Adamska, also known as Revolver Ocelot, Major Ocelot, Liquid Ocelot and Shalashaska, is a recurring character in Konami's Metal Gear video game series.
Throughout the series, he takes on a variety of roles: a major nemesis of Solid Snake, a friendly rival to Naked Snake, the right-hand man to Liquid Snake and Solidus Snake, and a close ally to Venom Snake.
He was voiced by Patric Zimmerman, Josh Keaton in MGS3 and MPO and Troy Baker in MGSV. In Japanese, he was voiced by the late Kōji Totani, Takumi Yamazaki in MGS3 and MPO, Banjō Ginga in MGS4 and Satoshi Mikami and Satoshi Mikami in MGSV.
Biography[]
Background[]
Adamska was born in 1944 to The Boss and The Sorrow, whom were both members of the Cobra Unit during the storming of Normandy. After his birth, he was taken by the Philosophers and later served under Colonel Volgin while acting as a double agent for the KGB and the CIA.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater[]
In an ironic twist Ocelot is introduced to the weapon that has become his trademark by his nemesis' father during Operation Snake Eater in 1964. Naked Snake easily subdues him in their first encounter, and suggests that he switch to using a revolver as it suits his shooting style best. Ocelot is already an accomplished soldier in his early twenties, as he is already attained the rank of Major and is the leader of a Special Forces Unit (Ocelots) for the GRU. He battles Naked Snake again on a number of occasions. It becomes apparent eventually that he holds Naked Snake in high esteem, and deeply respects his fighting prowess. Ocelot acquires an appreciation for torture when he watched Colonel Volgintorture Snake, calling it "the ultimate form of expression." During this time Ocelot accidentally gives Snake the infamous eye injury that forces him to wear the iconic eye-patch, commonly associated with his legacy as Big Boss.
As the events of the game unfold Ocelot once again takes centre stage, as he is revealed to be the lost son of The Boss and The Sorrow (the long dead member of The Cobra Unit, who had the abilities to talk to the dead when he was alive and keep his spirit in the world of the living when he was dead), which goes a long way in explaining his fine soldiering abilities and the reason why Liquid Snake could take over his body many years later. The phone call during the game epilogue reveals that he was Adam, the KGB informant meant to assist Snake in his mission. It is also revealed that he had been working for the USA all along as a triple agent, seeking to help it secure the Philosopher's Legacy (and giving EVA, the Chinese triple agent of the game, a fake Philosopher's Legacy). It remains unclear if Ocelot knew anything about his lineage.
Metal Gear Solid[]
In Metal Gear Solid, Revolver Ocelot is one of the members of the rogue FOXHOUNDunit which takes over a nuclear disposal facility on Shadow Moses Island. It appears as if Ocelot is the second in command, after the terrorist leader, Liquid Snake. After a battle with Solid Snake, a mysterious Cyborg Ninja appears, cutting off Ocelot's arm. Later in the game, Ocelot is in charge of the torture of Solid Snake, in the scene that would decide the ending of the game (submitting to the torture would mean the death of Meryl). He had previously tortured the DARPA chief Donald Anderson, in order to find out his code to enable to launch nukes with Metal Gear REX but had gone too far and killed him. The DARPA chief who died of FOXDIE in front of Snake was Decoy Octopus in disguise. At the end of the game, it becomes clear that Ocelot is the only survivor of FOXHOUND (unaffected by the FOXDIE virus); the game's conclusion is a conversation he has with an unidentified man about the aftermath of the incident. This man turns out to be the president of the USA, and is eventually revealed to be a third son of Big Boss, Solidus Snake. Post-MGS, Ocelot proceeds to sell the Metal Gear REX blueprints on the black market.
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty[]
Revolver Ocelot reappears in Metal Gear Solid 2. This time, he is introduced as the leader of a Russian terrorist group, alongside long-time friend Sergei Gurlukovich. They hijack a USMC Tanker, seeking to steal a new Metal Gear prototype, codenamed RAY. In the process of stealing RAY, Ocelot betrays his comrades, making off with RAY on his own in the name of The Patriots, but only after sinking the Tanker. After a brief discussion with "Mr President" (Solidus Snake had long since given up the presidency and gone underground) Ocelot disappeared into the ocean.
During this time, the infamous Liquid Ocelot (Liquid) makes his first appearance in front of a stunned Solid Snake. To replace the arm he lost at Shadow Moses, Ocelot went to Lyon, France prior to the Tanker incident to have the late Liquid Snake's arm grafted on to his being. Unfortunately this results in the dormant mind of Liquid Snake talking over Ocelot.
Two years later, during the Big Shell Incident, Ocelot joins the terrorist organization ' Sons of Liberty,' which is lead by Solidus Snake, when they take over the Big Shell - a facility built to deal with the enviromental hazards posed by the Tanker Incident. He is deeply involved in the bigger twists of the plot; the Cyborg Ninja's reappearance, being present at the death of Raiden's informant Richard Ames, and murdering the president James Johnson.
