon rising to position as a unit commander. Caring deeply for them, he led them through perilous operations in Iraq, Darfur, and Afghanistan. During these conflicts, he saw that the ideals of men like his father were impossible to uphold. He witnessed his commanders sabotage missions for personal gain, intentionally compromise operatives and allowed for horrible atrocities to be committed. This culminated with a joint-operations mission with the Special Air Service, which resulted in the deaths of five of his men. Embittered, he did not re-enlist when his tour was up. In spite of this, Jacobs realised that he could never "give up the battlefield", and with years of military experience and few skill sets for any other occupation, he became a mercenary, working for Executive Operations, where he served a tour during the "Song Initiative". | Jacobs is bitter, cynical, and somewhat amoral. Chris sees only three kinds of people: the ignorant masses, their corrupt leaders, and enterprising individuals who manipulate and exploit both. He laughs at the notion that this can change, and he laughs at the people ignorant enough to believe this; he has no expectations that this view will change anytime in the future, though he does maintain a pleasant and likeable disposition to others, and his idealistic self has not completely died. As a merc, Chris not only had a well-paying job which allowed him to travel across the world, but left him free to wage his own personal war against "the bad guys" - in other words, individuals whom he believes stands against everything he once fought for. Without the restraints of red tape, moral backlash, or corrupt seniors to hold him back, he finds a small measure of comfort in his new career. While these traits would make him a liability in a regular army, it makes him a perfect mercenary and solo operative. After the North Korean operation, he took to smoking cigars and often has one clenched between his teeth. He never seems to become attached to anyone, leaving a question of loyalty. | Jacobs' Delta Force training gives him a keen insight regarding battle, mostly fighting using conventional army tactics; he is highly adaptable to any combat situation and thinks on his feet. In the first game, Jacobs wears custom-made body armour that made him more resilient against enemy fire but slowed down his movement speed somewhat. In the second game, Chris is capable of holding slightly more ammo for his weapons than the other two mercs, allowing him to fight for longer in a combat situation. He speaks fluent Korean, taught by his mother, who was a Korean translator. |
Jen | Jennifer Mui was born in Hong Kong. Her father is an English cultural attaché, and her mother is a Chinese diplomat. Her parents divorced when she was 12. Mui moved to England with her mother and her father remained in Hong Kong. Being the daughter of a single parent who was often busy at work made Jen very independent and self-reliant. She was an exceptional student and athlete, and she joined the paratroopers in the British Armed Forces after her graduation. She later moved on to the Special Air Service. It was during this time that an MI6 recruiter took an interest in her. Although she enjoyed her work and was supremely qualified for it, she was dissatisfied with the income she'd been earning. She left MI6 and became a mercenary, where her espionage experience put her in high demand. She joined Executive Operations, serving them for seven years and participating in the "Song Initiative". | From a young age, Jen had learned to be self-reliant and independent, believing it to be a weakness to rely on others, trusting only a select few of her colleagues. This is a product of a lack of strong parental influence in her life. Her parents separated and her mother frequently away on business-related matters, leaving her to rely on herself. She is also what some may call greedy, as she possesses a huge attraction to material wealth, stemming from her desire to lead a life better than her mother's after her divorce. She never questions the morality of her work, only the income, believing that everyone is dirty, but their money is clean. She enjoys her job as a mercenary, discovering that it allows her to remain independent of others and provides the income to support the lifestyle which she desires. She is also a shrewd negotiator, frequently manipulating new clients who underestimate her feminine charms. | After years of MI6 service and its required training, Jen has molded into a supremely skilled individual for operations requiring a stealthy approach. Jennifer always makes the choice to remain as quiet and covert as possible, while simultaneously boasting a faster running speed than Chris, and later Mattias. Being an expert marksman possessing skill with a sniper and other covert weapons, Jen is also skilled at throwing grenades further than her comrades. On the other hand, she always wears less body armor or protective gear than Chris and Mattias, and so she is less durable in combat. Due to her slender frame and lower muscle mass, she is unable to carry as much ammunition as Chris and Mattias, but is able to sprint faster, and able to cover more distance before becoming winded. She is a fluent speaker of Chinese due to having been born and raised in Hong Kong. |
