It's a million years too early for you to even think of catching me!
~ Rody Soul to Izuku Midoriya in World Heroes' Mission.

Rody Soul is the deuteragonist of the movie My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission.

He was voiced by Ryo Yoshizawa and Asisa Sekine as a child in Japanese and Ryan Colt Levy and Cristina Vee as a child in English.

Appearance[]

Rody is a young man with spiky brown hair that he has tied back, along with gray eyes and light skin complexion.

He wears a red bandanna along with a pair of sunglasses on his head, as well as a pale blue button-up shirt with a number of patches and a tan-beige jacket with an orange flower sticking out from the left chest pocket. He wears a pair of thick, gray gloves and a blue and red striped tie. He also wears a pair of black pants that stop just above his ankles with patches on the knees, as well as a pair of dark brown shoes with a gray cloth wrapped around each of them.

Personality[]

Rody is a very carefree individual who always looks for an opportunity for a job to provide for his younger brother and sister. When interacting with clients or certain individuals in the way of his work, he tries to smooth talk them or over-exaggerates to get away from serious situations.

Due to his father leaving him and his siblings at a young age, and how the community shunned them for their father's involvement with Humarise, Rody is a benevolent big brother who always places his siblings' needs as his first priority. His siblings are so important to him that he will do anything to ensure their safety and well-being; even if it means considering an enemy's demands.

While Rody does not hate heroes, he does not consider them in high regards as there are not many heroes in the Shanty Town of Otheon as hero agencies cannot gain a great deal of profit from working in the slums. With the lack of heroes, the increase of crime and his past, Rody has developed a "life is unfair" point of view where he expects that people will treat others unfairly and resort to foul play to get what they want. Because of this, he's become willing to resort to theft and unlawful deeds if it means getting by and supporting his siblings.

Despite this, Rody does have a sense of chivalry and trust towards the people he gets along with. Although he was initially wary and distrustful of Izuku, even coming close to betraying him, he eventually comes to trust the young hero in training after they share their past stories and bond with one another while on the run. Furthermore, despite initially wanting nothing to do with the conflict with Humarise, he gains the resolve to help the Heroes defeat the cult after learning that they were responsible for his father's disappearance and death, even confronting their leader Flect Turn and risking his own life to help save the world.

Rody tries to keep sensitive emotions to himself, but his Quirk makes it easy for people to notice what he is really feeling. Because of this, Rody gets embarrassed by his Quirk's function and is reluctant to talk about it, not seeing it as very impressive.

Rody dreams to one day be a pilot and is invested in pursuing that dream.

Abilities[]

Rody Soul Parkour

Rody shows his acrobatic skill by evading Izuku's Blackwhip.

  • Parkour: Rody is a skilled acrobat and is resourceful with his surroundings, which, together, allows him to navigate through busy environments with great speed. These skills allowed him to evade Izuku through the streets of Otheon, even with the latter's enhanced speed and agility.
  • Charisma: Rody is a smooth liar and negotiator, able to talk his way out of most situations. Despite Pino hindering him from lying, Rody is very clever when it comes to getting out of trouble. Realizing that Izuku was not a Hero from Otheon when the latter was questioning him, he turned the facts against Izuku, warning him that he had no authority in Otheon while also threatening to report him to the police for harassment. Much later, he was even able to fool Flect Turn into letting his guard down.
  • Driving Skills: Rody knows how to operate and drive vehicles, such as a truck, without much difficulty.
  • Aviation Skills: Outside of land vehicles, Rody also knows how to operate, fly, and land a small plane.

Quirk[]

Soul: Rody's Quirk manifests as a small bird-like animal named Pino. Pino is linked to Rody's soul and her actions reflect his inner feelings, even if he tries to hide it, effectively preventing him from lying.

While not very powerful, Pino does prove to be quite useful on occasion. Rody can give her directions to act upon and she can come to his aid by distracting enemies. She can also perform certain actions for Rody while he's incapable.

Biography[]

Past[]

Rody Soul was born in the European country of Otheon. He is the son of Eddie Soul, a famous engineer, and has two little siblings, Roro and Lala Soul. His mother died shortly after his sister Lala was born, and since his father had to be absent due to his job, from a very young age Rody had to take care of Roro and Lala while his father was at work. Even so, Rody's early childhood years were happy, playing with his siblings and friends, and dreaming of one day being an airplane pilot.

