Ran is a former antagonist turned heroine of One Piece. She is a member of the Kuja Pirates.
She is voiced by Umeko Shoji in Japanese and Clarine Harp in English.
Overview[]
Ran is a member of Kuja Pirates who works under the current ruler, Boa Hancock. She initially started out as an enemy to Monkey D. Luffy when she and the Kujas mistook that he invaded their island, Amazon Lily. This was until Hancock pardoned this misunderstanding (after Luffy covered Boa Sandersonia's back and revealed to punch a Celestial Dragon in Sabaody Archipelago), Ran and the Kujas redeemed themselves towards Luffy. During the Banquet, Ran and the other Kujas initial were going to kill Luffy (for seemingly upsetting Hancock which is another misunderstanding) until when he made funny faces causing Ran and the other Kujas to laugh in such amusement when no longer having any attempts to kill Luffy anymore. Ran and the Kujas now worships Luffy and stretching his rubbery body for 20 golds as their new favorite hobby.
After Luffy managed to convince Hancock to help him when learning his brother, Portgas D. Ace is going to be execute at the Summit War, Ran and the Kujas brought Hancock to the Marines just so Luffy rescue Ace. After Ace's death and Luffy, Hancock contacted Ran and the Kuja Tribe to bring Luffy back to their island for his safety from the World Government (now that his identity as the son of the Revolutionary Dragon was revealed). After Luffy ranged the Ox bell, Ran and the Kujas still stretching Luffy's rubbery skin as usual.
After timeskip, Hancock and the Kuja hold off the Marines who were sent to capture the returned Straw Hats allowing them to escape to Fish-Man Island.
After Hancock lost her title as a Warlord due to the heinous actions of both Crocodile and Doflamingo, Ran and the Kuja are under attacked by the Marines (who are attempted to capture Boa Hancock). Not only that, they are also attacked by Blackbeard and his crew (who are attempted to kill Hancock and steal her devil fruit). Fortunately, Hancock, Ran and the other Kujas are saved by Silvers Rayleigh and Shakuyaku (the previous Empress of Amazon Lily two generations before Hancock) who drove off the Marines and the Blackbeard Pirates.
Despite being saved, Ran and the Kujas are still endanger as long as Hancock stays in Amazon Lily due to the Marines' nuisance. Without any choice, Hancock decided to leave Amazon Lily under the protection of Rayleigh and Shakky and reunite with Luffy to provide Ran and the other Kujas' safety.
Appearance[]
Ran is an average sized lady who has jet black hair parted on one side with an earring on each ear. She wears long black stockings with straps that reach her matching color panties. Around her waist is a decorative belt of rings that is attached to a small flap of blue cloth to cover her rear. Her top is a small orange flowered tank top with a window hole in the middle that seems almost too small for her size. She carries a quiver of arrows slung around her back with a snake that is usually accompanying her. She wears a overcoat, similar to a Marine, like a cape like many of her fellow crewmates.
Personality[]
Ran is a perceptive woman, knowing that Luffy defeated Bacura with brute force. She was also the one who initially recognized Luffy's Haki as Haoshoku Haki. She also seems to be one of the more knowledgeable and prominent Kuja in the pirate crew, telling a little girl about the Gorgon Sisters and their cursed backs (though unknown to Ran, it was in truth a mark of slavery that the three sisters hide in shame).
After Hancock fall in love wiith Luffy, Ran (like the other Kujas) shown her loyalty towards the future Emperor as well loving stretching his rubbery skin.
Abilities and Powers[]
As a member of the Kuja Pirates, it can be implied that she is very strong as only the strongest warriors are allowed on the Kuja ship. As with most of the other Kuja warriors, Ran uses a snake that can morph into a bow to launch arrows. Like all members of the Kuja Tribe, Ran can utilize Haki.
