Reggie Mantle is a supporting and recurring character/antagonist in the CW/Netflix series, Riverdale. He is a student of Riverdale High School until he graduated, the captain of the Bulldogs and the frenemy of Archie Andrews. Often alongside the protagonists, Reggie also acts as an antagonist throughout the series, notably when he works as a henchman for Hiram Lodge on two occasions.
First played by Ross Butler in Season 1, he was portrayed by Charles Melton for the rest of the series.
Personality[]
Reggie is the stereotypical high school jock, haughty, arrogant, sarcastic and troublemaker. He is very competitive and jealous, often antagonizing Archie. But behind that personality, Reggie is actually a troubled teenager and acts like that because of the continuous abuse from his father, Marty Mantle. He also admitted that he attacked Archie because he envied his relationship between him and his father Fred, a paternal relationship that he would have liked to have with his father.
History[]
In Season 1, the murder of Jason Blossom, Cheryl Blossom's brother is a main topic among the students in high school. In the cafeteria, Reggie nastily jokes with his friends that Jughead might have murdered Jason before assuming he had sex with his corpse. Jughead's slashing response to Reggie's taunting causes the jock to fight Jug but Archie steps in and fights Reggie instead.
In Season 2, Reggie and the Riverdale Bulldogs support Archie after his father is shot by a masked mugger at Pop's. He also joins the Black Circle created by Archie in order to intimidate the Black Hood but he refuses to get involved more so as not to be expelled from high school. On the other hand, Reggie opposes the Southside Serpents' arrival at the facility and turns the Bulldogs against them. When Fangs Fogarty is arrested for murder, he is about to be released, which sparks a riot. Reggie meanwhile made a deal with Hiram to shoot Fangs despite being stopped by Archie.
In Season 3, Reggie visits Archie with Veronica when he is committed to a juvenile detention center. Reggie also works as Veronica's right-hand man when she opens the Lounge Bar.
