Aura is present in all living things, except Grimm. See, you have to release the Aura that sleeps inside you.
~ Pyrrha teaching Jaune about Aura.

Pyrrha Nikos is a supporting character in the anime television series RWBY: Ice Queendom, an alternate timeline spinoff of the American animated webseries RWBY. She is a Huntress-in-training at Beacon Academy and a member of Team JNPR.

She is voiced by Megumi Toyoguchi, who also voiced both Pyrrha and Kali Belladonna in the Japanese dub of RWBY, as well as voiced Aqua in Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, Winry Rockbell in the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist anime, and Yukari Takeba in Persona 3. In the English dub, she is voiced by her original voice actress Jen Brown.

Biography[]

Pyrrha was born in Atlas, and trained as a Huntress at an early age. She graduated at the top of her class in Sanctum Academy, and quickly became recognized for her vast skill in combat. She also served as the mascot for a cereal called Pumpkin Pete's Marshmallow Flakes for a time. Later on she moved to Vale to attend the prestigious Beacon Academy.

On the airship ride to Beacon, Pyrrha catches the attention of Weiss Schnee, who recognizes her. Weiss attempts to team up with Pyrrha, but they are interrupted by Jaune Arc. Weiss is angered that Jaune does not know who Pyrrha is, though she is taken with him, partially due to his confidence and partially due to him not idolizing her and seeing her as above him.

The students are then informed that they will be dropped off at the Emerald Forest for initiation. The new students are sent into the Emerald Forest to retrieve artifacts at a hidden temple. They are also informed that the first individual they make eye contact with will become their teammate for the rest of their time at the Academy. Jaune is sent flying, but is saved by Pyrrha, who teams up with him. The two make their way to a temple and gather their relic, and are joined by Ruby Rose, Weiss, Blake Belladonna, Yang Xiao Long, Nora Valkyrie, and Lie Ren. They are chased by a Nevermore and Death Stalker Grimm, and Jaune leads Pyrrha, Nora, and Ren to fight it.

Following the initiation, Professor Ozpin sorts the students into teams based on the relic they chose. Jaune, Pyrrha, Nora, and Ren are sorted into Team JNPR, with Jaune named the leader. Pyrrha attends classes, as well as works with Jaune outside of school hours. She unlocks his Aura for him, and helps him train.

However, soon after, Jaune is found possessed by a Nightmare Grimm. This Grimm traps people within their own minds, feeding on their insecurities and Aura until they die. Teams RWBY and JNPR get help, and Professor Shion Zaiden arrives to rid Jaune of the possession. Pyrrha is the first to volunteer to help by being linked with Jaune's mind and fighting the possession from within. Nora and Ren join in, entering Jaune's nightmare where he is reduced to a crying child taunted by his own armor and weapons. Pyrrha helps fight off the Grimm, from within, causing it to flee and be captured. Shion believes that Jaune's currently weak Aura and lack of Semblance made it easier for the Grimm to be expelled, as it was unable to feed on the Aura, unaware that Weiss is also possessed.

The Nightmare Grimm attacks Weiss, trapping her in her own mind. Team RWBY are sent in to recuse her. Some time later, Team JNPR goes to check on their friends. Jaune laments that he wishes he were possessed again instead of Weiss, willing to take the pain so she would not have to as well as being easier to cure. Pyrrha is touched by his compassion, but realizes that Jaune has definite feelings for Weiss.

While in Weiss' dream, Ruby comes across dream versions of Pyrrha and her team as Weiss perceives them. In her dream, they are portrayed as "sillies" that have to be imprisoned to keep order. Unlike the rest of her team, however, Pyrrha is depicted as an eloquent singer who performs inside her cell, while the others are portrayed and mewing lunatics. As explained by Shion, the versions of people that Team RWBY encounter in the dream are exaggerated expressions of how Weiss perceives them, and not accurate to her true feelings. Pyrrha later hears about how the version of Weiss inside her mind, dubbed Negative Weiss, is far more strict and cruel than her real-life counterpart.

