Randall Handel is a supporting character in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series. He is an agent of Guardian Units of Nations, Rachel's husband, Jojo's step-uncle, Tom and Maddie's brother-in-law, and Sonic the Hedgehog's adoptive step-uncle.
He is played by Shemar Moore, who also played Derek Morgan in Criminal Minds, and Daniel "Hondo" Harrelsonin 2017 TV show S.W.A.T..
Appearence[]
Randall is an African American human with black hair, a bald head, a bristly goatee-shaped beard and brown eyes and technically looks good. He wears ear studs and a gray hat with a black headband. His attire may also consist of a light pink shirt and a white jacket with a boutonniere.
Personality[]
Randall is a pretty playful guy who loves making jokes.
History[]
Early life[]
Randall Handel had a group of friends who helped him through his life, despite thinking that he was incapable of achieving real happiness. Following the recent events at San Francisco, Randall joined the Guardian Units of Nations with his friend group.
Since then, G.U.N., led by Commander Walters, has formed a plan called Operation: Catfish, to capture Sonic the Hedgehog. As part of the plan, he forms a relationship with Rachel, Maddie Wachowski's sister, and one of Sonic's human sympathizers, in order to get closer to Sonic. However, Randall eventually broke the first rule of undercover work by truly falling in love with Rachel. They eventually agreed to get married at Hawaii, where G.U.N. planned to lure Sonic there and capture him.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2[]
Coming to Hawaii with Rachel, Randall met Tom Wachowski after he and Maddie came to attend their wedding. Deciding to play a joke on Tom, Randall pretended to be rather upset at Tom for what he did to Rachel back in San Francisco and began to threaten him, before dropping his mask and joyously admitting his joke. He also tells Tom to bury the hatchet with her.
Randall would later play volleyball with his squad against Tom's failing team and invites him for power yoga before celebrating with his friends.
At his and Rachel's wedding ceremony, Randal had a bi-plane fly by the ceremony with a banner paying tribute to them, just before taking the marriage vow. Just as he was about to put what he thought to be Rachel's wedding ring on however, Tom's phone interrupts it. He picks up the call in the distance only to ask Randall to give him the ring. While Rachel tells Randall to focus on her, Tom punches Randall, takes the ring, opens a portal to Siberia, and lets Sonic and his unconscious partner, Miles "Tails" Prower, come out from it.
When Sonic reveals that Dr. Robotnik has returned to Earth, he starts to worried about Tails. And then, Sonic, Tails, and Tom get taken away. Afterward, Randall is forced to reveal to Rachel that he's a G.U.N agent when Commander Walters arrives. Randall tries to apologize to Rachel, who was notably upset at him for having faked their wedding. He then arrests Tom for trying to save Sonic and Tails.
As Randall tries to have a toast with Walters, he starts feeling guilty for lying to Rachel. A short time later, a G.U.N. agent drops down from the sky, telling them that they're under attack. Rachel then arrives in a golf cart to angrily confront Randall. Despite facing Rachel's fury, Randall was impressed by her guts and fire. And when Walters holds Rachel at gunpoint with a taser handgun, Randall defends her by jumping in the way, and gets himself tased after Walters fires it. Afterward, Rachael forces Walters into surrendering with one of Tails' gadgets. And then, she asks Randall if their love and relationship was ever real, to which Randall confesses that he truly loved her. This prompts them to reconcile and kiss.
Despite not being shown onscreen, it's possible that Randall and Rachel got married after their reconciliation.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3[]
While Randall doesn’t appear physically, his likeness is used when Tom impersonates him while he and Maddie, who impersonates Rachel, infiltrates G.U.N. Headquarters in London. He apparently still works for G.U.N. alongside his current wife, Rachel.