Towards the end of the game Ocelot explains to everyone that the events that transpired at the Big Shell are nothing more than a training kernel for the S3 plan created by The Patriots, which Ocelot believes to stand for "Solid Snake Simulation". To do this, everything leading to Raiden's final confrontation with Arsenal Gear was staged to serve as a recreation of Shadow Moses; Dead Cell's presence , the appearance of a new Cyborg ninja, the President and Ames' abrupt deaths, and finally a digital counterpart to the FOXDIE virus. He does concede that Snake's presence greatly skewed the results of the experiment, and takes "off to bury The Patriots for good"after being possessed by Liquid Snake once again.
Ocelot was not seen again in the game but he was referred to by the A.I. that had assumed control after GW had been wiped out. It seems Ocelot was, "not told the entire truth to say the least." The S3 plan actually stood for "Selection for Societal Sanity." It was a plan to test an A.I's ability to control and manipulate a person (and eventually a nation) into following their orders through information and circumstance, leaving Ocelot's place in the hierarchy of The Patriots in question at the end of the game.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots[]
Learning of the plot by the Patriot AIs JD, TR, TJ, and AL to enslave the civilian population to the will of the war economy after having corrupted their original programming by Major Zero to carry out his ideologies of The Boss' will, Ocelot uses nanomachines and hypnotherapy to turn himself into Liquid Ocelot, himself possessed by the will of Liquid Snake, and takes command of the five Private Military Companies (PMCs) placed in his command under the dummy mother company Outer Heaven. Aided by Naomi Hunter, Vamp, his elite all-female Haven Troopers, and the Beauty and the Beast Unit, along with the rebuilt Patriot AI GW, Ocelot serves as a decoy to draw the attention of JD and the other AIs under the surmise of trying to launch an insurrection against the United States and United Nations. As a result, Solid Snake, or Old Snake, due to his accelerated aging from the Les Enfants Terrible project as a clone of Big Boss, is assigned by Roy Campbell to stop Ocelot's insurrection, even if it meant killing him to do it, supported by Hal "Otacon" Emmerich and Sunny.
Snake's first attempt to take out Ocelot is in the Middle East as Ocelot overlooks the Praying Mantis PMC, then attempts his first go at taking over the Sons of the Patriots (SOP) System using Liquid Snake's DNA, but it only causes the PMC troopers to suffer such emotional breakdowns that many begin throwing up, attacking each other, and some even suffering fatal heart attacks. Ocelot is impressed with the results, but when he asks Naomi if she agrees, she turns and storms off in a huff, disgusted with what she saw. As Ocelot turns to leave, he senses something, and sees Snake among the PMCs. Taking a moment to speak to him, he declares they are not copies of their father Big Boss after all and to witness him surpass his own limitations before leaving Snake and boarding his getaway chopper, joined by Naomi after she leaves a syringe for Snake to collect, and being escorted away by Gekko.
As part of his plan to stop JD and the other AIs, Ocelot then has Naomi work in his lab in South America, overseen by Vamp and the Pieurve Armament PMC forces under his command, and send a call for help to Snake and Otacon to rescue her. As part of the deal, Naomi acquires a blood sample from Solid Snake for Ocelot to use to try and hack SOP again, while allowing Naomi to be rescued to help work out the plan to take out JD and the other AIs.
“ | Vamp: Boss, she got away. Are you sure about this? Ocelot: It's all part of the plan. Vamp: The test was a failure, even with his code. Ocelot: As I feared, it's not pure enough. We need all of him. Vamp: The PMCs we deployed have suffered brain damage. Nothing salvageable remains. Our only remaining option is to secure the original. Ocelot: I know that. It's only a matter of time. We're working as fast as we can to find their hiding place. I need you here too, Vamp. |

~ Ocelot and Vamp hint at the greater agenda for stopping the Patriot AIs |
With Naomi working with Otacon, Snake, and Sunny to perfect the FOXALIVE virus, Ocelot moves on to his next phase and deploys the Raven Sword PMC to Eastern Europe to smoke out Big Mama and her resistance forces, who were in the possession of the body of Solidus Snake, the perfect clone of Big Boss, so everyone thought that it was Big Boss. As Naomi explained to Otacon, the previous attempts to hack SOP were failures because the System is encoded with Big Boss' genetic code, and only a perfect 100% match would unlock it. Any imperfect matches, like Liquid and Solid Snake's DNA, are blacklisted to prevent additional attempts to hack SOP with them. Ocelot has several Dwarf Gekko/Scarabs follow Snake to Big Mama's hideout in a cathedral, then sends the Raven Sword troopers to capture them, sending in Gekko and FROGs, even Raging Raven, to further attempt to capture the pyx. However, all the vans were decoys, as the real one carrying the pyx already made it to the Volta River and loaded onto Big Mama's getaway boat. Needless to say, Naomi, upon finishing things with Otacon and Sunny, left them to return to Ocelot, and told him of the plan.
