The important word isn't 'to'. The important word is 'away'!
~ ~ Rincewind in the novel Eric
Wizzard

Rincewind is a major character in the Discworld novels. He is a main character in 6 of the 48 novels and appears in a cameo in 1 further book.

Appearance

Rincewind is relatively tall and scrawny. He is typically portrayed with relatively long hair, a beard (which, depending on the illustrator, is either long and grey or short and brown, occasionally stubbly) and several wrinkles, likely thanks to frights he has had on his misadventures. He wears the traditional wizard garb of brown boots, and red and yellow clothing, as well as a red cloak, dotted with yellow stars. He also wears a red pointy wizard's hat, which has 'WIZZARD' emblazoned on it in yellow sequins, many of which have fallen off. Thanks to his clothing getting torn to pieces on his travels, he is described by Eric Thursley (in the novel Eric) as a 'moth-eaten wizard', a comment which Rincewind privately found very hurtful.

Personality

Rincewind's defining trait is his cowardice and pessimism, something which he has had for the majority of his life. It appears that he gained his cowardice from his mother, who ran away from home before he was born. However, this could be for a myriad of reasons. Rincewind is constantly thinking about how to run away from things, thanks to his previous encounters. Even if nice things are going on around him, he knows that it will lead up to something horrible.
