Prowl is the middle sibling of the Autobot Brothers, and a major character in Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2001). As a police officer, Prowl prides himself as a by-the-book cop, often following regulations to the letter and trying to control his mischievous younger brother, Sideburn.

Robots In Disguise[]
Prowl first appears when Optimus Prime initiates Battle Protocol and summons the Autobot Brothers to assist him against Megatron and his Predacons in NYC. Despite their arrival to assist, Megatron makes off with Dr. Kenneth Onishi, leaving his son Koji heartbroken and becoming allies with the Autobots until they can rescue him.
At one point, Prowl is in pursuit with several real police cruisers as they pursue Sideburn and a disguised Megatron in his car form. Realizing the severity of the situation, Prowl tells his backup to break off and leave him to pursue alone. Unfortunately, Prowl loses Sideburn and Megatron due to a red light, and when Sideburn is captured, Prowl is assigned with X-Brawn to aid the Spychangers with rescuing him. Disguised as ugly-looking vehicles, Prowl and X-Brawn manage to get close to the location where the Predacons are holding Sideburn, and Optimus is soon captured as well before Megatron arrives to have some fun with the subdued Autobot leader. Luckily, Prowl has Koji use a magnetic crane for him to slip inside and ambush the Predacons, freeing Optimus and Sideburn. Once X-Brawn and the Spychangers arrive, the Predacons are forced into retreat.
As things continue, the Autobots are led to Castle Peak, where an Autobot ship crashed and contained six protoforms within. Megatron got to them first and took them to the nearby McKinley Army Base to find vehicle forms for them before infusing them with his spark energy, creating the Decepticon Commandos: Scourge, Mega-Octane, Rollbar, Armorhide, Ro-Tor, and Movor. Optimus' brother, Ultra Magnus, later came to Earth to seek control of the Matrix from Optimus, resulting in their first combining into Omega Prime. As a result, Magnus now shared the Matrix with Optimus, resulting in where when Prowl and his brothers are in danger after being captured by the Decepticons and Predacons, the Matrix uses Magnus to pass its power onto the Autobot Brothers, granting them supercharged forms, with Prowl's giving him the appearance of an American police cruiser from his normal Japanese livery. Soon after that, the Autobots and Decepticons clash as they soon locate the ruins under which Fortress Maximus resided. Now wanting to keep the fortress out of enemy hands, Optimus assigns the Autobot Brothers to guard the entrance to the cave with Team Bullet Train for at least 24 hours while he deals with having the Build Team move Fortress Maximus somewhere safe. When Prowl and his brothers find Koji being confronted by Sky-Byte, suspecting he was trying to harm Koji, Prowl gets him out of the way while X-Brawn and Sideburn attack Sky-Byte. They later change into their supercharged forms to launch a combined blast at Sky-Byte, but when Koji discovers that Sky-Byte freed his father from being a prisoner of the Predacons and Decepticons, he orders Prowl and his brothers to back off because Sky-Byte saved his dad.

After Sky-Byte retreats to chase after Scourge, pleading for him not to tell Megatron of what happened with Dr. Onishi, Prowl and his brothers watch Koji and his father reunite before being properly introduced to him alongside Omega Prime. With Dr. Onishi now aiding them, Prowl and the other Autobots begin searching for the O-Parts that would help lead to Cerebros, the Headmaster of Fortress Maximus. Though the Autobots get all the O-Parts, T-AI puts herself at risk as she merges with the O-Parts to guide Optimus and the Autobot Brothers to the Sahara Desert where the Orb of Sigma is hidden. When Megatron arrives at the pyramid where the Orb of Sigma is found after merging with the O-Parts, Prowl and X-Brawn fight them with Optimus until Sideburn and Koji arrive and grab the combined globe out of Megatron's hand. Under Optimus' orders, Prowl and X-Brawn transform back to vehicle mode to escape with Sideburn, running over Sky-Byte in the process as they are pursued by the Commandos. Once outside, when Ultra Magnus opens fire on the Decepticons, Prowl and X-Brawn return to robot mode to fight them while Sideburn escapes with Koji and the globe. Realizing the Autobot Brothers are still able to handle their supercharged forms no problem, Scourge orders a retreat. Back at Autobot HQ, T-AI is safely recovered, and provides the info she gathered that would lead to Cerebros.
However, Cerebros ends up in the hands of the Decepticons, but after Scourge attempts several tries to control the lumbering Autobot using his Autobot and human bio-signatures from when he was created and getting Koji's friend Carl to pilot it to attempt to overthrow Galvatron, Cerebros ends up in Autobot hands and Scourge and his Decepticons are re-brainwashed by Galvatron to serve him with unquestioning loyalty. Prowl, his brothers, and Optimus soon learn of how Cerebros works and attempt to work around it, when they find the headquarters under attack from the Predacons and Decepticons. While Optimus escapes with Cerebros, Prowl and his brothers get Koji to safety before they set off to join Optimus with the rest of the Autobots for their final battle with Galvatron and his forces. Despite even going into their supercharged forms to fight, the Autobot Brothers are no match for Galvatron's command ship, the Megastar. Only when Wedge tries to fight it alone after being overpowered as Landfill with the rest of the Build Team does Cerebros respond and bring Fortress Maximus into the fight, easily tearing the Megastar apart with his ultimate attack. However, Galvatron survives and drains Fortress Maximus of its energy to use himself. Taking the children of Earth hostage, he forces the Autobots to retreat into the Global Space Bridge, which he then floods by rupturing the tunnel wall so magma flows in. While the Autobots and even Galvatron's forces survive, Optimus and Ultra Magnus decide to face Galvatron alone in the Earth's core, leaving Prowl and the other Autobots behind, where they end up being captured to have their energy siphoned to power Galvatron up further. In the end, thanks to Koji calling on the children of Earth to lend Fortress Maximus strength, he is able to help Omega Prime defeat Galvatron, and Prowl is freed alongside the rest of the Autobots upon Galvatron's defeat. He is last seen disrupting Sideburn's attempts to hit on Kelly's red car again with threatening to have him put in the impound lot with Tow-Line for the night, with both brothers still in their supercharged forms, while Optimus explains that Ultra Magnus and Fortress Maximus are escorting Galvatron and all his forces, sans Sky-Byte, back to Cybertron to be imprisoned for their crimes.
