The secret to leading a happy life in this world... is that ignorance is bliss.
~ Quanxi's philosophy on life.

Quanxi (Chinese: 泉溪, Quán Xī) is a major character in the Chainsaw Man series, initially serving as the secondary antagonist of the International Assassins arc. She is said to be the very first devil hunter, being Kishibe's former partner before quitting public safety to become a mercenary. She and her four girlfriends, are tasked with killing Denji and obtaining his heart by the Chinese government.

Quanxi reappears in Part 2 Academy Saga. Two years Makima's death and defeat, she has since returned to working as a Public Safety Devil Hunters and helps to rescue Denji and Nayuta from the Chainsaw Man Church cult.

Appearance[]

Quanxi appears as a tall woman with cream pony-tailed hair and an eye patch that covers her right eye with the other eye being brown. In her casual outfit, she wears a black tank top, a large white belt long pants and boots while also having three sheathes on her back to hold her three swords. At one point, she also wears a brown unbuttoned coat with a white shirt tucked inside of it and a black skirt. In her hybrid form, she appears completely naked, with a pointy metallic featureless head with two horns shaped like a bow, as well as a neck adorned with several spikes. Her arms also become metallic, each one bearing a spike-adorned crossbow.

Personality[]

Quanxi comes across as a laid-back and seemingly indifferent individual, often prioritizing leisure and pleasure, such as spending intimate time with her four girlfriends, over other pursuits. She typically maintains a stoic and calm demeanor, appearing emotionally detached from the world around her. This attitude is rooted in her belief that ignorance brings happiness—the less attention one pays to the chaos of the world, the more content they become, regardless of past hardships. Despite her apparent apathy, Quanxi deeply cares for her girlfriends, demonstrating a strong protective instinct and a willingness to ensure their well-being. When in combat, Quanxi reveals a vastly different side: she becomes a highly skilled, efficient, and deadly assassin who relentlessly pursues her objectives. She does however have a soft spot for fiends as she asked Power politely to stand down while she held one of her girlfriends at knife point.

Biography[]

Background[]

Born around the 1940s, Quanxi is considered the first officially recognized Devil Hunter at some point she became contracted with the Bow Devil and became a hybrid. In her early years, she worked alongside Kishibe, who harbored romantic feelings for her, which she continually rejected. Eventually, she came out as a lesbian, prompting Kishibe to give up on pursuing her. Later, she left the Public Safety Devil Hunters and moved to China, becoming an assassin. There, she met and formed close bonds with several fiends—Pingtsi, Cosmo, Long, and another unnamed, patchwork-appearing fiend—who later became her romantic partners.

International Assassins Arc[]

Quanxi is first shown in bed with her girlfriends. Tasked by the Chinese military with assassinating Denji to obtain his heart, she requested that her girlfriends receive basic education as her reward. While traveling to Japan for the mission, a minor altercation resulted in Cosmo hypnotizing a man to say only "Halloween."

The group spent time sightseeing and relaxing, deciding to delay their mission. However, after learning of Santa Claus' involvement, they postponed the assassination again. Eventually, Quanxi launched a surprise assault on the department store where Denji and other Devil Hunters were located. She moved with incredible speed, decimating both puppets and hunters, and knocking Aki Hayakawa and the Angel Devil unconscious. Only Hirofumi Yoshida attempted to stop her, but failed until Kishibe captured two of her girlfriends.

During a conversation with Kishibe, Quanxi inquired about her other girlfriends, who had fled. Kishibe warned her about Makima and proposed an alliance to overthrow her, but Quanxi declined and recounted a past crush on a reporter. When Aldo, one of the Three Brothers, tried to shoot Denji, Kishibe intervened, and Quanxi seized the moment to fight him, ultimately being thrown from a building.

As events escalated, Quanxi and her girlfriends became entangled in battles with other Devil Hunters. She overpowered Yoshida but was eventually sent to Hell by Santa Claus. There, she proposed a temporary truce, and Pingtsi warned the others about the formidable Darkness Devil. Quanxi and her girlfriends were brutally attacked by it. Quanxi later returned to Earth with Makima's help. Her silent, unnamed girlfriend retrieved her severed head and transformed her into a Crossbow Hybrid by inserting an arrow into her eye. Quanxi, now filled with rage, joined forces with Denji to defeat Santa Claus. After a brutal fight, she used Cosmo's power to overwhelm Santa Claus with universal knowledge, reducing her to a broken shell that could only say "Halloween." Makima later appeared to punish Quanxi and her girlfriends. Despite Quanxi's plea for mercy, Makima executed them all.

Control Devil Arc[]

Although killed, Quanxi was later revealed to have survived due to her status as a hybrid. Alongside Reze and Samurai Sword , she was brainwashed by Makima into fighting Chainsaw Man. Under her control, Quanxi acted to protect Makima and attacked Chainsaw Man, but was ultimately killed in battle, her body left severely mutilated.

Chainsaw Man Church Arc[]

Following Makima's death, Quanxi returned to her original personality and resumed work as a Public Safety Devil Hunter in Japan. She confronted Miri Sugo, Whip Woman, and Spear Man to prevent them from attacking a park. After reporting to her superiors, she helped launch a raid on the Chainsaw Man Church, rescuing Denji, Nayuta, and Fumiko Mifune. She fought off enemies while the others escaped.

Aging Devil Arc[]

A week later, Quanxi was stationed at the Tokyo Devil Detention Center to prevent an attempted rescue of Denji by Yoru, "Fami", the Nail Fiend, and Samurai Sword. Public Safety used the corpses of her girlfriends as leverage to ensure her obedience. She defeated Samurai Sword, subdued the others, and prepared to finish the job but hesitated upon seeing Denji. Remembering a promise to Kishibe not to fight Chainsaw Man, she allowed the group to escape and asked Yoru to fake her defeat by decapitating her.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Martial Arts and Combat Proficiency: Quanxi is an exceptionally skilled hand-to-hand combatant, capable of going toe-to-toe with elite fighters like Kishibe and Yoshida. Her raw physical strength is also formidable—she once overpowered Kishibe with ease, throwing him out of a window.
  • Agility and Reflexes: Quanxi possesses superhuman agility and reflexes. She can swiftly dodge incoming attacks and has even been shown to stop a flying knife with her bare fingers.
  • Bilingualism: As an international assassin, Quanxi is fluent in both Chinese and Japanese, enabling her to operate seamlessly across borders.
  • Swordsmanship: Armed with multiple swords, Quanxi is a deadly swordswoman. Her mastery of swordplay becomes even more lethal when combined with her Devil-enhanced abilities.
  • Superspeed: Quanxi can move at extraordinary speeds. She often uses this ability in tandem with her swordsmanship, dashing through enemies and slicing them apart. This high-velocity combat tends to break her swords, prompting her to carry spares.
  • Hybrid Transformation: As the Crossbow Hybrid, Quanxi can partially transform into the Crossbow Devil to access demonic powers. She activates this transformation by removing an arrow embedded beneath her eyepatch.
    • Arrow Projection: In her Hybrid form, Quanxi gains crossbow-like weapons in her arms that can fire multiple powerful arrows. These projectiles are strong enough to punch clean, circular holes through her targets.
    • Regeneration: Quanxi can rapidly heal from injuries by consuming blood. This regenerative ability allows her to recover from severe trauma, including decapitation and being sliced in half.
    • Immortality: As a hybrid, Quanxi is effectively immortal. She can recover from otherwise fatal injuries, and the only known way to kill her is by destroying her Devil heart. She also appears not to age physically, as she looks unchanged from her appearance three decades ago—though it is unclear if this is directly related to her Devil powers.
