It will be an honor to defeat the Demon King. I swear to you that when the Demon King returns, the Rito Sage of Wind will awaken once more. And you can count on the full support of the Rito!
~ Rito Sage

The Rito Sage is a supporting character in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. He was the Sage of Wind, who once fought alongside the other sages in the past in the Imprisoning War against the Demon King Ganondorf. He was bestowed the Secret Stone by Rauru and vows to serve him and to save Hyrule from his reign of terror.

History[]

Past[]

After Sonia was assassinated by Ganondorf and the latter stealing her Secret Stone to become the Demon King, Rauru summons powerful warriors to answer the call to justice, and assembled them at the building which would eventually decay and become the Forgotten Temple. He hears that the last free Gerudo village has fallen, and Rauru directs them to a room where there are extra Secret Stones available to them. Once they gain their Secret Stones, the Sages make a vow to protect Hyrule in service to King Rauru.

The Rito Sage fights the Demon King with the other Sages as hard as they could in the Imprisoning War, but Ganondorf proved to be too powerful for them which results in Rauru taking an extreme approach by sacrificing his life to imprison Ganondorf. Sometime later, Princess Zelda visits the Rito Sage and warns him that Ganondorf's seal will eventually break, and she would need the support of the Rito's power over wind to help her support her appointed knight. The Rito Sage promises her that one of his descendants will answer his call should that time come, and he will finish what he started. The Rito Sage and the others look on after Princess Zelda becomes the Light Dragon after ingesting her Secret Stone, to restore the Master Sword and to return to her time.

Present[]

In the present age, Colgera sent a dangerous blizzard to befall Rito Village to the point where it was hurting their way of life and caused a famine to afflict its inhabitants which forces them to forge for food to survive the horrific conditions. After Link helps Tulin regain his Swallow Bow, Tulin begins hearing the Rito Sages voice calling to him and tells him to come to him. When they arrive at the Stormwind Ark which is also the Wind Temple where the blizzard is coming from, the Rito Sage instructs Tulin to activate the five wind turbines to open the lock. Once Link and Tulin activate all of them, they battle and defeat Colgera, putting an end to the blizzard. Once Tulin touches the Secret Stone that moves in front of him, he finds the Rito Sage standing before him and the Sage congratulates him for his courage, and he tells the tale of the Imprisoning War and how the Sage of Time came to meet with him to warn of Ganondorf's impending return. He tells him that the blizzard that was plaguing Rito Village was done to prevent Tulin from hearing his call to bestow him his destiny and apologizes to bring such a huge responsibility upon him as Tulin was still a young child. Regardless, Tulin accepts the Secret Stone when he realized the gravity of the situation which then attaches to his ankle.

Trivia[]

  • While the other ancient sages are confirmed to be ancestors of the original Champions of Hyrule (since those new champions are close relatives to their older counterpart), it is unknown if the Rito Sage is an ancestor of Revali since Teba and Tulin do not seem to have a direct relation with Revali.
    • The Rito Sage has white feathers on his front while his wings and have a similar slate grey color and style to Revali's wings and his sides are also slate grey.
    • Given the implication that the sages' descendants are destined to fight alongside incarnations of the wielder of the Master Sword, it's possible Revali is a descendant of the Rito Sage, and, by proxy, a distant relative of Teba and Tulin.
  • The Rito Sage's helm that he wears on his head resembles Divine Beast Vah Medoh. It's possible that this is what inspired Vah Medoh's design when it was first constructed during the age when Hyrule was becoming more technological advanced before Calamity Ganon first appeared.
