Rickard is a supporting character of the Archanea series of the Fire Emblem franchise.
In Fire Emblem Heroes he is voiced by Shizuka Itō in Japanese, who also voiced Byleth, and by Edward Aaron Mendoza in English, who also voiced Sain.
Personality[]
Rickard is a laidback thief who is very flippant about the consequences of his work. He can be very plucky as a result, which caused him to be caught looting a castle. Before joining Marth, he appears no different from any other thief: he has neutral motivations and steals things whenever the opportunity arises. He admits that while he considers himself a small-time thief, he happily declares that he has big aspirations.
However, he is very polite, and his pluckiness allows him to be at ease in tough situations. He is made more heroic by his loyalty to Julian, who he loves like an older brother. His dialogue even adds a heart symbol to his last line in his recruitment conversation. As he loves Julian and likely spends so much time with him, he is also good at reading his true thoughts. When Julian and Rickard first encounter each other, Rickard instantly deduces that his change of heart was due to falling in love with someone, embarrassing Julian. He has likely picked up shrewdness and attention to details from being a thief.
This affability extends to everyone, not just Julian. He tells Marth that he will uses his skills as a thief to return the favor for saving him after getting caught, right after telling him about how he intends to keep stealing, again showing how flippant he is. Although he knows Marth is a prince and doesn't really address him any more formally than a normal person, he is still deeply respectful to him as proven by his actions.
Biography[]
War of Shadows[]
Rickard got caught looting Aurelis Castle, not realizing it had been seized by Macedon. Luckily, instead of being killed, he gets locked in a room. When Marth and his army arrive at the castle to liberate it from Macedon, he can be saved by either Julian or Marth.
Recruited by Julian[]
Julian unlocks the door to the room upon entering and is surprised to see Rickard. Julian tells Rickard that he has abandoned thievery and has become a new man allied with justice. This claim fails to convince Rickard, who teases him about having fallen in love with someone and knowing that his motivation towards "justice" is an obvious lie. Embarrassed, Julian becomes more forceful towards Rickard, and orders him to work with him, this time on the side of good. Rickard at first seems dismayed, but then becomes obliged, telling Julian that he adores him. He asks Julian to make sure he pays him with some of his loot now that he is working for him like he asked.
Recruited by Marth[]
When he meets Marth, Rickard tells him that Julian asked his services of him, and now he is his ally. Alternatively, if Marth is the one who talks to Rickard, he will actually serve him under his own free will, as a token of his gratitude for the prince rescuing him. This dialogue is considerably shorter than his dialogue with Julian, as Rickard introduces himself and Marth only listens.
War of Heroes[]
After the previous war, Rickard returned home and went back to being a thief. The unknown location where Rickard lives experienced a surge in burglaries and purse-snatchings because of him.
During the War of Heroes, Julian encounters Rickard once more, teasing him about dumping him for beautiful cleric and sarcastically asking him if their love meant that little to him. Embarrassed about his love for Lena a second time, Julian predictably becomes forceful with him again, telling him to forget about thieving together and join him to fight for justice. Rickard continues to hit on Julian, telling him that he adores him. This time, Marth cannot be used to recruit Rickard, since he has already paid Marth's favor to him.
In the end, Rickard survives the second war and returns to thievery.
