~ Ramonda's famous catchphrase |
“ | I am Queen! of the most powerful nation in the world and my entire family is gone! HAVE I NOT GIVEN EVERYTHING!? | „ |
~ Ramonda's most famous quote |
Queen Ramonda is a supporting character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, being a supporting character in the 2018 superhero film Black Panther and the deuteragonist of its 2022 sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
She is the queen of the Kingdom of Wakanda, the wife of the late King T'Chaka, and the mother of the late King T'Challa and Princess Shuri. Following the death of her son, Ramonda took over as the official ruler of Wakanda, protecting the nations from those who seek its resources, especially from the Untied States. This would later lead to a conflict with the Kingdom of Talokan, who wishes to use Wakanda resources to fight against the surface world.
She was portrayed by Angela Basstt, who also portrayed Amanda Waller from Green Lantern (2011 movie), Lynne Jacobs from the Has Fallen series, and Rena Devereaux from Boyz in the Hood.
Personality[]
Queen Ramonda was a stern and hard-willed ruler, but a polite and caring woman, who deeply loved and cared for both her family and the people of Wakanda. Despite her status as the Queen Mother, she did not consider other Wakandans as inferior, as shown by her treating Nakia and Okoye as equals. She also was very loyal to her family, and will do everything in her power to help support and protect her children. She was also shown to love her husband T'Chaka very much, and still mourns him.
Ramonda was also a brave and confident woman, never once showing any ounce of fear and was willing to stand against those who were far more powerful than her, as best seen when she stood unfazed by Namor and his threats. She also proved herself to be cunning, as she was quickly aware of the other nations' conspiracy to take Vibranium following T'Challa's death, so she sent the Dora Milaje to subdue the French mercenaries and bring them back, to prove that even if Wakanda mourns for T'Challa, they are still as strong as ever.
However, despite her noble qualities, the immense grief of losing her husband and later on her son clouded her judgement and led her to be quite stern and harsh towards others, especially when it came to the welfare of her family and Wakanda, as best seen when Okoye lost Shuri to the Talokanil, Ramonda immediately stripped her of her rank and status despite their friendship. Another reason for this is because deep down, Ramonda has resentment towards Okoye, as well as the elders, for supporting Killmonger after he took the throne, despite his vile actions, showing that while she could be forgiving, she could also harbor some resentment towards anyone who wrong her and her family.
