Damn, Miles. For a skinny ass-kid...(takes off mask) You hit hard.
~ Aaron revealing himself to his nephew Miles.
I know I messed up. I let you down. But we're family.
~ Aaron apologizing to Miles for his actions.

Aaron Davis, better known as the Prowler, is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Rio Morales) of the 2020 action-adventure superhero video game Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and a minor character in its 2023 follow-up, Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

He is a retired thief/mercenary who is also Jefferson Davis' estranged brother and Miles Morales’ uncle. He tried to work as a subway conductor until he discovers his nephew's vigilantism and returns to his Prowler suit to protect him.

He is voiced by Ike Amadi, who also voiced Javik from Mass Effect 3, Knack from the titular video game series, Baranor from Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Fred Radcliff from Fallout 76, Cyrax from Mortal Kombat 11, Azir from Legends of Runeterra, Jax Briggs from Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge and Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Aaron Davis was born in Harlem, New York City around 1978 to unnamed parents, being their second child after their first, Jefferson Davis. The siblings were close during their youth, often mixing beats from noises across the city and playing basketball from time to time. After high school, Aaron turned to a life of crime, with his first job being to mugged a criminal's boss for money. However, Jefferson witnessed the crime and scolded his brother, but decided not to tell their parents about the incident. Jeff continued to cover for his brother for years, but couldn't anymore once he graduated from the police academy and started a family of his own. Aaron told him that he was done with that life, however, but this was a lie so he could remain close with his brother and nephew, Miles Morales.

As he gained infamy in the criminal underworld, Aaron adopted the moniker "The Prowler" and accepted jobs from the likes of Wilson Fisk and Simon Krieger. His notoriety gained the attention of the police, with Jefferson being assigned to the case, putting him at odds with his brother. Once his life of crime caught up to him, Aaron admitted that he was the Prowler, resulting in Jefferson cutting ties with him to prevent Miles from following in his uncle's footsteps.

Marvel's Spider-Man[]

Despite not physically appearing, Aaron is mentioned in reports following Jefferson's death.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales[]

Following his brother's death, Aaron decided to end his criminal career to reunite with his family, becoming a subway worker in Harlem. Unlike most of his family, he quickly deduced that Miles was Spider-Man's partner, noticing his nephew's moves against the Rhino. When the Underground started meddling with the trains, Aaron contacted Miles with the Spider-Man app to deal with the problem. Once the criminals were dealt with, Aaron gave him a one-year free train rides with his name on it, telling his nephew to give him a call if he needs help. He later attended Rio's campaign rally, but later left before the Underground arrive and fought against Roxxon and Miles.

Seeing Miles fight against the Underground, Aaron contacted his nephew, warning him to leave if Roxxon arrived since they were going to blame him. Aaron's words ringed true when Roxxon and Krieger blamed the new Spider-Man for the bridge's destruction, causing the retired thief to return to his previous moniker to protect his nephew. The Prowler started to stalk Miles during his investigation into Phin Mason and the Underground, and revealed himself to his nephew when he infiltrated Roxxon's laboratory. Assisting Miles into finding Phin's phone, he helped the new hero escape from Roxxon's soldiers. Learning that Phin is the Tinkerer, Aaron advised his nephew to manipulate Phin into letting him join the Underground to get more information.

Stressed from his dual life and revealing his secret identity to Phin, Miles contacted his uncle for advice, meeting him at the docks where Aaron told him to make beats from everyday noises. However, Aaron was manipulating his nephew, making a deal with Krieger to capture Phin in exchange to leave Miles unharmed. Once learning of Miles' plan to speak with Phin at Trinity Church, Aaron contacted Krieger, whom ultimately went back on their deal and had Rhino capture the two. Aaron confronted Krieger on breaking the deal, threatening the businessman to expose him for what happened to Rick Mason, but Simon retorts that he would end up in jail alongside him if he did so. Unbeknownst to Aaron, Miles escaped from his confinement with Phin, and overheard his conversation with Krieger.

Later notified of Miles' escape, Aaron captured his nephew when he the latter attempted to reach the Oscorp Science Center, taking him to an abandoned subway tunnel. He then started to argue with Miles about the situation, but the new Spider-Man escaped and defeated the Prowler in combat. Upon his defeat, Aaron apologizes for his actions, but Miles tells him that being family isn't enough and leaves him to stop Phin. With his nephew's words sticking with him, Aaron redeemed himself and protected the citizens of Harlem from Roxxon, allowing Miles to confront his former friend.

After Miles saved Harlem and Phin's sacrifice, Aaron turned himself in to the police, exposing Krieger for his crimes. He was sent to prison, but his time was reduced when he agreed to testify against Krieger and Roxxon. He later contacted Miles weeks later, thanking him for helping him achieve redemption.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2[]

Once released from prison, Aaron turned his focus into reconnecting his family since he retired from his life of crime, tasking Miles in finding prototype technology before Kraven's Hunters could take it. Rio came into contact with Aaron, co-signing a lease so he could live above their apartment. Miles confronted Aaron, believing that he broke his promise when finding schematics on an apartment, but Rio explained the situation. Aaron then thanked his nephew once again before giving a prototype, allowing Miles to use an ability called "Prowler Strike".

Personality[]

This version of Prowler makes a redemption after realizing the cons of his actions late in Miles Morales. His comic book counterpart (despite a change of heart much later), however, was a full-on criminal who didn’t hesitate to manipulate his nephew into helping him get back at a crime boss after realizing that he was the new Spider-Man. Here, everything he does, even betraying Miles to Roxxon, was done out of concern for his nephew and his family's safety. Likewise, Aaron is willing to fight for what he believes is right and to protect his family, even if he has to make a deal with Simon Krieger to keep his nephew safe from Roxxon (which backfires big time when Simon cuts off their deal).

Abilities[]

Aaron has no powers, but is skilled enough to go toe-to-toe with his superhuman nephew. In the last phase of his boss fight, Prowler summons three hard-light holograms of himself that rush the player. It's easy to lose track of which of the four is the real Aaron and which are the holograms, making it easy to combo a hologram and get blind-sided by Aaron's stronger attacks.

Quotes[]

You'd be surprised. People get stupid when they care about someone. Like you're being stupid now.
~ Aaron tormenting Miles.
You throw yourself at enemies you can't beat! You know who else did that?!
~ Aaron to Miles during their fight.
