The Lythop Ruler, nicknamed Puntiagudo by Shrike, is a minor protagonist in the animated web series, Monkey Wrench, serving as the tritagonist of the episode "Lythop Liberation".
Biography[]
On a distant planet live the Lythops. They are essentially peaceful, but they know how to defend themselves to an extent. However, they were threatened by a being they refer to as the Striking Sun, who hunts them for her own selfish benefits. Their leader did what he could to ensure their safety. The Striking Sun frequently sent others to capture the Lythops, but the ruler ensured they were unharmed.
Eventually, they encounter a mercenary duo. Shrike and Beebs of Monkey Wrench arrived in their cave. The ruler led his fellow Lythops to capture the intruders. Although they manage to tie them up, the didn't ensure it was tight enough as the duo get free easily with Shrike adoring the ruler for his appearance. While Beebs accidentally steps on a few of the Lythops, they come out no worse for wear, even enjoying the moment.
It's then the duo explain their reason for being there wasn't to capture them for the Striking Sun, but to save them due to their planet being doomed to implode in a few minutes. Horrified, the Lythop ruler listens to them while noticing the crystal on the back of Shrike's head which resembles the Mother Crystal. This gets the Lythops to trust them as they gather into the box the Monkey Wrench duo brought to transport them to safety. While all of the other Lythops enter the box, the ruler chooses to ride on Shrike's shoulder, bonding with him on their way back to Dr. Agness who had given the duo the job to save the Lythops.
Upon reaching Agness though, she promptly takes the box and breaks it open over a grinder, killing all of the Lythops. The duo and the Lythop ruler are horrified with the ruler realizing that Agness is none other than the Striking Sun as Agness reveals her true intentions before attacking the mercs.
As the duo fight Agness, the Lythop panics. Once he notices Agness prepare to dissect Shrike for his crystal though, that's when the Lythop decides enough is enough and protects Shrike with his crystal. There, he offers to serve as a weapon for Shrike. With his help the duo are able to defeat and apprehend Agness once and for all, effectively avenging his brethren.
However, with all of his brethren dead, the Lythop comes out of the fight with his spirit completely crushed. As Agness is taken away L.A.W. to face justice for her crimes, the Lythop is taken for his own good to help find him a new place to call home.
