Biography[]
He's first seen in the woods, where Much the Miller's Son poaches a royal deer, and Sir Guy of Gisbourne -- accompanied by a group of knights -- is about to strike Much with a mace as the death penalty for royal deer poaching. But Robin Hood -- accompanied by Will Scarlett -- shoots the weapon out of his hands with his arrow right before Sir Guy could kill Much, leading Sir Guy to threaten Robin with the death penalty as well, but the latter forces Sir Guy to stand down by preparing to launch an arrow at him. Much, grateful for Robin's rescue, promises to serve Robin.
That night, Prince John holds an extravagant evening banquet at Nottingham Castle for the ruling Norman barons aiding him in his conspiracy. Sir Guy warns the others about his encounter with Sir Robin of Locksley - whom he couldn't subdue or take prisoner. Prince John's unimpressed and orders the sheriff capture Robin and hang him. Just then, Robin bursts through the gate to the great banquet hall carrying a slain deer. When asked, Robin states he felt the Saxon were being overtaxed, and informs John he wouldn't put up with the oppression much longer. Even after John claims to overtax the Saxons release the King from imprisonment by Emperor Leopold, Robin instantly sees through John's lies, and promised to kill a Norman for each Saxon life lost. John's henchmen's attack Robin Hood, but he dodges the attacks, fires arrows at the oppressors and escapes into Sherwood Forest on a waiting horse alongside Will Scarlet and Much the Miller's Son.
Robin is officially declared and branded a rebellious outlaw, with Sir Guy wanting to hang him within a week. Still committed to rebellion, Robin proceeds to recruit a band of followers from Nottinghamshire. Robin sends Much to spread the word the Robin would meet with the peasants in Sherwood, encouraging them to band together to revolt against the oppression. The men would enthusiastically rally to his call for resistance to the oppression and tyranny of the Prince, becoming his Merry Men of Sherwood by kneeling and swearing to this oath.