Mattias | Mattias Nilsson was born in Arvidsjaur, Sweden. He rarely attended school, and often committed petty crime in his teens, before joining the Swedish Navy at 17, then later joining the Swedish Army. | Able to be summarised as a "wild man", Mattias is a rowdy, boisterous, adrenaline junkie, who finds that his mercenary work allows him to operate independently of those who may disapprove of his actions, with his employers typically being concerned only with results. At its core, it is his way of being paid for doing what he loves. Though volatile, he is not sadistic or psychotic. He does not take pleasure from the deadly results of his destructive impulses, though he is not unaware of them either, accepting their inevitability. He is also possessed of a dry, sarcastic wit, delivering his lines with a deadpan tone. The characteristic that has given him the most fame is his frequent use of high-grade explosives for even the smallest problems, as well as his tendency to not only defeat his enemies, but utterly destroy them. Even those familiar with his reputation are shocked by his penchant for explosive violence. However, he does have a 'soft' side; loyal to those he considers friends and willing to stand up to a threat to defend them. He cares little about who employs him or why, only that it allows him to exercise his love of explosives and destruction. According to the Mercenaries 2 website, Mattias' favourite music is Swedish death metal, a genre characteristic of his own aggressive, violent, and rebellious nature. | Mattias' time in the Arctic Rangers has made him extremely athletic, capable of running, sprinting, and swimming for long distances. He is also physically strong and coordinated, able to knock out or even kill enemy combatants with one bash from whatever weapon he's holding. His time in the Swedish biker gang has made him an expert in driving motorcycles, and his criminal career has trained him in carjacking and evasive driving. While Chris uses conventional military tactics to approach missions, and while Jennifer prefers to remain quiet and covert, Mattias uses massive firepower to destroy everything in his wake. His stint in various private military companies has given him experience with nearly all modern small arms and military craft, including helicopters, gunships, maritime assault craft, and tanks. He is also very adept at using air strikes, including beacon, radio homing, and satellite coordinated munitions. Moreover, he is much smarter than he lets on, as he is fluent in Russian and English. |

Chris | His mother is a Korean interpreter, and his father was a U.S. Army Colonel. His mother taught him to speak Korean while his father gave him invaluable advice on military tactics. He served as part of the Army's Combat Applications Group for seven years, before realising that his skills were highly bankable. So he joined ExOps. No one can withstand as much punishment as him. | Jacobs dropped out of high school to follow in his father's footsteps as a soldier. Showing special interest in counter-terrorism, Jacobs was selected for the 1st Special Forces Operation Detachment, Combat Applications Group, also known as Delta Force. Son of an American father and Korean mother, Jacobs was raised with a strong sense of duty and honor. He quickly extended these feelings to his squad mates. When they were killed under his command, his world-view was irreparably damaged. Jacobs' supervising officers in the Combat Applications Group noted his command and leadership skills, and the strong bond he enjoyed with his fellow soldiers. He received several promotions in only a few years. Jacobs' career with the CAG ended after a joint hostage-rescue mission with the SAS. The botched operation cost Jacobs two of his men. He soon resigned, citing 'lack of leadership' on the part of his commanders. Six months later, Jacobs applied for a position with ExOps. | The Strong Merc. Chris is a hearty, larger-than-life figure. Faced with the worst that mankind can do, Chris reacts with a wry smile and a smart-ass remark. He doesn't expect any better. His only problem is figuring out who the bad guys are - it used to be so easy! Now he's not so sure. |
Jen | Jennifer is an ex-member of MI6. She is great at avoiding detection, using her training and natural abilities to sneak into places where other soldiers would stick out like a sore thumb. | After graduating with high marks from a prestigious British college, Jennifer joined the army. Her career there quickly led her to become a sergeant in the Paratroopers, and eventually an agent in the Special Action Service. Psychological Evaluation: Mui has great value in the long term if she overcomes her fear of trusting others. If she learns to trust her support operative, that trust could easily be transferred to ExOps as a whole. Recommend placing her with Fiona Taylor. | The Quick Merc. Mui ('Jen' only to her friends) is the most expensive mercenary on Earth. If it seems like she focuses on money and nothing else, it's because she focuses on money and nothing else. She finds it amusing that there are people dumb enough to think anything else is important. |
Mattias | Nilsson may have experience in the past, but as far as the other mercs are concerned, he's a rookie. Until you run with ExOps for a few years, you haven't seen real combat. However, in his short time, he's proven to move faster than anyone on the battlefield, and a fast merc is a merc who comes home in one piece. | As a teenager, Nilsson rarely attended school and was often in trouble with the law. Faced with a career in unskilled labour and the likely result that he'd someday be arrested for assault, Mattias joined the Royal Navy at the age of 17. Nilsson's Naval career ended abruptly. Though his high test scores earned him admittance into the Coastal Artillery, his constant off-duty brawling earned him several reprimands. He was deemed too violent and unstable to serve in the service, and was asked to leave. His career in the Navy over, Nilsson joined Tactical Solutions Inc., earning a reputation as a dangerous but effective agent. Their officers gave him glowing reviews, while noting unfavourably a tendency to use explosives and negotiated air strikes to solve problems best suited to small arms. Though his methods risk bringing unwanted media attention to ExOps, Nilsson is a reliably successful operative and currently enjoys the highest survivability index of any active agent. PsychEval: Nilsson is erratic, chaotic, and unpredictable, though effective. He enjoys using excessive force in the field and cares little for anything in his personal life except his next job. | The Tough Merc. Mattias thrives on chaos. He loves it when governments collapse and things get crazy. He hates authority and doesn't care for people in general, but sometimes shows a soft spot for the little guy, trying to get by. He doesn't care about his personal safety, doesn't care if he lives or dies. He just likes having fun. |

Mercenaries Intro[]
Chris' intro
- Fiona: Hey, Chris, do you read me?... Wake up.
