The truth is, our weakness is the same as anyone's. It's people. The people we care about. So I say, cut them loose. For your good and for theirs. That way you're really bulletproof.
~ Queen Maeve.
Twenty-three year old, bright-eyed, ass you could bounce a quarter off of. I really did want to make a difference. I really did care. I was just like you. And then, I started giving pieces of myself away and... I guess I gave away everything.
~ Queen Maeve.
The first time your prissy ass showed up at the tower, crying in that bathroom, you saved me. The truth is you... you don't need me anymore. I could jump. But you can f**king fly.

She was granted superhuman abilities by her father, who would have her perform in pageants and competitions to earn money. He would then gamble the money away at Circus Circus, but her relationship with him is unknown. At some point in her youth, she became a student a Vought's "hero college" where she eventually gained the title "Queen Maeve". Later on, Shaw was drafted into Vought-International's new superhero team the Seven under the leadership of Homelander.

At some point during her career, Queen Maeve saved a school bus that resulted in every bone in her arm being broken. She would began a romantic relationship with a woman named Elena, but later left the relationship when she moved on with Homelander. However, their dynamic soon fell apart as she became terrified of his murderous nature, and was often under this thumb. Maeve's idealism also soured as years went, feeling that she wasn't a hero anymore as she live in fear of Homelander and acted as a product of Vought. She also admitted to being an alcoholic at one point, but turned to sobriety before the events of the series.

Season One[]

Queen Maeve and Homelander make their first appearance stopping several criminals in an armored truck, with Maeve stopping the vehicle with her own body. When in the bathroom, Maeve notices the newest member Starlight in distress, as gives her some comfort before leaving. She continues to remain at Homelander's side in front of the press, and later assists in stopping a sniper, but acts as a his accomplice when he murders the man in cold blood. When the airplane Flight 37 is hijacked by terrorists, Maeve and Homelander work together to stop them. During the mission, one of the hijackers kills the copilot, and Homelander uses his heat vision to kill him, destroying the controls in the process. Though she wants to save as many as they can, Homelander refuses, rejecting her suggestion to lift the plane or carry a many people before it crashes.

As a result, Homelander decides to instead abandon the passengers to their deaths, and convinces Maeve to join him despite wanting to save two children. Maeve becomes grief-stricken over the incident, which is covered as a mission gone awry by Homelander, who tells the press that this incident should inspire the government to allow supes into the military. She returns to Elena to rekindle their romance, but leaves when the latter rejects her advances. Maeve continues to suffer from guilt, relapsing into alcoholism and sees how her idol Starlight has started to believe her heroism was just written by Vought. During this time, Homelander has become suspicious following the death of Translucent, and manages to piece that the Boys are behind the events.

At a meeting, Homelander reveals to the team about the Boys, and accuses Starlight of conspiring with them since all of the recent events happened when she joined. Maeve then stands up to Homelander, managing to calm him down and lose his suspicions on Starlight. Following this, Maeve broke up with Homelander due to his growing instability and previous actions, and wanting to rekindle her romance with Elena.

Season Two[]

After breaking up with Homelander, Maeve proceeds to focus on restart with Elena, but becomes afraid that he will learn of their relationship. During this time, the Seven has introduced the supe Stormfront into the group following Translucent's death. Her fears are proven true, as Homelander exposes Maeve's sexuality to the public during a talk show. She confronts him out of fear of what he did to Elena, but Homelander simply states that he set her free. Vought then rebrand Maeve to be portrayed as a lesbian who struggles with her sexuality, but Elena reveals that Shaw is bisexual. Maggie agrees to play along out of fear that Homelander will kill Elena, but becomes a victim of Homelander's humiliation, abuse and control.

Wanting to break free from his control, Queen Meave meets with the Deep and makes a deal, wanting to get the video recording of Flight 37 in exchange of improving his image. Elena later confronts Maeve over the video, explaining that she doesn't blame her for what happened on the plane. Having another breaking point, Maeve sleeps with bodybuilders and is criticized by Ashley Barrett. She later encounters Annie with Hughie, as they ask for their help to fight against Vought. Maeve declines, feeling that she isn't a hero. Later on, Stormfront is exposed as being Nazi, thus ruining her reputation, and Maeve becomes angered at the recent news.

Wanting to do the right thing, Maeve tracks down the Boys and assists Annie and the Female in fighting Stormfront, who escapes to find Homelander's son Ryan. Shaw manages to find Homelander preparing to attack Billy Butcher and stops him, showing the Flight 37 video. She proceeds to blackmail him into leaving her and Elena alone, but also let Butcher and Ryan go and clear Starlight's name. Knowing of his need to be loved by everyone, Maeve succeeds in getting Homelander to bend to her demands, thus putting under control for the time being.

Season Three[]

A year following Stormfront's defeat, Maeve starts to fear of Homelander's growing instability since he lost everything, and decides to help the Boys find a way to stop him. Becoming a double agent, Maeve meets with Butcher and gives him V24, modified Compound V that gives the user powers for twenty-four hours. Her fears of Homelander are proven after his outburst at his birthday, where he gains the recognition of the public and later removes Edgar from his position. While having her team leader underestimate her, Maeve continues to train in preparation to fight against Homelander. When Starlight attempts to start a coup against him, the plan backfires when A-Train tells Homelander, whom then proceeds to kill the newest member Supersonic and threatens Starlight that he will murder everyone she loves.

Queen Maeve continues to train and give Butcher more doses of V24, and later has a thirst with him after hearing his rant against supes. At the Seven's tower, Maeve is confronted by Homelander on betraying him, as he can smell Butcher all over her. During the confrontation, she is kidnapped by Black Noir and taken to a secret facility underneath Vought's building. It's later revealed that Homelander intends to harvest her eggs to make children of his own, but Maeve remains undeterred after seeing that Soldier Boy has frightened him. Later on, Maeve is transported to another facility by Ashley, but she awakens during the travel and escapes from her captors. Meeting with the Boys, Maeve goes with Butcher and Soldier Boy to confront Homelander, as the others are placed in a safe for their safety.

During the confrontation, Homelander reveals his son Ryan to Soldier Boy, as the latter is his father, and explains that he wants him to join him as a family. Soldier Boy rebukes him, considering his son a disappointment before attempting to kill him. Things goes into disarray when Ryan saves Homelander and is knocked unconscious by Soldier Boy, thus making Butcher change sides to protect Ryan from Soldier Boy. Refusing to relent from her goal, Queen Maeve fights Homelander, managing to make him bleed before seeing that Soldier Boy is about to explode the building. Wanting to save her friends, Maeve tackles him out of the building and survives the fall, but loses her power as a result. With Ashley erasing the video of her survival, Maeve is able to live a normal life with Elena, and tells Starlight that she doesn't need her anymore.