By the time Big Mama and Snake reach the Volta, Ocelot is waiting for them, revealing the overturned and burning remains of the getaway boat, before having his Haven Troopers surround Snake and Big Mama, and Vamp and Naomi appear on Ocelot's gunboat. Convinced of victory being his now, Ocelot confronts Snake, and after flicking his cigar he was smoking at Snake's Solid Eye, quickly disarms Snake of his M4 Custom and M1911 Operator while sticking his Stun Knife in his shoulder with CQC. Snake taunts Ocelot that he will only possess the military part of SOP with Big Boss' DNA, but Ocelot then reveals that he restored GW and is using it as a Trojan core to infiltrate JD. Once he blows JD to pieces with a nuke, GW will take over TJ, TR, and AL so Ocelot will be able to stop the Patriots' plan himself. Leaving Snake and Big Mama for dead, Ocelot takes his leave on his gunboat, only to then be surrounded by a task force of United States Army/Marine Corps forces led by Meryl Silverburgh and her Rat Patrol Team 01. Amused by their presence to witness his triumph, Ocelot prepares to activate his takeover of the System.

~ The final moments before Ocelot takes over SOP |
Meryl attempts to have her forces open fire, but just as she shouts the command, Ocelot engages GW and locks their weapons, rendering them unable to fire a single round. He then shoots down the helicopters, has one of his FROGs shoot up Rat Patrol's boat, then forces the U.S. soldiers and Marines to suffer emotional breakdowns like what happened to his Praying Mantis and Pieurve Armament forces, leaving them helpless as he then has his FROGs open fire on them, cutting the helpless U.S. servicemen to pieces. He then has his gunboat fire on Rat Patrol's boat, knocking them into the water, before floating alongside to return the body of Solidus to them. As Big Mama struggles to protect it from the flames and Snake tries to save her, Ocelot draws his Thor .45-70 to finish off Solidus for good.

~ Ocelot before destroying Solidus |
As Solidus is destroyed, Snake is burned on the left side of his face, while Big Mama's back is burnt as well. His job in Eastern Europe done, Ocelot heads for his next phase of his plan.
Traveling back to Shadow Moses Island, Ocelot intends to commandeer Metal Gear REX's railgun to use to launch a non-ID tagged nuke at JD to destroy it. Once JD is gone, GW will take over and Ocelot will have full control over the Patriots to stop their endgame. Otacon, Snake, and Raiden arrive too late to intercept them before they get REX's railgun, and Snake soon has to pilot REX against Ocelot in the Metal Gear RAY.
“ | Moses! Where our fates were born, and where yours ends, Snake! | „ |
~ Ocelot before engaging in battle with RAY |
Although Snake and REX manage to overpower and defeat RAY, Ocelot survives and, after faking out Snake with apparently succumbing to FOXDIE, flees for the shoreline as his Arsenal Gear, Outer Haven, surfaces. Climbing aboard and taunting Snake again, Ocelot tells Snake to perish as he has Outer Haven turn about to ram the dockside and crush Snake, if not drown him. Raiden manages to keep Outer Haven at bay with his cyborg strength to give Snake time to get clear before he is overpowered and crushed, but the USS Missouri soon arrives to drive Outer Haven off, though Ocelot calls the old WWII Iowa-class battleship a "worthless fossil" before having Outer Haven submerge and escape.
Heading to the Bering Strait, Ocelot intends to take out JD at perigee. The Missouri arrives to engage Outer Haven and attempt to stop the launch, and despite stiff resistance from Ocelot's forces, including Gekko, Scarabs, Haven Troopers, and unmanned Metal Gear RAYs, Snake is able to reach GW's server room and upload the FOXALIVE virus, shutting down Ocelot's forces, along with GW, JD, and the other Patriot AIs. When Ocelot takes Snake to the sail of Outer Haven to tell him it is over, Snake is confused. Ocelot could have stopped them, but he didn't.
Ocelot reveals some backstory about the Philosophers' Legacy that was created back during when the USA, USSR, and PRC were still Allies, and how all that led to this point with being freed from the System and the shackles of fate. Helping Snake back to his feet, Ocelot still wants to have one last bout with Snake. As they fight, Ocelot's true personality begins to resurface as he and Snake engage in a CQC fight until it ends with them just barely able to swing punches at each other until Snake finally overpowers Ocelot. As he lays dying, Ocelot finally lets go of his Liquid disguise as he tells Snake "you're pretty good" with the same hand gestures from the last time he did it, before finally succumbing to the new FOXDIE variant that Drebin 893 injected into Snake at the behest of the Patriot AIs and dying as himself.
Big Boss later explained to Snake about Ocelot and why he did what he did alongside Big Mama and Naomi to help put an end to the Patriots and Zero's warped ideologies for good.