After another failed attempt to save Weiss, Ruby speaks to Team JNPR about what they experienced. She, Blake, and Yang realize they can change Weiss' dream and get what remains of her resistance to fight back against the Grimm. They develop a plan, and want Jaune to go in and aid them. Shion reveals that because Jaune was recently possessed, the Nightmare will continue to see him that way and ignore his presence. However, if he gets too close to the Grimm, he will experience allergy-like symptoms and could die if he gets too close. Jaune goes into the dream with Ruby, Yang, and Blake anyway, with Pyrrha, Nora, and Ren standing by watching.

While in the dream, Jaune meets and frees the dream versions of his teammates, as well as dozens of child versions of Weiss, which represent the childhood feelings she locked away for being too "silly". Dream Pyrrha leads Jaune to a yellow relic, which he retrieves and gives to Ruby. Jaune leads the freed "sillies" to attack and distract Weiss' security force, but begins experiencing symptoms again. Dream Pyrrha aids him, giving him a cloth to clean himself. When the "sillies" grow out of control, as well as controlled by the Grimm, Dream Pyrrha is unaffected and Jaune brings her with him in attempting to get to safety. Negative Weiss intervenes, fighting back the "Sillies", and then uses magic to transform the central tower into a giant fighting robot version of her grandfather, Big Nicholas, and attack the invading forces. She and the other Sillies are briefly recaptured, but Jaune amanges to break them out.

Dream Pyrrha accompanies Jaune as he fights back the Grimm-controlled pieces of Weiss' dream. When Jaune is about to be overwhelmed by a Dream version of Weiss' father Jacques, Dream Pyrrha and the Sillies aid him in fighting it off. Team RWBY manages to free Weiss, causing the dream to fade. Dream Pyrrha vanishes with the dream.

In the real world, Pyrrha is the first to greet Weiss as she wakes up.

Pyrrha bids Shion farewell, then goes and trains with Jaune. She trains his throughout the break between semesters, and on the day before the new semester begins, engages in a food fight against Team RWBY.

Appearance[]

Pyrrha is a very tall, muscular girl with fair skin and extremely long red hair that she commonly wears in a ponytail. She has green eyes, which she often compliments with green eye shadow. She wears an armored brown and gold overbust corset, red mini-skirt, red sash with brown belt, elbow-length brown gloves, bronze greaves and a bracer, and browm heeled boots. She wears various accessories such as a gold plate bearing her emblem on her waist, a gold circlet with green gemstones, a bronze bracelet, and a bronze gorget.

Powers and Abilities[]

Pyrrha is a master combatant, utilizing her vast knowledge of combat strategy and opponents' weaknesses to excel in fights. She uses advanced martial arts and acrobatics to perform incredibly fast and varied attacks.

She is also a master marksman, able to throw her weapon Miló, in spear form, so precisely that it can pierce a person's hood to a tree, while they are in motion, hundreds of feet in the distance. She can also use Miló's rifle mode for more ranged attacks, which she is again a master marksman. She also knows how to utilize her shield, Akoúo̱, for both solid defense and both melee and ranged attacks. Pyrrha is also extremely strong, able to smash down trees with her shield and propel others into the air.

Like all creatures with a soul, Pyrrha also has possesses an Aura, a physical defense generated by her soul. This durable field is invisible except when it is overtaxed, where it flashes red. Her Aura defends her from attack and can even heal minor wounds, but if it takes too much damage it will become depleted and require time to return.

Though it has yet to be shown in the series proper, the canon series shows that Pyrrha possesses a Semblance, a power unique to her drawn from her soul. In RWBY, her Semblance, called Polarity, allows her to control metal via magnetism.

The version of Pyrrha inside Weiss' dream displays little in the way of combat prowess or special abilities. She is entirely mute other than when she sings, which is done so in a beautiful voice.