- Chris: Just restin' my eyes. What's our ETA?
- Fiona: You're about ten minutes from the DMZ drop zone.
- Chris: Damn. They were gonna bump me up to first class.
- Fiona: Listen, we're close - you might want to get your gear together for the drop.
- Chris: (Approaches the PDA)
- Fiona: You checked out your new PDA yet?
- Chris: Little bit. Seems nicer than the one we had in Libya. Hope it's more durable.
- Fiona: We know you'll treat THIS machine a lot better.
- Chris: I'll do my best. (Whacks the PDA on the wall)
- Fiona: I heard that! If you can stop abusing it for a minute, I wanna test our uplink. I'm tapped into every satellite feed I can get my hands on. That means, when I send you a blip on your PDA, you check it out.
- Chris: This thing play MP3's?
- Fiona: Of course!
- Chris: Really?
- Fiona: No.
- Chris: (Approaches the grenades) M67.
- Fiona: Standard issue frag grenades.
- Chris: Should get me started. (Approaches the carbine)
- Fiona: I know it's not state of the art.
- Chris: Never let me down before.
- Pilot: This is Black Bird. DMZ's in visual range. The drop zone is hot - we'll be comin' in low an' fast.
- Fiona: You heard the man. Time to get going.
- Chris: (Approaches the cargo door lever)
- Fiona: Chris? You ready?
- Chris: Yeah.
- Fiona: You know they say the DMZ's the most dangerous place on Earth?
- Chris: You worried about me, Fiona?
- Fiona: Ugh, I'm worried about our payday. A hundred million dollars. You think you could spend THAT much money in one lifetime?
- Chris: Trust me... I'll die tryin'. (Pulls the lever)
Jen's intro
- Fiona: This is Fiona with ExOps. Do you read me? Jennifer?
- Jen: Five by five, Fiona. ETA?
- Fiona: You're about ten minutes from the DMZ drop zone.
- Jen: Glad to hear your voice on the line. Wouldn't have made it through Iraq without you.
- Fiona: Bet you say that to all your support operatives.
- Jen: Only the ones who save my arse.
- Fiona: Just doing my job. We're close - you might want to get your gear together for the drop.
- Jen: (Approaches the PDA)
- Fiona: Have you checked out your new PDA yet?
- Jen: Of course. Transflective screen, high-res image, fast uplink...
- Fiona: Don't worry, there's not going to be a test.
- Jen: Not true - I'll be testing it plenty in the field. (Approaches the grenades) Hm, M67.
- Fiona: Standard issue frag grenades.
- Jen: Produces casualties within fifteen meters. Lethal under five... Definitely up to my standards. (Approaches the carbine)
- Fiona: I know it's not state of the art.
- Jen: M4A1 carbine, hm. Barrel tends to overheat. Other than that, a fine weapon.
- Pilot: This is Black Bird. DMZ's in visual range. The drop zone is hot - we'll be comin' in low an' fast.
- Fiona: You heard the man. Time to get going.
- Jen: (Approaches the cargo door lever)
- Fiona: Jennifer? You ready?
- Jen: I'm good, Fiona. Five by five.
- Fiona: You know they say the DMZ's the most dangerous place on Earth?
- Jen: I know.
- Fiona: But still, a hundred million dollars. You think you could spend THAT much money in one lifetime?
- Jen: You know me... I've got expensive tastes. (Pulls the lever)
Mattias' intro
- Fiona: Hey, Mattias. My name's Fiona, your ExOps support co-ordinator for this mission.
- Mattias: What's the deal, we almost there yet?
