Roland (롤랑, Lollang) is one of the main protagonists, a playable character in the 2020 strategy video game Library of Ruina and the servant of Angela, following his story in the Library across the game. He used to be a Grade 9 Fixer of a one-man Office before he wandered into the Library. He is the first Librarian that the player can use, and becomes the Patron Librarian of the first Floor to be unlocked: the Floor of General Works.

Now Roland works for Angela by getting her Books through receiving Guests, who are brought to the Library by the Invitations, fighting them during the Reception stage.

Appearance[]

Roland has black short hair, pale skin, black eyes, and wears a simple black suit with a white shirt, a black tie, and black shoes.

Personality[]

Roland has a casual and relaxed personality, often clashing with Angela and the Patron Librarians. Being a person who has hit rock bottom, he has come to accept what he cannot change or control, while trying to survive and do his best in any situation, expressing this through his saying "That's that and this is this". He also believes that everyone is responsible for their own choices and that any resulting consequences are entirely their own fault - even if someone else's choice led to those consequences.

In his conversations with Angela, he is shown to have a rather deadpan and sometimes sarcastic demeanor, often teasing her about her lack of knowledge about the City, and how she does not open up to him very much. This usually makes Roland explain the various aspects of the City - the different Districts, the many Associations, Syndicates, and the other groups that operate throughout the City. He is not always knowledgeable of all its aspects, such as the Ruins.

Overall, Roland is a person who tries to make the best of his current situation, has a sense of logic and fairness, and shows some aversion when in stressful situations.

However, he goes from an orphaned child in one of the Backstreets of the hellhole that is the City to a Color/Grade 1 Fixer who was the captain of one of the most prestigious offices in the setting and responsible for the deaths of two powerful Distortions and countless numbers of Syndicate members, civilians and fellow Fixers because of an indiscriminate killing spree where no one was able to stop him. Despite it all he is still an affable, friendly person who can see the error of his ways by the end of the story.
