Hero Overview

Titans, go!
~ Robin's catchphrase.
As much as I hate to admit it, he and I are kind of alike. But there's one big difference between me and Slade: he doesn't have any friends.
~ Robin, about his arch-enemy Slade.
Do not watch this program! It will liquefy your brain! An escaped criminal has tampered with this transmission, and it is imperative that you turn off your television right now! I'm serious! Stop watching this show!
~ Robin

Richard "Dick" Grayson, mostly known as Robin, is one of the five titular main characters of the Cartoon Network TV series Teen Titans and its film TV finale Trouble in Tokyo, and a titular major character in the 2019 crossover film, Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans.

He is the leader and one of the five founding members of the Teen Titans. Before that, he was trained by, and served as a sidekick to Batman. He is also Beast Boy and Cyborg's best friend, Raven's close-sibling-like friend, and Starfire's main love interest (later boyfriend).

He was voiced by Scott Menville, who also voiced his reboot incarnation, Jake Armstrong, Zephyr, Ma-Ti, and Marlton Johnson.

Appearance[]

Robin is usually seen in a superhero costume that is consisted of green tights with black steel-toed boots, green gloves, a green short-sleeved shirt underneath a red armored vest with a yellow "R" over his left pectoral muscle, a yellow utility belt and a black cape that has a yellow interior.

When Robin is Nightwing in the future, he has long hair which almost touches his shoulders, he also doesn't spike his hair anymore. He also has a more muscular build and has grown much taller, his costume is a black jumpsuit with steel bracelets and a utility belt, he also still wears his steel toed boots. Nightwing's costume also has a symbol of a bird like a hawk, on his torso and it is a dark shade of blue. The bird on his costume also seems to be spreading its wings out as if it is flying.

Overview[]

Robin is the leader of the Teen Titans. Trained by Batman, he manages to keep on an even keel with a team of metahumans through his intelligence, tactical skills, martial arts prowess and, when it all boils down to basics, enough pure crazy to frighten the four of them if he really cuts loose. Robin left his position as Batman's sidekick and moved all the way to Jump City to start working solo, only to end up taking charge of the Teen Titans on his first night there and deciding, afterwards, that heading a team might not be so bad after all.

Personality[]

Robin is a natural-born leader. He is heroic, noble, kind, selfless, stoic, stubborn, brooding and usually serious in tone, but has had his number of funny moments. In DC Comics and other incarnations, Robin is even toned and playful despite some outbursts of rage; such as when he learns of his parents' killer and when he eventually stops working as Batman's sidekick (a situation that is mentioned in a roundabout way in the episode Go!). However, in this series, Robin is closer to Batman; serious, stern, strict and obsessed with hunting down criminals, which is most prominently displayed in the first season, where he goes so far as to masquerade as a villain to catch Slade. Despite this, Robin does maintain a more relaxed, at times even playful side, which he sometimes expresses when the team is not actively engaged in crime fighting.

Out of all the villains the team has faced, the one that is most hated is Slade. Robin will stop at nothing to defeat Slade. Robin insists that the two are nothing alike, despite Slade's claims to the contrary. Several encounters with him have lead dangerously close to causing rifts between Robin and his friends.

Robin is, at heart, a fairly normal teenager, enjoying hanging out and chilling as much as his comrades do. However, he's Batman's ex-sidekick, and this means he shares his mentor's fixation on discipline and hard work, which can put him at odds with his more relaxed teammates. He's also got issues of his own, namely a tendency to fixate on problems to such an extent that he stops paying attention to anything but "the mission", which has damaged his friendships on more than one occasion. Despite this, he is loyal to his team and takes threats against them seriously indeed.

Abilities[]

Although Robin, like Batman, doesn't have any real superpowers, he has peak athletic strength and endurance of a man who regularly engages in intensive physical exercise. Dick is an expert crime fighter with a range of impressive skill taught to him by Batman amongst other experts. Dick is a master martial artist mastering dozens of fighting styles, including Eskrima, Aikido, Savate, Muay Thai, Boxing, Capoeira, Kendo, Tae Kwon Do, Jeet Kune Do, Bojutsu, Hapkido, Ninjitsu, Tai Chi, Jujitsu, Judo, Kenpo, Wing Chun, Krav Maga, and Kobubudo. Dick was trained for years by Batman and then had further training from Richard Dragon. Dick is considered one of the best hand to hand fighters on earth. He has made his own style of fighting to play to his strengths.

Dick is at peak human levels in strength, endurance and stamina but his most valuable asset is his incredible speed and agility, being extremely quick and versatile.

Dick is a skilled acrobat from his childhood in the circus and is considered the best human acrobat. His acrobatic skills combined with his agility makes him very hard to hit in a fight, and he combines these skills with his fighting skills to perform moves that no other human on earth could perform. Only three people in the world can do a quadruple flip, being one of those three. He is also said to be faster than Batman and much more fluid.

Biography[]

Pre-Teen Titans Formation[]

As a child, Dick was a part of a family of circus acrobats known as The Flying Graysons. During one of their performances on the trapeze, the ropes his parents were on snapped and sent them to their deaths. Afterwards, he was taken in by Bruce Wayne, who would be known as Batman and became his crime-fighting partner for an undetermined period of time before he eventually decided go solo.

Joining Teen Titans[]

Robin met up with Beast Boy, Cyborg, and Raven when Starfire came to Earth and started destroying the city. After a brief yet fierce confrontation where even the Boy Wonder appeared to meet his match, Robin helped Starfire get free from her chains. She then kissed him to learn English. Robin and the others teamed up to find her and later fought the aliens who came to find and imprison Starfire. Shortly after defeating them, Robin gave the others communicators and later created the Teen Titans and became the leader.

Trivia[]

  • Robin is the only member of the Titans who does not have any superpowers.
  • He is right-handed.
  • His favorite colors are red, yellow and green.
    • Green is also Beast Boy's favorite color.
  • Robin has developed a rivalry between his other counterpart throughout the movie.
  • He is the most obsessive member of the team and has gotten great lengths by even disguising himself as a Villain just to gain his mortal enemy's trust and to even become more obsessive with an opponent even Kitarou.
