Puck, also known as the Beast of the End and the Great Spirit of Fire, is a major anti-hero in the 2014 Japanese dark fantasy light novel series Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World, as well as its anime television series & manga adaptations of the same name. He also appears in various tie-in video games, side stories, and short stories. Outside of Re:Zero, Puck is a supporting character in Isekai Quartet, a 2019 comedy crossover anime television series that features characters from several properties of the "Isekai" genre.
Four hundred years ago, the Witch of Greed Echidna created three artificial spirits. Two of these three were the elder brother [Puck and the younger sister Beatrice. Unlike Beatrice, Puck didn't recognise Echidna as his mother and failed to show the affection towards the Witch of Greed that Echidna did. Eventually, Puck abandoned his contract with Echidna in favor of forming a pact with the silver-haired half-elf girl Emilia.
As spirit and contractor, Puck and Emilia forged a bond of friendship that could not be shaken by any other person. Emilia became Puck's entire reason for living to the point that a part of their contract stated that, in the event of Emilia's demise, Puck would try to use his considerable power to destroy the world. With the help of his contractor, Puck was able to defeat the Great Spirit of Fire Melakuera, essentially usurping the fire spirit of his position.
In all media, Puck is voiced by Yumi Uchiyama in Japanese and by Erica Mendez in English dubbing. Mendez's other heroic roles include Gon Freecss in Hunter x Hunter, Megumin in KonoSuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World!, Mash Kyrielight in Fate/Grand Order, Melissa Shield in My Hero Academia, Raphtalia in The Rising of the Shield Hero, Diane in The Seven Deadly Sins, and Nico Yazawa in Love Live!.
Appearance
Puck has a body shape of cat. His fur is primarily grey with silver in certain spots (i.e. tip of the tail). His eyebrows are quite small.
Personality and Traits
Puck is Emilia's mischievous spirit familiar in the form of a cat. Likewise, he thinks of Emilia as his dear daughter and is fiercely protective of her, stating that she is the reason for his existence. If Emilia is harmed in any way, he would get into rage, destroying anything in his way.
