~ Purple Star explains her motivations for going to the human world. |
Purple Star (퍼플 스타, 紫星), also known as Purple Princess, and Twinkle Purple as a Magical Girl, is the main protagonist of the Rainbow Bubblegem series, being the princess of the Starfish Kingdom. Together with her friends and her fairy companion Pink Star, Star aims to protect both the human world and the underwater world from Black Diamond's forces.
Star is voiced by Jeong Hye Won in the Korean dub, with her Chinese, Indonesian, Russian, and English voices being provided by Xiao Shibou, Wahyu Gita Murti, Polina Avdeenko, and Katherine Clavelo, respectively.
Description[]
Physical Appearance[]
Purple Star has fair skin and wavy purple hair and purple eyes whose pupils contain stars. As with most of the other mermaid Princesses, sans Indigo Keen who has four, Purple Star has three forms: mermaid, human, and magical girl.
In her natural mermaid form, Star has a light purplish-pink tiara and a light blue tank top with pink straps and a yellow-framed star. Her tail is purple with pink fins that resemble three of the points on a star.
As with the other mermaid Princesses, Star gains a human disguise when she goes on land. This gives her a pink t-shirt beneath a light-blue dungaree, the latter of which has a pink star. As footwear, she wears purple shoes over white socks with pink outlines. On her head is a light-blue headband.
When she powers up into her Magical Girl form, Star's eyes gain rainbows, and she has pink and blue highlights in her hair. She has a golden headband that has a light purplish-pink ribbon and a purple dress with a rainbow star, purple gloves, and purple boots with rainbow outlines. In this form, she wields a wand known as the Star Stick, from which she can launch bubble projectiles.
Personality[]
Purple Star is an upbeat, friendly girl who loves making friends. Not content with her home life, Star is very curious and loves to explore, although she can be a bit of a klutz, which caused her to break the franchise's titular Rainbow Bubblegem (for which she got a scolding from her father the Starfish King). While she may not be the smartest, Star is still capable as a leader, and she has the potential to be the next Guardian of the Sea.
Powers and Abilities[]
In her magical girl form, Purple Star can create bubble projectiles with her wand, which is called the "Star Stick." The projectile has three levels of strength:
- Bubble Pang is the weakest level, which manifests as a single bubble projectile.
- Bubble Sparkle is an enhanced Bubble Pang variant where Star fires multiple bubbles.
- Star uses the last level, called "Clean Bubble," as a special finisher, where she traps Blob monsters in purifying bubbles.
Star is also able to open portals with the Star Stick, which she uses as a dodge option and/or ambushes.
Trivia[]
- The episode Twins Stickers shows that Purple Star can eat quickly without choking.
- Star is bears a slight resemblance in personality to Princess Ariel from Walt Disney's version of The Little Mermaid, as they both have a fascination for the human world and collect human objects.
- Quite ironically, Star activates her powers second, despite being the main protagonist. This may be because she had difficulty doing so.
- Bang! Out to the World is the only episode where Star (or anyone for that matter) does not transform into a Magical Girl.
