Reginleif

Reginleif is a minor protagonist in the video game Age of Mythology and its remaster Age of Mythology: Retold. She appears during the Norse Arc of the campaign Fall of the Trident, who serves to assist Arkantos in uniting Norse clans to rally an army to stop Gargarensis. In Retold, she is the main protagonist of a scenario named "Reginleif's Rally" that takes place during Fall of the Trident.

She is voiced by Tasia Valenza in the original game.

Biography[]

Reginleif was once a powerful member of the sisterhood of the Valkyrie who served Odin by bringing souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla. At some point, she fell from grace under unknown circumstances, and now she attempts to delay Ragnarok to redeem herself in Odin's eyes. She's 1028 years old by the time of Fall of the Trident.

In "Reginleif's Rally", Reginleif is sent to Alfheim where Gargarensis has united the giant clans of Folstag and Halogi against the unprepared Norse forces. By the time she arrives, only one Norse village remains standing, but under the protection of the Norse god Freyr, she manages to rally the battered Norsemen and drive out the giants. Gargarensis swears revenge to Reginleif before returning to Egypt to continue his wicked plans there. Not wanting to take chances, Reginleif tasks a Norse warrior named Niordsir to track the cyclops down in the hope of stopping his plans. This leads to Niordsir arriving in Egypt where he encounters Chiron and allies with him to fight Gargarensis.

After Arkantos is betrayed by Skult, Reginleif makes her introduction to the heroes. She explains that Skult is in fact the trickster god Loki who was tricking them into getting the Norsemen to fight his army, as the flag he bears was that of Folstag. Reginleif leads the heroes to help save multiple Norse villages from monsters, and said villages join the heroes in their quest to stop Gargarensis.

They track Gargarensis to his fortress and find that he has built it around the Well of Urd — a passage into the Underworld. Upon fighting their way in, he is already battering the Hades Gate. They attack to take down the ram, but they are overwhelmed by monsters who force them to retreat, and Chiron sacrifices himself to block their path. This buys them time, as they reunite with Eitri and Brokk, who are rebuilding Thor's hammer. The hammer is successfully built, and Thor uses it to seal the gate at the last second upon opening. After the resolting explosion returns them to Midgard, the heroes stand their ground against Gargarensis' overwhelming forces, but are saved by Odysseus and defeat the army.

In "Close to Home", a standalone scenario in the original Age of Mythology, Reginleif returns to her home village after stopping Gargarensis. She finds that the monsters of Hades have invaded through underworld passages. The threat is thwarted, as she kills the monsters and destroys the passages.
