Biography[]
Background[]
Richard "Rick" Mason's past is currently unknown, but he would become an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., an organization created to stop terrorism and main global security against threats. During his time while working with the agency, Rick befriended Natasha Romanoff, a former Red Room assassin who was famously known as the "Black Widow". Mason became known to have vast connections with contacts, and was able to obtain supplies and equipment with ease. At some point, Rick decided to leave the agency to become an independent contactor. Though he left S.H.I.E.L.D., Mason remained in contact with Natasha for any time she needed supplies or equipment.
Black Widow[]
By 2016, Mason was still working as a private contractor when Natasha asked for his assistance, as she had broken the Sokovia Accords during the Avengers Civil War. Rick provided her a cabin to lay low in Norway as she paid him, and supplied her with fake IDs and a suitcase that was left for her. Natasha later opened the suitcase, and left her cabin to reunite with her adoptive sister Yelena, who needed her assistance in stopping General Dreykov. Mason's connections would start to decline his calls due to Secretary Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, who was stopping his power presumably to prevent Natasha from hiding.
Romanoff later returned to Mason with Yelena, and asked for him to acquire transport so they could rescue their adoptive father, Alexei Shostakov. The only thing he could acquire for them was a Mi-8 helicopter, and informed Natasha that Thaddeus Ross was on to him. Due to his assistance, Natasha and Yelena were able to reunite with their adoptive parents, and stop General Dreykov from controlling the Black Widows.
Mason would reunite with Natasha two weeks after she stopped Dreykov, and supplied her with a Quinjet so she could help her other family, Captain America and Falcon, who were on the run as well.
