Rin Hoshizora is one of the nine main characters in Love Live!. She is a 15 years old and a first year in Otonokizaka High School. She and Umi Sonoda and Nozomi Toujou the members of Lily White, a mini idol group under µ's.

She is voiced by Riho Iida in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Faye Mata in the English version of the anime.

Background

Rin and Hanayo Koizumi, another idol in the series, had been childhood friends. Rin herself is generally known by others for her intense love for cats and even going as far as to act like them. Her catchphrasenya~! (meow) as both a way to end her sentences or to express her happiness.

Rin was often teased for when she was younger for wearing skirts. As a result of this, she did everything she could to refrain from wearing skirts in public with the sole exception being for her uniform. It's later revealed that her insecurity when it comes to wearing a skirt was what rendered her unable to become an idol at first, in spite of her desperately wanting to be one. However, she was soon able to overcome this and join the μ's in episode 4 Hanayo and Maki Nishikino, even supporting the former in her own wishes and desires to be a school idol.

Personality

Rin has a tomboyish personality. She's a passionate athlete who's very skilled at all kinds of sports, her best known ones of which being hurdling, football and basketball. She spends much of her time teasing Hanayo Koizumi in spite of how much she genuinely does care about the latter. She's also very hard-working and stubborn, never giving up when she sets her mind on a certain goal. One notable example of this is when she, Honoka Kosaka and Nico Yazawa utilized everything they had in order for them to pass the exams required for them to be able to enter the Love Live! tournament.

She generally ends her sentences with nyan~! (Meow) and is known for making a cat-like smile constantly, as parts of her cat-like personality.
