The Resistance is an organization that appears in the Sonic Forces video game. It's a militant organization formed by Sonic the Hedgehog's friends after his defeat at the hands of Infinite and Dr. Eggman's world conquest. They, however, failed to make major progress in the fight until Sonic was freed from captivity and his past self emerged.

When Dr. Eggman launched his campaign to take over the world, Knuckles formed a rag-tag resistance group to fight his forces in light of Sonic's presumed demise. Overtime, it grew in numbers, but failed to stop the Eggman Empire's onslaught, which culminated in it controlling 99,99% of Earth. Six months into the war, the Resistance caught word that Sonic was being kept prisoner on the Death Egg, and sent a young recruit to rescue him. With Sonic back in the game, Resistance began to score actual victories in the war.
Knuckles' "Operation Big Wave" was meant to end the war in one swift move by launching an assault on Metropolis and capturing Eggman, but thanks to Infinite's interference, it ended in a disaster, with 80% of the Resistance forces being destroyed. The Resistance prepared to attack the Eggman Empire Fortress and shut down Eggman's ultimate weapon, the Phantom Ruby, only to be met with an illusion of the sun about to fall on them and burn them alive. The Rookie stopped this from happening, and he and Sonic defeated Infinite and destroyed the reactor powering the original Phantom Ruby. It turned out, however, that the Phantom Ruby had no power source, and Eggman was ready to use it to crush his enemy. Sonic, Classic Sonic and the Rookie fought Eggman's Death Egg Robot and destroyed it, finally ending Eggman Empire's reign and leaving the Resistance victorious.

A month after the end of Eggman War, the Resistance continued to deal with its fallout, like Metal Sonic's attempted takeover. After said issue was dealt with, Knuckles stepped down as the leader and left the position to Amy Rose, who disbanded the Resistance and reformed it into Restoration.
Overview[]
The Resistance in its early stages is described as a ragtag group. As the war progresses, however, they adopt a more formal structure, with designated divisions and even an air fleet. The group's primary weapons are Wispons, firearms powered by the Wisps' Hyper-go-on energy.
Despite employing many superpowered individuals, the Resistance failed to stop Eggman Empire's world conquest in Sonic's absense, only managing to win the freedom back when the Blue Blur himself joined their ranks.
