Biography[]

Background[]

Rex's journey took an unexpected turn when he found himself under the guardianship of Spike Taylor, a trusted confidant of Dr. Owen. Dr. Owen, a traveling paleontologist, faced challenges in providing consistent care for Rex due to the demands of his profession. Recognizing the need for a more stable environment, Dr. Owen made the difficult decision to entrust Rex to Spike's care. Spike, who had a close relationship with Dr. Owen, was well-equipped to provide the stability and attention that Rex needed. Under Spike's guardianship, Rex embarked on a new chapter filled with incredible adventures and opportunities for personal growth.

Meanwhile, tensions escalated as Dr. Z, a nefarious figure known for his cruel dinosaur fighting spectacles, joined forces with a partner named Seth. Together, they devised a sinister plan to eliminate Rex's parents once and for all. In the midst of their plot, a twist of fate occurred. Baby Rex was unexpectedly transported to the present day, while his parents were sent hurtling off to an unknown destination. It was at the Smithsonian Museum that Rex was discovered by Dr. Owen, a kind-hearted bachelor who recognized the potential for a loving home. Dr. Owen, having learned about Rex's lineage and turbulent past, decided to adopt him as his own. Rex was the sole child of the esteemed Dr. Ancient and Dr. Cretacia, renowned paleontologists from the year 2126. However, Rex's happy childhood took a dark turn when his parents became embroiled in a bitter conflict with Dr. Z. Despite the challenges he faced, Rex found solace and love in his new home with Dr. Owen. Together, they navigated the complexities of Rex's past while embracing the adventures that awaited them in the present day.

Dinosaur King[]

Many years had passed since their earlier adventures, and now Max, along with his companions in the D-Team, was twelve years old (or possibly thirteen in that approximate age range). One fateful night, as Max gazed up at the sky, he spotted a meteor hurtling towards the earth. Filled with excitement, he woke up his friend Rex, and together they ventured into the forest to investigate. The next morning, accompanied by Zoe, they explored the wooded area where the meteor had crashed. To their amazement, they stumbled upon three peculiar stones adorned with symbols representing Wind, Lightning, and Grass. Rex instinctively reached for the Wind stone, feeling an inexplicable connection to it. Their discovery didn't end there. Amidst the foliage, Max uncovered two mysterious cards. One depicted a Triceratops, while the other seemed altogether unfamiliar. Acting on impulse, Max rubbed the Triceratops card against his Lightning stone, triggering a remarkable transformation as the dinosaur sprang to life before their eyes. Thrilled by this newfound power, Max soon learned how to revert the Triceratops to its card form and even discovered a method to summon a smaller, chibi version of the creature, which he affectionately named Chomp.

Their adventures took an unexpected turn when they crossed paths with their rivals, the Alpha Gang, who summoned the mighty Tyrannosaurus, Terry. Despite Rex's doubts about a Triceratops standing a chance against such a formidable opponent, Max and Chomp emerged victorious thanks to a fortuitous find: the Electric Charge move card. As their battles with the Alpha Gang intensified, they stumbled upon more cards, each revealing new dinosaurs with unique attributes. Among them were a Carnotaurus, named Ace by Rex, and a Parasaurolophus, dubbed Paris by Zoe. Together with Chomp, these dinosaurs became invaluable allies in their ongoing struggle against their adversaries.

Despite the dangers they faced, the D-Team developed a strong bond with their prehistoric companions, often keeping them in their chibi forms to conceal their true identities. Max's mother, unaware of their true nature, affectionately referred to them as "weird-looking dogs." Their confrontations with the Alpha Gang escalated as both sides vied for control over the dinosaur cards and move cards. Rex and Ace found themselves locked in frequent battles against Tank, the Alpha Gang's Saichania, adding further intensity to their rivalry. Amidst these trials, Rex and the D-Team received startling revelations about his parentage. Jonathan, a trusted ally, revealed that Rex was the son of Dr. Ancient and Dr. Cretacia, born during a daring time-travel mission to the Mesozoic Era from the distant future of 2126 A.D.

Mesozoic Meltdown[]

After a long separation, Rex finally reunited with his parents, who unexpectedly returned. Upon their return, Rex's parents took possession of the valuable dinosaur cards and element stones that both the D-Team and the Alpha Gang had been safeguarding. With this significant development, Rex, his parents, along with Jonathan and the Alpha Gang, embarked on a journey back to the future utilizing the Backlander, a remarkable time-traveling vessel.

However, their journey was soon disrupted by an unexpected assault from the Spectral Space Pirates, forcing them to abruptly return to their present time. In a twist of fate, Gabbro, one of the antagonistic members of the Spectral Space Pirates, orchestrated the kidnapping of the D-Team's parents, throwing their plans into disarray.

In their quest to rescue the kidnapped parents and thwart the plans of the Spectral Space Pirates, the group, guided by Pterosaur, traversed through various time periods, encountering challenges and adversaries along the way. Despite the adversity, they gradually uncovered the elusive Cosmos Stones, pivotal artifacts essential for their mission.

After numerous battles and facing formidable foes, including Seth, the leader of the Spectral Space Pirates, they emerged victorious. With the defeat of their adversaries and the retrieval of the Cosmos Stones, Rex, his reunited family, Jonathan, and even the Alpha Gang, forged ahead to return to their future.

However, their return journey was not without complications. The Backlander, their primary means of transportation, sustained significant damage during their adventures, rendering it unusable for subsequent trips. In a daring move born out of necessity, they commandeered the spaceship belonging to the Spectral Space Pirates, which unfortunately could only make a single voyage. This unfortunate limitation meant that Rex faced the heartbreaking realization that he could never return to the past to reunite with his friends Max and Zoe, as their paths diverged permanently due to the constraints of time and space. Thus, with a mixture of triumph and sorrow, Rex and his companions departed for the future, leaving behind cherished memories and uncertain futures for all involved.

Trivia[]

  • Rex, the inaugural member of the D-Team, suffered his first defeat in a battle, and it was Terry who emerged victorious (excluding the instance when Chomp, after securing its first victory, succumbed to exhaustion).
  • Rex stands out among all the characters because he has a unique birthday, which falls on June 10. It was on this special day in 2007 that he celebrated his 12th adoptive birthday, coincidentally aligning with the Sunday when the episode featuring his character was first broadcasted in Japan.
  • In the 4komas featured on Kyoryu-King.com, there are instances where Rex is depicted with a unique form of anthropomorphism. This fascinating transformation grants him the ability to utilize Wind Moves, as showcased in specific comics such as number 29 and 87.
  • This character's irony runs deep as their name is Rex, yet instead of a classic Tyrannosaurus rex, they have a Carnotaurus as their dinosaur companion. This unexpected twist adds a layer of complexity to their persona, challenging stereotypes and defying expectations in a playful and whimsical manner.
  • He is among the rare few characters who retained their original names in the English dub, as his name is already in English. Similarly, Ace also maintained his original name in the dub. Additionally, characters like Spartacus and Aki Taylor (Max's mother) kept their first names unchanged, even though her last name was altered.

Additionally, just like Max, he subsequently developed an infatuation for Zahrah while they were embarking on their quest to locate the elusive Red Cosmos Stone. Furthermore, his jealousy intensifies whenever he witnesses Zahrah's interactions with Aladdin, as he fervently vows to safeguard her from harm.

The combination of the vest and bare chest creates a striking visual that captures the essence of Rex's bold and fearless personality, making him stand out as a charismatic and enigmatic figure in the world of entertainment.
  • Although he was born during the Mesozoic Era, his age is not impacted by the passing of time as he never experienced the years in between due to time travel.
