Rachel Carruthers is a character in the Halloween series and the deuteragonist in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and a supporting character in Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers.

She was portrayed by Ellie Cornell.

History

Rachel was born in 1971 to Richard Carruthers and Darlene Carruthers in the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois. It is known that Laurie Strode babysat Rachel several times when she was a little girl and that she and her parents often spent holidays with Rachel's grandmother in Cleveland. In December 1987, Laurie and her husband died in an automobile accident and left their daughter Jamie Lloyd with the Carruthers.

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers

At 4:00 AM on Monday, October 31, 1988, Rachel sees Jamie is again wide awake in the living room with their dog Sundae. Jamie asks if Rachel loves her like a real sister. Rachel answers that they are not real sister but that doesn't mean she loves her any less and puts Jamie to bed along with Sundae.

The next morning, after the original babysitter breaks her ankle, Rachel has to babysit Jamie. Rachel complains about having to cancel her date with her boyfriend Brady and babysit Jamie, not knowing Jamie is right behind her listening and walks upstairs. Rachel apologizes for her actions and offers to take Jamie to get ice cream and Jamie feels much better.

Later, that day, Rachel, riding in Lindsey Wallace's car, comes to pick up Jamie from school and take her to get ice cream, but Jamie insists on going trick-or-treating and they go to Vincent's drug store to buy a costume. As soon as they get there, Jamie goes to find a costume while Rachel and Brady make out. Rachel informs Brady of her babysitting duties and Brady quickly gets upset and tells Rachel that he will call her later. Rachel then hears glass breaking and goes to check up on Jamie. She is glad to see that Jamie was not hurt but they quickly leave the store after buying Jamie's costume and go home.

When night comes, Rachel's parents leave and Jamie goes up to her room to change in her costume. By the time Jamie was ready, she and Rachel walk out of the house to go trick-or-treating. When they go to Kelly Meeker's house, Rachel sees Kelly and then sees Brady is with her. Upset that Brady just moved on to the next person, Rachel tries to quickly leave and Brady runs after her to try to explain himself. Rachel doesn't want to hear his excuses but loses Jamie in the process of stopping to talk with Brady.

She looks through the neighborhood for Jamie, who was doing the same as she was looking for Rachel. They eventually reunite and Rachel tells Jamie to never run off on her own again. Dr. Samuel Loomis and Sheriff Ben Meeker arrive and tell them to get inside the car. They take the girls to the Meeker home and tell them to go to an upstairs bedroom. Brady later comes to check up on them and ask what is going on. Rachel tells him what is going on and a brief history of Myers. He leaves the room while Rachel lays down with Jamie until she falls asleep.

She then goes to talk with Kelly about what she was doing with Brady. Rachel gets upset when she learns Kelly doesn't really care and when Kelly tells her to wise up or Brady won't be the last man she loses to another woman, Rachel pours some coffee on her shirt. Later, when she went to find Deputy Logan, she finds him dead, along with Kelly Meeker who was pinned to the wall with a shotgun by Michael Myers. She goes upstairs to get Jamie, only to find that she is missing.

Later, Rachel finds Jamie and they escape while Brady stalls Michael enough for them to escape, eventually leading to his death by Michael. The girls barricade the stairs and break through the window and climb on the roof, with Michael chasing after them and attempting to kill them. Rachel ties Jamie to a wire, intending to lower her down, but Michael attacks her and Rachel dodges it losing the wire, and Jamie manages to lower herself down, but Rachel falls off the edge unconscious. Jamie tries to wake Rachel up, but to no avail, but as soon as Michael appears, Jamie runs away screaming for help and Rachel soon wakes up and follows Jamie, who is with Dr. Loomis and Michael to the school where Jamie is almost killed by Michael and Rachel attacks Michael with a fire extinguisher.

They run out of the elementary school and find Earl Ford and his gang who take the girls in their truck and out of Haddonfield. The girls think they are now safe but are unaware that Michael is hiding underneath the truck. Michael manages to kill everyone except Rachel and Jamie. Rachel is forced to push Earl's body out of the car and take over driving. She tells Jamie to hide under the seat while she attempts to get Michael off the truck. She finally steps on the brakes, which sends Michael flying into the street. He gets back up and Rachel accelerates the truck and hits him, sending him flying into a field. Rachel tells Jamie to stay in the truck, but Jamie gets out of the truck and goes over to investigate Michael's body and grabs his hand, making him conscious. Rachel tells Jamie to get away from him as he gets back up. Ben Meeker tells Jamie to get down as the police repeatedly shoot at Michael, making him fall into an abandoned mine shaft, that then falls on him.

The cops take Rachel and her sister home, knowing that even though they have survived the night, they would never forget it. Darlene takes Jamie upstairs to get her cleaned up while Rachel stays down with Richard. Moments later, Rachel hears her mother scream and runs upstairs to see Jamie covered in blood in horror, holding a pair of bloody scissors.

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers

As Jamie is now placed in Haddonfield Children's Clinic, Rachel now visits her daily, sometimes taking her friends Tina Williams and Samantha Thomas along with her. She later visited her early in the morning, along with Tina and Rachel's dog, Max, and Rachel also presents Jamie her pink princess costume for Halloween. She tells Jamie she'll be gone for two days as her parents send Jamie love. Suddenly, someone throws a rock through the window and Dr. Loomis reads the note on it saying "The evil child must die!". When she leaves, she tells Loomis how guilty she is for leaving Jamie alone for two days.

Later, Rachel is taking a shower as she is getting ready for her upcoming trip with her parents. She doesn't know that Michael is stalking her as Max is barking at him. She receives a phone call from Dr. Loomis to check on Max as Jamie senses Michael at Rachel's house. Loomis tells Rachel to go to the neighbors and call the police, but later, Deputies Nick Ross and Tom Farrah arrived, checked the house and told Rachel that nothing seemed wrong. She later called Jamie to tell her that everything was fine and that she loved her.

Rachel went into her room to get some clothes when she heard Max barking yet again, she checked up on him and then heard a glass breaking. When she went into the room, she comes across a shattered glass of a picture frame of Jamie and it also had blood on it and when Rachel turned around, she saw Michael with a pair of scissors and stabs Rachel with them in the chest, killing her. Her corpse is later seen in Judith Myers' house, along with the other dead bodies, Max, and Tina's boyfriend Mike.
