Kano Sazanami, better known as Ripple, is the deuteragonist of the Magical Girl Raising Project series.
She is voiced by Manami Numakura in the Japanese version, and Sarah Wiedenheft in the English version.
Biography[]
During elementary school, Kano Sazanami was teased by her classmates because of her mother's divorce and marriage to many men. She also got into fights with other girls in middle school due to her falling in love with a boy and they were jealous of her. She solved all these problems by simply punching them.
One day, Kano decided to leave her former home and live on her own, due to her step-father's pervert actions. However, she still became stressed due to many things, such as college, and her part-time jobs. She would relieve her stress by playing the Magical Girl Raising Project game. It was until one day, Fav chose her to become a Magical Girl named Ripple. During this time, she befriended another Magical Girl named Top Speed, and soon learned many skills from her.
Weeks later after Ripple became a Magical Girl, the 15th Magical Girl was selected. This girl was Snow White, who helped many people despite this being her first time. Ripple didn't approve Snow White's naiveness, though she secretly admired the fact how she wanted to help people.
When Fav began his blood sport by requesting the decrease amount of Magical Girls, Top Speed and Ripple collected as many magical candies as they could to survive. They soon took a break and started bonding each other. Top Speed then tells Ripple that she needs to survive for at least six more months, and Ripple, despite not knowing what she means, she wished her luck.
The next night, Calamity Mary invites Ripple and Top Speed in an attempt to kill them both. Upon arriving, they notice Mary shooting innocents and multiple cars. This causes Ripple to be outraged and face against Mary, while Top Speed and the other magical girls go help the survivors. Despite her best efforts, Ripple is unable to battle Mary on her own, and is nearly killed by her until Top Speed rescues her. Using their plans and skills, Ripple and Top Speed manage to defeat Mary.
Ripple and Top Speed celebrate at their victory. However, their celebration is cut short when Swim Swim kills Top Speed. Outraged, Ripple attacks Swim Swim, but the latter retreats as she could not match Ripple's attacks. When Ripple came back for Top Speed, she found out that she was actually pregnant, and realized what she meant for having to survive for six months. Saddened and outraged at her mentor's death, Ripple swears to kill Swim Swim at all costs.
Ripple contacts Snow White at a steel tower and asks her where Swim Swim is, telling her that she will kill her. Snow White did not know where Swim Swim was, but even if she did, she would not tell her as she did not want Ripple to be a murderer. However, Ripple tells her that she has already decided to kill Swim Swim, even if it meant that she would be a murderer. She then tells Snow White she is a true Magical Girl since she is the only one who did not kill anyone, before she vanishes.
Ripple finds Swim Swim, and the two engage in a duel at a dam. Due to Swim Swim using her healing medicine to strengthen her abilities, Ripple is unable to battle her, and she even loses her left eye and left arm. However, she uses her cut-off arm to blind Swim Swim and Mary's flashbang grenade to stun her, causing her to turn back into her human form. Ripple then uses her katana to kill Ayana for good.
Although Ripple won the battle, the damage Swim Swim had done to her was slowly killing her. She then apologizes to Top Speed, begging her not to get mad at her. She also tells Snow White that she was glad she met her, and that she will be a proper magical girl from now on. She was seemingly dead, until Snow White's lucky rabbit paw revived her. Snow White arrives to kill Fav by smashing his terminal, and Fav mocks her as well as the deaths of the Magical Girls. When Ripple hears Fav making fun of Top Speed, she angrily tells him not to mock her late mentor.
Fav tries to make excuses so that Ripple will not kill him (knowing that Ripple is holding Swim Swim's spear and that it could kill him), but Snow White, hearing Fav's thoughts, tells Ripple not to listen to him since he is lying. Ripple smashes the terminal with the spear, killing Fav instantly.
In the end, Snow White and Ripple become the sole survivors of the killing game. They team up and swear to defeat any more rogue magical girls to prevent another death game happening again.
Personality[]
Due to her stressed past, Ripple initially did not like getting close with anyone. She also did not like being a Magical Girl due to her not wanting to help people (though she had love for Magical Girls). However, once she met Snow White, she started to change.
The only person she was close with before Snow White was her mentor Top Speed. She was outraged when Swim Swim killed her, and swore to get her revenge, even if it meant being a murderer.
