I'm sorry to report to you that Jabun can no longer be found here. Just look at how this place has been torn to pieces... I suppose this, too, is the work of the shadow in Forsaken Fortress. But fear not! Jabun was able to flee this island before it was attacked. He is in a safer abode now. Would you like to guess where that abode may be? ...On the island where you were born. On Outset.
~ Quill

Quill is a supporting character who makes his first appearance in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. He is a mail carrier who travels throughout the Great Sea to deliver letters to people whom are bing mailed to. He is a friend of Link's and the Rito look up to him.

History[]

Quill is first seen when Link and his sister Aryll are watching him through the latter's telescope, delivering a letter in a red mailbox. Once Link zooms in completely, Quill will look up and becomes agitated by something, prompting Aryll to look up and in shock, tells Link to look up as well. They find the Helmaroc King carrying a young girl over their island and trying to evade the pursuing pirates, but is struck in the face, making it drop the girl into the forest, leaving Link to go into the forest to make sure the girl was okay.

After Aryll was kidnapped by the Helmaroc King, Tetra was against Link coming along to save his sister, until Quill intervenes and tells them that Aryll wouldn't have gotten swept away if they haven't come along. When Tetra questions him, Quill explains that through his many mail deliveries, he heard countless rumors about young girls, specifically ones with long pointed ears are being abducted and aren't seen again. He makes a point that the giant bird mistook Aryll for Tetra and ended up taking her instead. He adds that Link also protected her from the Bokoblins in the forest and tells of the location where Aryll is imprisoned: The Forsaken Fortress. Quill convinces Tetra and the pirates to give Link some assistance in getting his sister back.

Quill is later seen on Dragon Roost Island after Link fails to save Aryll and the other two girls. He notes that he came a long way and hears the news of his unsuccessful rescue mission. He assures him that she will hang in there and invites him to meet with their Rito Chieftain and let him know he is coming as they have a problem of their own before flying off. Link meets with the Chieftain, who is consulting a Rito about Valoo's rage. As the Chieftain explains the situation to Link, Quill suggests that Link would help the closed-off Komali come out of his shell and open up about his fears and anxiety. After the Chieftain requests Link to head up to the second floor to gain his letter from Medli, Quill gives Link an extra Delivery Bag which would be used for various purposes before flying off. If Link helps Medli get to the ledge and returns to the hallway where he met the rest of the Rito, Quill will comment that a group of monsters have abducted Medli, or someone who looks like her, and hopes that it wasn't actually her. He is seen when Medli was telling everyone what was going on with Valoo at the same time the clouds surrounding the volcano vanished.

Once Link heads to Great Fish Isle to visit Jabun, it was already demolished and Ganon's Curse takes effect, bringing on endless darkness and rainstorms, and they are left to wonder what happened to the water spirit. Quill arrives and states that he was looking for him and he reports that Jabun can no longer be found here given that the island was broken apart and believes it to be the work of the mastermind at the Forsaken Fortress. He assures him that Jabun caught wind of Ganon's impending attack and managed to escape before it was destroyed and has relocated to a safe abode, which is Outset Island. He adds that even if he did go to Outset right away, he still won't see Jabun as he was in a cave behind the island behind the stone slab that would need to be broken down, which not even Tetra's pirates would get through with their mighty ship. Quill tells Link that the pirates would know something on how to get passed the slab blocking the entrance, but they wouldn't share any information with him if he were to ask them. He is unnerved by the island's current state and Valoo being right about the events that happened and called the island cursed. Before leaving, he tells Link that he should not stay here any longer than he has to, but it is his decision, and he considers his mission to be complete before flying off.

Quill is last seen saving Link as Komali saves Tetra from Ganondorf as Valoo proceeds to burn down the ship, though Ganondorf managed to escape with minimal harm. As Link is concerned over Tetra's condition, Quill assures him that Tetra has only lost consciousness and Komali telling him that Aryll is safe with the pirates.
