The Wood Oak City Police Department acts as the law enforcement of Wood Oak City. However, due to the Syndicate Crime Organisation's prevelant corruption and bribery, little actual police work is done, and the Syndicate's thugs run rampant through the streets mostly unopposed.
History[]
Streets of Rage[]
Due to either being in the Syndicate's pocket or being too terrified of it to stick their necks out, all the efforts of Adam Hunter, Axel Stone, and Blaze Fielding to establish an anti-Syndicate task force fail. Finally, Adam, Axel, and Blaze take matters into their own hands by resigning from the police force and become vigilantes to take the fight to the Syndicate directly. Proving that there are at least some brave and loyal members of the force, they are backed up by a police officer who supports them with heavy, but limited artillery.
Streets of Rage 2[]
In 1992, one year after the defeat of Mr. X and the Syndicate, Adam, Axel and Blaze had met at their favourite nightspot in the city to celebrate the anniversary, reminiscing on their vigilante crusade and triumphant victory from the previous year. Shortly afterwards, Axel and Blaze had moved out of the city after the adventure, with Axel working as a part-time bodyguard, and Blaze teaching dance classes. Adam has since rejoined the police force and lives in a small house with his younger brother, Eddie "Skate" Hunter.
The next afternoon, Blaze had received an unexpected emergency phone call from Skate, informing her that Skate arrived home from school to find his house in ruin and his older brother missing. Attached to the front door was a picture of Adam chained to a wall at the Mr. X's feet. The criminals began to retake the streets once more, as beatings and looting took place regularly and in broad daylight; chaos reigned in the city, and worse than before.
Realizing that Mr. X and the Syndicate have returned for revenge, Blaze immediately calls Axel and informs him about the unexpected situation, with Axel himself personally vowing to help Blaze kill Mr. X and find Adam. From within the preparation of their upcoming second battle against Mr. X and the Syndicate, Blaze and Axel are soon joined by Skate, who wishes to help find Adam. Axel contacts his friend, a professional wrestler named Max "Thunder" Hatchett, and seeks his help in saving the city and rescuing Adam.
The quartet soon embarks on a rescue mission, which takes them from the city streets all the way to Mr. X's hideout on a desolate island, where they eventually face Mr. X and his bodyguard Shiva. Unlike the other two games in the series, Streets of Rage 2 has only one ending, where Mr. X is killed and Adam is rescued, after which the five characters leave in a helicopter.
Streets of Rage 3[]
In 1994, when the Syndicate plants several bombs around the city, the police go into action to disarm them. However, this is merely a ploy to distract the police from the Syndicate's true objective: to kidnap the Chief of Police and other important civil officers and replace them with robot duplicates that would give the Syndicate control over the city. Adam, who still has obligations to the police force, cannot aid Axel and Blaze directly, but he does send his younger brother Eddie "Skate" Hunter on his behalf, and later backs the heroes up with a helicopter.
Bare Knuckle III[]
In 1994, an experimental biological weapon called Rakushin is detonated in the city suburbs, causing massive damage and casualties, the Police dispatch Axel and Blaze, who are now working as private detectives, to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