- Fiona: Nice to meet you, too... You're about ten minutes from the DMZ drop zone.
- Mattias: Good. Waiting is not my thing.
- Fiona: Try meditation, I've heard that helps.
- Mattias: Just get me off this bird an' I'll be fine.
- Fiona: Listen, we're close - you might want to get your gear together for the drop.
- Mattias: (Approaches the PDA)
- Fiona: Have you checked out your new PDA yet?
- Mattias: I'm not much of a gadget guy.
- Fiona: Well, that 'gadget' could save your life.
- Mattias: Yeah? Can it stop a bullet?
- Fiona: It can stop you from wandering around North Korea like a clueless idiot.
- Mattias: (Approaches the grenades) M67's... I love M67's.
- Fiona: Standard issue frag grenades.
- Mattias: They'll do until I get my hands on a... tomahawk, or one of the Spookys the South Koreans have been using. (Approaches the carbine)
- Fiona: I know it's not state of the art.
- Mattias: Well it kills people, right?
- Pilot: This is Black Bird. DMZ's in visual range. The drop zone is hot - we'll be comin' in low an' fast.
- Fiona: You heard the man. Time to get going.
- Mattias: (Approaches the cargo door lever)
- Fiona: Mattias? Are you ready?
- Mattias: I'm always ready... ALWAYS... ready.
- Fiona: You know they say the DMZ's the most dangerous place on Earth?
- Mattias: Just wait 'til I get there.
- Fiona: Easy, boy... Just don't forget our payday, okay?
- Mattias: Forget the hundred million dollars? Impossible. (Pulls the lever)
Mercenaries 2 Intro[]
- Blanco: Brother!/Jennifer!/Mattias, brother! Good to see you again! It has been a long time since Dakar.
- Chris: Dakar, right. Hell, I'm surprised you remember it - you were only there about ten minutes before you ran out on me. / Jen: I remember Dakar. I remember you leaving me to fight off an army division all by myself. / Mattias: Yeah, I remember - I remember seeing your big ass as you ran away.
- Blanco: Money dried up. I cut my losses. You should have done the same.
- Chris: They always try to screw you. And I always get paid. / Jen: Oh, I got paid. I always get paid. / Mattias: I got paid - I always get paid.
- Blanco: I need your guns. No one sees the boss armed.
- Solano: Blanco. This is your friend?
- Blanco: Chris/Jennifer/Mattias, this is Ramon Solano. Mr. Solano is the richest man in Venezuela.
- Chris/Mattias: What's the contract? / Jen: I can tell we're going to get along perfectly. What's the contract?
- Solano: Last week, General Carlos Carmona and his soldiers attempted a coup. A small faction in Carmona's army objected. They captured him and are holding him prisoner.
- Chris: Ya probably deserve each other. Bet ya got great plans for Carmona's army. / Jen: And ya got some great plan for Carmona and his army? / Mattias: And you've got some great plan for Carmona and his army?
- Solano: I have great plans for Venezuela.
- Chris/Jen/Mattias: So, it's me against a bunch of VZ soldiers?
- Solano: That's it. Will you accept the contract?
- Chris: Sure... Someone'll take your money - might as well be me. / Jen: As long as your cheques don't bounce. / Mattias: Sure, I'll take your money.
- Carmona: (Being rescued by the merc) Who the HELL are you?!
- Chris: I'm Jacobs. Solano sent me to get you. / Jen: I'm Mui. / Mattias: I'm Nilsson. Solano sent me to get you.
- Carmona: Where's the rest of your team?
- Chris: I don't need a team for a job like this. / Jen: I'm the complete package. / Mattias: I suffice.
- Carmona: So, you're a merc... He knows a good deal when he sees it.... Let's get the hell out of here. (They return to the villa)
- Blanco: Chris!/Jennifer!/Mattias! Welcome back. Job well done(, brother).
- Chris: Just like old times! Me doin' all the work, an' you nowhere to be seen. / Jen: Just like old times! Me doing all the work; you, nowhere to be seen. / Mattias: You should have come along. People running and screaming in fear - you would have fit right in.
- Carmona: Well... they have the oil... Universal Petroleum will be our first-
- Blanco: Excuse me... Mr. Solano?
- Solano: Ahh, Mr. Jacobs / Miss Mui / Mattias. I have another job that needs doing.
- Chris/Jen/Mattias: First, I get paid.
- Solano: I'm sorry, the job is not for you... The job IS you. Tomorrow, General Carmona's troops will roll into the capital, and I will be Venezuela's new leader.
