Raphael is one of the four main protagonists of Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles duology. He is the older brother of Donatello, Leonardo and Michelangelo and the adoptive son of Splinter.
He is portrayed by Alan Ritchson, who also played Aquaman in Smallville, Hank Hall in Titans and Jack Reacher in Reacher.

Raphael was mutated by the mutagen created by Eric Sacks and his partner Dr. O'Neil, along with his brothers Leonardo, Donatello, and Michelangelo and the rat who would later become his adoptive father Splinter, for a secret project known as "Renaissance", when Sacks and his master and adoptive father, the Shredder, the leader of the terrorist ninja group the Foot Clan, planed to use create a chemical outbreak in New York City and use the mutagen as an antidote for the outbreak, to make Sacks look like a hero and make him more wealthy. However, when Doctor O'Neil discovered his plan, he set the laboratory on fire and destroyed the research to stop him, while Dr. O'Neil's daughter, April saved Raphael, his brothers, and Splinter and they were released into the sewers. After Raphael and his brothers were taken by Splinter who raised them as his sons and taught them ninjutsu for the next fifthteen years so they be to protect themselves and remain hidden from the world.

As Raphael and his brothers continued their training, they also kept an eye on the Foot Clan. One night when the Foot Clan were robbing the docks, Raphael went after them and stopped the robbery, leaving a Japanese symbol meaning family, which was discovered by April who was now a reporter for the Channel Six News. However, the Shredder and the Foot Clan decided to draw out Raphael by a holding a subway station full of people, including April, hostage, but, Raphael and his brothers were able to save the hostages without the people seeing what they really are, defeated the Foot Clan members and fled from the station on the rooftops of New York City.
