Ratboy Genius is the titular protagonist of the surreal YouTube musical animated series of the same name. He is a friendly yellow anthropomorphic rat and self-proclaimed "genius" who is ruler over his kingdom.
Appearance[]
Ratboy Genius has yellow skin, large round ears, and a mostly angular body. He has lips which resemble a duck's bill. He most often wears a red shirt with blue shorts and white shoes. In Starship Genius, he instead wears a white uniform and white cap.
Personality[]
Ratboy Genius is cheerful, fun-loving, and friendly to nearly everyone he meets. He loves and is protective of his girlfriend, the Summer Solstice Baby. He does whatever he can to make the inhabitants of his kingdom happy. He is aware of the viewer's presence, talking directly to them as if they are a friend. He has a sense of humor, laughing at other's jokes and setting up a television station that reports blatantly fake news for comedy. He is creative and poetic, making music, creating structures in his kingdom, and eloquently narrating tales. He also likes to relax and have fun enjoying life. He easily makes friends, and is seen alongside many of them throughout the series. He likes to introduce himself and attempt to bond with animals, including a seal, a horse, and a deer, not always successfully. However, he warned the Baby that bears can be dangerous.
However, he is not without his flaws. He is self-congratulatory and thinks highly of himself, calling himself a "genius" even for small things such as knowing fun facts and saying "yay for me" when he does good things or good things happen to him, as well as having his friends gather around to tell them about what he did on his vacation. He also exhibits a minor form of road rage in Ratboy's Kingdom - Chapter 12, yelling "Knock, knock!" and waving his arms at a car he was bumper to bumper with for not parking fast enough. Gradually throughout the series, his arrogance lessens to the point it is barely noticeable.
Powers/Skills[]
- The Magic: Ratboy Genius can tap into this supernatural force to stretch his limbs, grow in size, and turn into a fish. He used the former skill to protect Summer Solstice Baby from a swarm of space fish by hitting them with his stretched-out limbs. He used the latter skill to infiltrate the Fish Legions and hear the Big Fish Boss's rallying speech before the final battle. He also accidentally used this to teleport him and his friends to the Minecraft Dimension while he was dreaming, and fly alongside Summer Solstice Baby for a brief time.
- Reality-warping: He created an entire kingdom through imagination alone.
- Melee combat skills: He is shown physically punching and kicking some space fish away from Baby.
- Instrument-playing: He is proficient in several different instruments, including ukulele and piano.
Biography[]
Ratboy Genius created his world using his own imagination.[1] He created a castle and kingdom, where his many friends live. He takes trips to places which he finds interesting in the real world, sometimes taking some of his friends. He created a computer program to turn himself from a 2D drawing into a 3D model. As a birthday gift, he later did the same to the Summer Solstice Baby, which also gave her a new voice. He built an amusement park, the Ratboy Canal, and a media production facility known as Kingdom Studios. He began a romantic relationship with Summer Solstice Baby and took her on his yacht. The Friend with the Green Flippers helped Ratboy temporarily turn into a fish to swim in a lake. This friend would later teach Ratboy that Ratboy had the ability to turn into a fish by himself all along.
Ratboy Genius Dreams Minecraft[]
One night, his dreams transported himself and his friends to the Minecraft Dimension. He found out about Little King John from his friend Green Monster. This lead him to discover that Little King John kidnapped Summer Solstice Baby. Ratboy Genius took a minecart and met Clyde, who advised him to ride a roller coaster to calm down and destress, and after that, to go meet the old Professor. Ratboy took his advice. The Professor told him that he was dreaming, and told him where Summer Solstice Baby was. Ratboy reunited with Summer Solstice Baby, who had escaped Little King John's castle with the help of Old Froggy. Since they were inside a dream, they flew around and out of the dream. Ratboy's friends also were teleported back home.
Starship Genius[]
Using the Starship Genius space ship, Ratboy Genius and some of his friends went into space. Ratboy was the captain and his friends were the crew.
At a meeting headed by the Professor, Ratboy Genius and the crew learned that the Big Fish Boss and his Fish Legions were gathering electric space currents to destroy planets at will and rule the entire galaxy. He learned about their planned attack, the Final Charge, which would use vast electricity to completely destroy the galaxy. Ratboy Genius made a plan to stop him with Caterpillar Minister.
Caterpillar Minister came up with the idea of using the Starship Genius to redirect the Final Charge. Ratboy Genius suggested to send it back in time millions of years into what would, due to this event, become the Minecraft Dimension.
Ratboy sent Mr. Bigarms and Very Tall Friend into the Minecraft Dimension in the present to recruit Little King John in the battle. They explained to John the nature and origins of his dimension, and convinced him that it was beneficial for him to help out. With the help of Ratboy and Caterpillar Minister, Little King John teleported to Starship Genius, where Ratboy told him his job was to keep the portal to the Minecraft Dimension open. Ratboy sent Happyman and Green Monster to recruit Young Mouthbottom to catch the Big Fish Boss in a giant fishing net. Ratboy sent Buck Dodger back in time to Minecraft to befriend Little King John. Ratboy expressed sadness that he may never see Clyde again due to Clyde's role driving the Starship back in time with the Final Charge. Clyde assured him that they will see each other again.
During the final battle, Ratboy evacuated the Starship, but Clyde stayed onboard. As a group effort, the crew redirected the gigantic thunderbolt caused by the final charge into a concentration. Ratboy and Summer Solstice Baby turned into fish and swam out in space. They managed to push the Big Fish Boss into the Final Charge, and Fish Boss ended up in Mouthbottom's net. With Little King John focusing his power into keeping the portal open, the Final Charge and Starship Genius were transported back in time to form the birth of the Minecraft Dimension. Without a starship, Captain Bob picked up the crew and brought them back home to Earth.
Sometime afterwards, he and his friends created a musical production based on true events called Happyman on the Red Planet and George, which has finally been completed after a long hiatus.

Ratboy Genius's colors may be based on the color scheme of Bart Simpson, because in the Simpsons episode "Homer vs. Patty and Selma", Homer Simpson calls Bart "dear Rat Boy".