- Chris: I knew this was gonna happen. / Jen: You should've just paid me the money - I love money. / Mattias: Sure.
- Solano: This means there will be many bounties on my head. I can't have your friends hunting me. It's bad for business.
- Chris/Jen/Mattias: So's this. Now, I have to kill you.
- Blanco: Sorry, brother/Jennifer.
- Chris/Jen/Mattias: You piece of shit. (Gets shot in the buttock and escapes to the bar)
- Fiona: Chris? Please. Sit down. / Jen, please, sit down. / Mattias? Please. Sit down
- Jen: He can't. He got shot in the arse. / Chris: She can't - she got shot in the ass! / Chris: He can't. He got shot in the ass.
- Chris: You checkin' out my ass? There's hope for you yet. / Jen: Trust YOU to be looking at my arse. / Mattias: Upper thigh.
- Fiona: We're leaving Venezuela tonight.
- Chris: Negative. / Jen: Nope. / Mattias: No.
- Fiona: Solano controls the army now. It's not safe to operate here.
- Chris: You're right it's not safe, 'cause I'm gonna blow up this whole country if I have to... To get Solano. / Jen: You're right it's not safe, because I'm here an' I'm PISSED off. / Mattias: I'm used to people trying to kill me, but this... is somethin' personal.
- Mattias: Yeah, no one shoots him in the ass and gets away with it. / Chris: Yeah, no one shoots HER/HIM in the ass and gets away with it.
- Jen: Solano didn't pay. Chris does what he says he'll do. He better pay him. / Mattias: They didn't pay her. The worst thing they could've done. / Jen: And he didn't get paid.

- In Mercs, if the merc examines the projector in the Chinese briefing room, Colonel Zhou Peng will sarcastically remark "I regret that there are no western 'video games' for you to amuse yourself with."
- In Mercs, there are several times where mission-givers have unique dialogue for Jen.
- When starting "Reactor Retrieval", Colonel Samuel Garrett will say "This is the man/woman I've been waiting for."
- When starting "A Farewell to Kings", CIA Agent Mitchell Buford will either say "All right, here's the man. Got me Kaesong, kept me in the game. Let's talk turkey." or "Hey, look who's back, Kim. It's everybody's favourite mercenary."
- When starting "Foothold", Sergei Voronov will either say "You like girls, eh? I can get you some girls. I can get you anything you want." or "You like boys? Men? Girls? I can get you anything you want."
- The only time the mercs are seen together is at the end of the Mercs 2 prologue, sitting in a bar with Fiona.
- The trio are also seen together on the Mercenaries front cover, though this is likely non-canon.
- During said cutscene, Jen wears her sleeveless outfit (just her default outfit without the jacket).
- Also, the protagonist's bullet wound in the buttock is no longer present on their trousers here.
- Jen may break the fourth wall in Mercs 2.
- When changing into her catsuit, she will usually make a disgusted grunt before muttering, "God, I might as well be in a video game."
- When changing into her chicken suit, she may sigh before saying, "Yes, it's embarrassing... But not as embarrassing as being YOU."
- A recurring joke throughout the series is Mattias knowing nothing about babysitting.
- In Mercs, during the Allied Nations contract where you need to drive a GSRN reporter to various sites, Fiona asks Mattias "Up for a little babysitting?" to which Mattias obliviously replies "What the hell is babysitting?"
- In Mercs 2, during the Universal Petroleum contract that involves transporting an executive Fiona again refers to babysitting, this time Mattias confusingly responding with "Why would anyone sit on a baby?"
Errors[]
- In Mercs, if a vehicle explodes while Jen is in it, a glitch will occur where she loses her rucksack.
- In Mercs, hostile AN soldiers will shout "Get him!" or "Don't let him get away!" if provoked, even if you are playing as Jen.
- According to his bio, Chris quit high school to serve in the army. This would be impossible, as military service requires a diploma.
- If Chris picks up an assault rifle in Mercs 2, he will say that the AK-47 is his favorite weapon, even though it's an AK-103 or an AKM.
- In Mercs, all mercs refer to the grenades as M67 grenades, yet they are actually the M61 variant, which is just the M26A1 with a "jungle clip" attached to the safety lever.
- Similarly, Jen refers to the carbine as an M4A1, but it is actually the similar Colt 727, as noted by its fixed carry handle. However, the carbine in Mercs 2 is correctly based on the M4A1. Moreover, Jen mentions the carbine's tendency to overheat, yet this has no effect in gameplay; the only real downside to automatic fire is the lack of accuracy.
