Reno Ichikawa is the deuteragonist of the science fiction and action manga and anime series, Kaiju No. 8. He first met Kafka Hibino after he was recruited as a member of the Monster Inc. company before becoming a member of the Third Division in the Defense Force alongside Kafka. He later was sent down to the Fourth Division due to the loss of the division's base, the Tachikawa Base.
He is voiced by Wataru Katou (Touka Scott in The Legendary Hero is Dead, Rentaro Aijou in The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You, and Kabru in Delicious in Dungeon) in Japanese and Adam McArthur (Marco Diaz in Star vs. the Forces of Evil and Yuji Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen) in English.
Appearance[]
Reno is an average-looking man in his late man with light grey and pale purple eyes. He first makes his appearance in his casual clothes, comprising of a jacket and a headphone around his neck. Later, working as a Monster Inc. member, he switched to the company's coverall uniform. After joining the Defence Force, he wears the male combat suit which comprises grey pads that cover his shoulders, wrists, and legs.
Personality[]
Reno appears as a restful young man. During his introduction, he is introduced to Kafka by another Monster Inc. worker who gives an uncaring look in his eyes as he looks away. Showing curiosity he questions Kafka as to why he intends to give up working as a member of Monster Inc. when the man told him so. He cuts Kafka midway in his sentence when he tries to explain his reason for trying to quit, causing Kafka to irritate. He later shows a bit more of his emotion when he is seen blushing as he says that he could not care less when he comments that he looked torn up as he tries to explain the reason he intended to quit. Following being rescued by Kafka by pushing him aside from the jaw of a kaiju, he shows bravery to defend his comrade as he stood in front of him. Although he stated that he does that to join the Defence Force, showing a bit of selfishness. As the story progresses, he becomes more serious in missions and shows more of his responsible side.
Powers and Abilities[]
By many of higher ranking Defence Force members, Reno is deemed as a highly valuable member of the organization due his fast progress of combat abilities as vice-captain of the Third Division, Soshiro Hoshina has already acknowledged him be fit in the position of a division captain and is even deemed to be a prodigy by Jugo Ogata, the Fourth Division captain.
Numbers Weapons 6[]
With the remainings of Kaiju No. 6, the force forged a suit that is considered best influencial suit they've made.
- Enhanced Physical Prowess: Following the integration of the kaiju-made suit, his combat proficiencies and capabilities have undergone a significant enhancement, enabling him to achieve heightened speed and single-handedly fend off multiple kaijus. His speed also manage to impress Iharu Furuhashi and even evade a kaiju who charged toward his direction to attack.
Weaknesses[]
Although Reno is capable of harnessing an abundance of power from his suit, an excessive strain on his human physique, resulting in torn muscles and fractured bones as he overcome in battles.
