Red Alert is a recurring character in the Transformers Generation One cartoon and comic. Red Alert serves as the Autobot security director. He has enhanced senses and is usually depicted as a friend of the Autobot Inferno. He was voiced by Michael Chain.
History[]
Animated series[]
Red Alert first appeared in the episode "Dinobot Island, Part 1".
His most prominent appearance came in "Auto-Berserk" alongside Inferno. After a battle with the Decepticons ended with Red Alert being damaged by one of Rumble's missiles, the Autobot became paranoid that Inferno and the others were out to get him. Red Alert deserted and teamed up with Starscream (who had been abandoned by the Decepticons on the battlefield and decided to take revenge on Megatron) to steal an Autobot device called the Negavator. The conspirators succeeded in sneaking in the secret bunker where the Negavator was placed. But then the alarm system had snapped into action, and the Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, appeared in the bunker just in the moment when the two chums tried to move the weapon away. But the Decepticons, headed by Megatron, arrived there, too. Megatron demanded Starscream to hand over the Negavator to him, and the latter agreed hastily, with the purpose of avoiding his leader's wrath. But Red Alert refused to give up the weapon, and the recent allies began to fight. After a blast in the abdomen by Starscream's Null Ray cured his paranoia glitch, Red Alert realized what he had done and destroyed the Negavator, setting fire to the cavern they were in - and a guilty Inferno rushed into the fire to save Red Alert's life. After this, Red Alert realized who his true friends were.
Comics[]
Red Alert appeared in the UK-exclusive story "The Enemy Within", present among the Autobots on Earth without any explanation. He took part in the attempt to capture Brawn, who had been driven berserk by an accident, waiting in ambush while the rest of the Autobots failed to restrain Brawn and successfully surprising him and taking him out. This was his only major present day appearance: His only appearances in Marvel US material were a background cameo in the G.I. Joe and the Transformers miniseries and another cameo on the cover of Issue #41.
The post-movie version of the character appeared in "Time Wars", where he was among the handful of Autobots assisting Rodimus Prime on Earth. He joined with Kup and Arcee to destroy an energy siphon set up by Soundwave and the Terrorcons, before being part of the group that travelled back in time to confront the time-displaced Galvatron, shunting Snarl and several other present-day Autobots into limbo in the process.
He later served as executive officer and pilot of the shuttle evacuating the Autobots from Decepticon-controlled Cybertron. They headed to Earth but the ship was sabotaged by Rodimus Prime, who had been possessed by Unicron. Red Alert survived the subsequent crash and helped battle the possessed Rodimus until Kup managed to break Unicron's link with him.

- Main article: Team Athenia
Red Alert, a gruff field medic, served as a member of Team Athenia, and was voiced by Tara Strong. She was seen alongside her teamates Ironhide, Brawn, Hot Shot, and Rodimus Prime near a Space Bridge node fighting Decepticons. Her services were called into action when Hot Shot was hit by Strika—his leg was badly damaged and she told him it would have to be amputated, despite his protests. Her bedside manner didn't help when she told Hot Shot that a new one would be delivered by the Cybertron Service in six to eight solar cycles. Before the leg could be amputated, she was captured, swallowed, coated in explosive goo, and spat back out by Spittor. Hurled at Brawn and Ironhide, the resulting blast took all three out of commission. That being said, they evidently recovered, as Red Alert and her team were seen in several crowd scene cameos.
Transformers One[]
Red Alert makes a few appearances throughout the film, he is seen playing an arcade game and later takes part in Orion's rebellion against Sentinel. He later joins the Autobots after Orion became Optimus Prime.
Trivia[]
- Storyboards for "The Transformers The Movie" show Red Alert, Sideswipe, Ultra Magnus, and Tracks taking down Devastator but Red Alert was later killed by one of the Constructicons. The scene however was cut from the film.