As thanks, one day his father Eddie gave him a puzzle box to solve, although he had to help him a bit to do so. Upon opening the box, Rody was surprised to see that inside it contained his father's locket necklace. Eddie explains that it is a thank you gift for always taking care of his siblings.

A few years later, for some incomprehensible reason, Eddie decided to abandon his three children to join Humarise, a sect that considers Quirks a disease and was involved in several incidents. Because of this, the Soul children were banished from school, and their neighbors and acquaintances began to badmouth them, preventing their kids from playing with them. One day, they returned home to find their house heavily vandalized, with the walls painted with insults and their windows smashed in. Because of the stigma, Rody couldn't even get an honest job to support himself and his siblings.

With no choice, the Souls abandoned their home and went to live in a dilapidated caravan located in the shantytown of Otheon. This situation caused Rody to generate enormous resentment towards his father, to the point of breaking the locket he gave him. He promised his sobbing siblings that he would always be there for them no matter what.

My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission[]

After Humarise detonates its first Trigger Bomb, the World Heroes Association dispatches Pro Heroes and U.A. High Hero Course students to Humarise's targets in hopes of disarming the remaining bombs. Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki are among those sent to Humarise's supposed main headquarters in the country of Otheon. None of the Heroes find any trace of Humarise and they are put on standby. During an outing, Izuku, Katsuki, and Shoto encounter a jewel robbery in progress. Shoto and Katsuki pursue the thieves while Izuku gives chase to their courier Rody Soul, a street urchin who took the job to provide for his younger siblings.

Meanwhile, Alan Kay, a Humarise scientist, flees with an important briefcase but is attacked by a Humarise agent, Beros, and he crashes his car in the midst of Izuku and Rody's chase. Rody accidentally grabs Kay's briefcase shortly before Izuku catches him. They are soon attacked by the police, but Izuku escapes with Rody using Blackwhip. Izuku is publicly accused of mass murder by Otheon's chief of police, who is a member of Humarise, and goes off the grid per Shoto's advice. Izuku and Rody make their way to the neighboring country of Klayd, where the Otheon police will not have jurisdiction. Izuku sends a coded message about his new destination to Shoto, who heads off with Katsuki to join him there.

That night, Rody becomes homesick and secretly reports the briefcase to the police. The officers that arrive turn out to be Humarise agents, who attack him. Having been woken up by Rody's bird companion Pino, Izuku saves him, but is wounded by Beros during the fight. Rody apologizes to Izuku while patching him up, explaining how his father abandoned the family to join Humarise, and that he and his siblings were ostracized as a result. The two are attacked at the Klayd border by Beros, but are saved by Katsuki and Shoto, while Beros commits suicide in order to evade capture.

Later, Izuku discovers a hidden compartment in the briefcase containing a puzzle which Rody played with as a kid. Rody solves it and finds a USB device and a data disk inside. The disk contains a message from Kay, who reveals that he and Eddie Soul, Rody's father, were forced by Humarise to create the Trigger bombs; the device contains a kill code for the bombs created by Kay and Eddie. Humarise announces that they will detonate their remaining bombs in two hours, forcing the deployed Heroes to scramble in defense to find them and fight the Humarise soldiers. Izuku and the others head to Humarise's headquarters with the device on a plane piloted by Rody.

Izuku faces Flect Turn, whose Quirk reflects whatever comes into contact with him, with the former being overwhelmed by the latter's natural defenses, as well as his laser barrage. Rody arrives and seemingly betrays Izuku by handing over the device in exchange for his siblings' safety. Thanks to Pino, who is actually Rody's sentient Quirk which expresses his true feelings and intentions, Izuku realizes it is a feint and catches Flect Turn off guard. Realizing that Flect Turn's Quirk has a limit to how much damage it can take, Izuku uses One For All at 100%, to defeat Flect Turn with a barrage of attacks.

Meanwhile, Rody heads for the Trigger Bombs' control system, and despite being wounded by the laser defense system, he and Pino barely manage to insert the device in time, preventing the Bombs from activating. In the aftermath, Humarise's surviving members are arrested, while the Heroes are healed at the hospital. As Izuku heads back to Japan, he and Rody bid a tearful goodbye to each other. Class 1-A reunites back at U.A., while Rody gets a job at the local bar, and also pursues his dream of becoming a pilot.
